A Systematic Review of Fear of Cancer Recurrence Among Indigenous and Minority Peoples.Kate Anderson, Allan ‘Ben' Smith, Abbey Diaz, Joanne Shaw, Phyllis Butow, Louise Sharpe, Afaf Girgis, Sophie Lebel, Haryana Dhillon, Linda Burhansstipanov, Boden Tighe & Gail Garvey - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
While cancer survivors commonly experience fear and anxiety, a substantial minority experience an enduring and debilitating fear that their cancer will return; a condition commonly referred to as fear of cancer recurrence. Despite recent advances in this area, little is known about FCR among people from Indigenous or other ethnic and racial minority populations. Given the high prevalence and poor outcomes of cancer among people from these populations, a robust understanding of FCR among people from these groups is critical. The (...)

The value of values-based supply chains: farmer perspective.Gwenael Engelskirchen, Christy Anderson Brekken, Keiko Tanaka, Marcia Ostrom, Gail Feenstra & Hikaru Hanawa Peterson - 2021 - Agriculture and Human Values 39 (1):385-403.
In the last few decades, the emergence of mid-scale, intermediated marketing channels that fall between commodity and direct markets has attracted growing interest from scholars for their potential to preserve small and mid-sized farms while scaling up alternative agrifood sourcing. When such mid-scale supply chains are formed among multiple business partners with shared ethics or values related to the qualities of the food and the business relationships along the supply chain, they may be termed “values-based supply chains (VBSCs).” Most of (...)

The field of bioethics has evolved over the past half-century, incorporating new domains of inquiry that signal developments in health research, clinical practice, public health in its broadest sense and more recently sensitivity to the interdependence of global health and the environment. These extensions of the reach of bioethics are a welcome response to the growth of global health as a field of vital interest and activity. This paper provides a critical interpretive review of how the term “global health ethics” (...)

The Poverty of Conceptual Truth: Kant's Analytic/Synthetic Distinction and the Limits of Metaphysics.Robert Lanier Anderson - 2015 - Oxford, England: Oxford University Press.
    R. Lanier Anderson presents a new account of Kant's distinction between analytic and synthetic judgments, and provides it with a clear basis within traditional logic. He reconstructs compelling claims about the syntheticity of elementary mathematics, and re-animates Kant's arguments against traditional metaphysics in the Critique of Pure Reason.

Machiavellianism, Moral Orientation, Social Desirability Response Bias, and Anti-intellectualism: A Profile of Canadian Accountants.Anis Triki, Gail Lynn Cook & Darlene Bay - 2017 - Journal of Business Ethics 144 (3):623-635.
Prior research has demonstrated that accountants differ from the general population on many personality traits. Understanding accountants’ personality traits is important when these characteristics may impact professional behavior or ability to work with members of the business community. Our study investigates the relationship between Machiavellianism, ethical orientation, anti-intellectualism, and social desirability response bias in Canadian accountants. We find that Canadian accountants score much higher on the Machiavellianism scale than U.S. accountants. Additionally, our results show a significant relationship between Machiavellianism and (...)

To provide effective care physicians must attend, not just to medical issues, but also to the social determinants of health — racial factors, food insecurity, housing instability, transportation barriers and beyond. Social determinants also include a largely underrecognized dimension: legal vulnerabilities such as rental evictions and debt adjudications. Yet rarely do medical trainees have an opportunity to witness legal vulnerabilities, firsthand.

Predatory Priests, Silenced Victims: The Sexual Abuse Crisis and the Catholic Church.Mary Gail Frawley-O'Dea & Virginia Goldner (eds.) - 2007 - Routledge.
The sexual abuse scandal in the Catholic Church captured headlines and mobilized public outrage in January 2002. But much of the commentary that immediately followed was reductionistic, focusing on single "causes" of clerical abuse such as mandatory celibacy, homosexuality, sexual repressiveness or sexual permissiveness, anti-Catholicism, and a decadent secular culture. _Predatory Priests, Silenced Victims: The Sexual Abuse Crisis and the Catholic Church_, a collection of groundbreaking articles edited by Mary Gail Frawley-O'Dea and Virginia Goldner, eschews such one-size-fits-all theorizing. In (...)

The Social Construct of Writing and Thinking: Evidence of How the Expansion of Writing Technology Affects Consciousness.Sandra C. Williamson & Gail S. Corso - 1999 - Bulletin of Science, Technology and Society 19 (1):32-45.
The technology for the digitized text creates fluid meaning, representing its culture in transition from the dominance of the single-authored text with its hierarchically ordered system. This new architecture for the digitized word has been making explicit the shift from human consciousness reflecting the interiority of the self to a human consciousness reflecting self in relation to others. Educators using the technology of networked writing environments need to understand how the technology functions and intervenes for pedagogical processes during models of (...)

The epistemic reach of aisthēsis in Theaetetus 184-6.Anderson de Paula Borges - 2024 - Philósophos - Revista de Filosofia 29 (1).
This paper explores the scope of the theses presented in _Theaetetus_ 184-6 concerning the epistemic capacity of _aisthēsis_. I develop two main arguments in this analysis. First, I situate the passage within the broader context of 151-183 and propose that the argument in 184-6 stands independently of the analysis of the Protagorean theses conducted in 151-183. Then, I analyze the traditional reading of 184-6, which holds that _aisthēsis_ lacks cognition, and contrast this perspective with that of those who argue that (...)

Peace Philosophy and Public Life: Commitments, Crises, and Concepts for Engaged Thinking.Gail Presbey Greg Moses (ed.) - 2014 - New York, NY: Rodopi.
This book argues that peace must be a public thing. Philosophers of peace have long worked for public results. Opposing nuclear weapons, organizing the disinherited, challenging violence in the status quo, such are the legacies of engaged philosophers. Our authors remember these examples as we confront modern challenges such as immigration, police interrogation, or mental health.

    Definição Em Sócrates e a Crítica de Geach.Anderson Borges - 2019 - Dissertatio 48:3-25.
