  1. The emotions behind character friendship: From other-oriented emotions to the ‘bonding feeling’.Consuelo Martínez-Priego & Ana Romero-Iribas - 2021 - Journal for the Theory of Social Behaviour 51 (3):468-488.
This article aims to theoretically analyse so-called character friendship from the perspective of emotions. From this angle, our research enables us to distinguish different types of emotions, and we propose a conceptual model of the hierarchy of the emotions of character friendship and their influence on social behaviour. With this model in hand, the article discusses whether other-oriented emotions fully explain the emotional underpinnings of character friendship. We find other-oriented emotions to be ambiguous because they may or may not be (...)

  2. Where and How Do Phronesis and Emotions Connect?Consuelo Martínez-Priego & Ana Romero-Iribas - 2024 - Topoi (Special Issue: Virtues, wisdom a).
We aim to map out the points of confluence between phronesis and emotion, as well as the nature of this confluence. We do so based on philosophical and psychological explanations of emotions and phronesis. Making sound decisions, which requires phronesis, is an important matter, but its relationship with emotions has only just begun to be studied. We propose that the interplay between phronesis and emotion is possible (rather than inevitable) because both have a cognitive-behavioural structure and because emotions are hierarchical. (...)

  3. Topography of interpersonal relationships in Postmodernity: friendship and education.Ana Romero-Iribas & Consuelo Martínez-Priego - 2017 - Revista Española de Pedagogia 75 (267):309-322.
This article considers friendship as a channel for education and as one of its objectives, as it is a necessary ingredient for a fulfilled life. This requires an initial study of interpersonal relationships in the postmodern context, considering their opportunities and risks. Our aim is to draw a topography of these relationships by analysing texts by major thinkers of the last four decades. The result of this analysis is the core of the article, namely, that there are four categories which (...)

Civic friendship: a way of social strengthening in the face of the emotional isolation of the postmodernity of COVID-19, in Friendship studies: Politics and Practices.A. Romero-Iribas & Consuelo Martínez-Priego - 2024 - In Graham M. Smith, Heather Devere & John Von Hyking, Friendship studies: Politics and Practices. Ibidem-Verlag, Columbia University Press.
The chapter by Ana Romero-Iribas and Consuelo Martínez-Priego is both unique and timely insofar as it approaches the concern with atomisation and social connection from the perspective of a recent event: the Covid-19 pandemic. This has had a fragmenting consequence for both individuals and institutions, leading to loneliness and isolation. The chapter considers civic friendship to be a remedy to this. Civic friendship involves other-orientated emotions. It is a concern for both self and others, and aims at collective goods. However, (...)

Freedom and Psychoanalysis: Proposals and Limitations.Consuelo Martinez-Priego - 2018 - In Konstantinos Boudouris, Proceedings XXIII world Congress Philosophy. Charlottesville: Philosophy Documentation Center. pp. 33-37.
It is patently clear that theoretical difficulties in the understanding of human freedom exist, the roots of which can be found in classic psychological proposals. The western crisis may require reconsideration of freedom and responsibility as expressed in each person. One such proposal of this type begs clarification of the approaches that led to the loss of freedom in the existential horizon and thus of social dynamics. The purpose of this paper is to explain its roots in the psychoanalytic context. (...)
