Exploring the role of identification and moral disengagement in the enjoyment of an antihero television series.Arthur A. Raney & Sophie H. Janicke - 2015 - Communications 40 (4):485-495.
Affective disposition theory explains well the process of enjoying hero narratives but not the appeal of narratives featuring antiheroes. Recent antihero studies suggest that character identification and moral disengagement might be important factors in the enjoyment of such fare. The current study builds on this work. A sample of 101 self-identified fans and nonfans of the television series 24 viewed a condensed version of Season 1, providing evaluation of various protagonist perceptions, moral judgments, and emotional responses to the narrative, as (...)

E-z reader 7 provides a platform for explaining how low- and high-level linguistic processes influence eye movements.Gary E. Raney - 2003 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 26 (4):498-499.
E-Z Reader 7 is a processing model of eye-movement control. One constraint imposed on the model is that high-level cognitive processes do not influence eye movements unless normal reading processes are disturbed. I suggest that this constraint is unnecessary, and that the model provides a sensible architecture for explaining how both low- and high-level processes influence eye movements.

Elite Thought and General Knowledge during the Warring States Period: Technical Arts and Their Significance in Intellectual History.Ge Zhaoguang - 2002 - Contemporary Chinese Thought 33:66-86.
The Warring States period was without doubt a time when reason thrived. The Confucians, Mohists, and Daoists, respectively, displayed three of its intellectual inclinations. One was reason with an exceptionally prominent moral flavor, and the cultivation of human character as its object. It calls on men to uphold the dignity, tranquillity, and loftiness of their inner selves. One was reason with a very strong practical flavor, and the realization of beneficent profit as its object. It leads men to address ways (...)

    Charles S. Peirce, 1839-1914: an intellectual biography.Gérard Deledalle - 1990 - Philadelphia: J.Benjamins Pub. Co..
This work is the intellectual biography of the greatest of American philosophers. Peirce was not only a pioneer in logic and the creator of a philosophical movement pragmatism he also proposed a phenomenological theory, quite different from that of Husserl, but equal in profundity; and long before Saussure, and in a totally different spirit, a semiotic theory whose present interest owes nothing to passing fashion and everything to its fecundity. Throughout his life Peirce wrote continually about sign and phenomenon (or (...)

    Multiple-channel video installation as a precursor to transmedia-based art.Ge Wu, Phillip Gough & Caitilin De Berigny Wall - 2012 - Technoetic Arts 10 (2-3):329-339.
The use of cross-media and transmedia-based art installation has generated new ways for the audience to appreciate, understand and experience art. Transmedia, the integration of multiple media forms to augment a single narrative, has not only been largely used in commercial films, but has also been used by artists to communicate their message more effectively. In this article, we explore some remarkable multi-channel video installations and transmedia artworks to highlight how this technology has shaped new uses of technology as a (...)

The Continuation and Rejuvenation of the Intellectual Tradition (III): The Daoists (Dao).Ge Zhaoguang - 2002 - Contemporary Chinese Thought 33:42-65.
The Daoists were different from the Confucians and Mohists. If we say that the latter already were "famous schools" at the beginning of the Warring States period , then the Daoists of that time may not have been a school with clear lines of transmission. Even their thought may not have been that consistent or clearly delineated. The reason for this is probably because the Confucians, with their teacher-student relationships formed through education, and the Mohists, with their superior-inferior relationships formed (...)
