  3. The Deliberative Duty and Other Individual Antidiscrimination Duties in the Dating Sphere.Simone Sommer Degn - 2024 - Moral Philosophy and Politics 11 (2):297-317.
What does morality require of individuals in their dating and sex life? In this article I challenge recent outlines of antidiscrimination duties in the dating sphere and present a plausible alternative: the deliberative duty. This duty avoids the risks and limitations of earlier outlines: it is time-sensitive regarding the malleability of intimate preferences, it avoids being too demanding on the duty-bearer and minimizes the risk of generating mere dutiful attraction behavior towards right-holders. In addition, it is better suited for universal (...)

  4. A model-theoretic approach to ordinal analysis.Jeremy Avigad & Richard Sommer - 1997 - Bulletin of Symbolic Logic 3 (1):17-52.
We describe a model-theoretic approach to ordinal analysis via the finite combinatorial notion of an α-large set of natural numbers. In contrast to syntactic approaches that use cut elimination, this approach involves constructing finite sets of numbers with combinatorial properties that, in nonstandard instances, give rise to models of the theory being analyzed. This method is applied to obtain ordinal analyses of a number of interesting subsystems of first- and second-order arithmetic.

    Soft Subversions: Texts and Interviews 1977--1985.Félix Guattari & Charles J. Stivale - 2009 - Semiotext(E).
A new, expanded, and reorganized edition of a collection of texts that present a fuller scope to Guattari's thinking from 1977 to 1985. This new edition of Soft Subversions expands, reorganizes, and develops the original 1996 publication, offering a carefully organized arrangement of essays, interviews, and short texts that present a fuller scope to Guattari's thinking from 1977 to 1985. This period encompasses what Guattari himself called the “Winter Years” of the early 1980s—the ascent of the Right, the spread of (...)

The model-theoretic ordinal analysis of theories of predicative strength.Jeremy Avigad & Richard Sommer - 1999 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 64 (1):327-349.
We use model-theoretic methods described in [3] to obtain ordinal analyses of a number of theories of first- and second-order arithmetic, whose proof-theoretic ordinals are less than or equal to Γ0.

Nietzsche Und der Französische Existenzialismus.Alfred Betschart, Andreas Urs Sommer & Paul Stephan (eds.) - 2022 - Boston: De Gruyter.

Can minorities discriminate against majorities? An analysis of academic and ordinary usage.Simone Sommer Degn - forthcoming - Philosophical Psychology.
Can a minority agent, Jamal, discriminate against a majority agent, Dave, conceptually speaking? Taking an experimental-philosophical approach, this article addresses the conceptual puzzle by investigating both the ordinary usage of discrimination and whether the academic literature reflects the folk concept. First, it provides a conceptual analysis of discrimination as it is used across the discrimination research field. The analysis produces two novel definitions of discrimination: a symmetric conception, which implies multi-directionality, and an asymmetric conception, which implies uni-directionality. Then, I empirically (...)

    Diálogo con Greg Biesta: Filosofía Y educación.Félix García Moriyón - 2017 - Childhood and Philosophy 13 (28).
Biesta approaches different important educational topics that deserve some clarification and exploration. To begin with, Biesta emphasizes the preferential position that subjectification should occupy in education, a thesis I agree with. Nevertheless, qualification and socialization are also fundamental domains in education, much more in formal education. The aim of education, therefore, is to achieve an adequate balance between the three domains that makes possible a full educational process. On the other hand, it is valuable proposal to recover the importance of (...)

Values: Why We Need Them Although They Don’t Exist.Andreas Urs Sommer - 2023 - Springer Verlag.
In his book, Andreas Urs Sommer reflects on the question of what it really means when everybody’s appealing to values, all the time – the question, fundamentally, of what values actually are. Values explores both of these points, arriving at two intriguing suggestions: Maybe what we call values are just a set of elaborate fictions. And maybe those fictions serve some very important purposes.

    Kultur und Möglichkeiten.Andreas Urs Sommer - 2023 - Zeitschrift für Kulturphilosophie 2023 (1):104-112.
Cultural philosophy must always fathom anew what it means to live in a reflexive, self-reflexive culture of relativisation - in a culture that not only allows but forces the most diverse points of view. A culture in which nothing and no one secures the ultimate truth, the ultimate objectivity. Modern culture is a great possibility-generating enterprise. Cultural philosophy can conceptually express and bring to light the cultural potential for self-relativisation, the potential for self-reflection.

The article deals with the question of the extent to which Friedrich Nietzsche tried out various roles of being an outsider as well as the extent to which he also wanted to be an insider again and again. Special emphasis is placed on the problem of »historical philosophizing«, to which Nietzsche committed himself in 1878.
