Anxiety, depression, and the suicidal spectrum: a latent class analysis of overlapping and distinctive features.Matthew C. Podlogar, Megan L. Rogers, Ian H. Stanley, Melanie A. Hom, Bruno Chiurliza & Thomas E. Joiner - 2017 - Cognition and Emotion 32 (7):1464-1477.
ABSTRACTAnxiety and depression diagnoses are associated with suicidal thoughts and behaviours. However, a categorical understanding of these associations limits insight into identifying dimensional mechanisms of suicide risk. This study investigated anxious and depressive features through a lens of suicide risk, independent of diagnosis. Latent class analysis of 97 depression, anxiety, and suicidality-related items among 616 psychiatric outpatients indicated a 3-class solution, specifically: a higher suicide-risk class uniquely differentiated from both other classes by high reported levels of depression and anxious arousal; (...)

    Positive Jonsson Theories.Bruno Poizat & Aibat Yeshkeyev - 2018 - Logica Universalis 12 (1-2):101-127.
This paper is a general introduction to Positive Logic, where only what we call h-inductive sentences are under consideration, allowing the extension to homomorphisms of model-theoric notions which are classically associated to embeddings; in particular, the existentially closed models, that were primitively defined by Abraham Robinson, become here positively closed models. It accounts for recent results in this domain, and is oriented towards the positivisation of Jonsson theories.

Mind Ascribed. An elaboration and defence of interpretivism.Bruno Mölder - 2010 - John Benjamins.
This book provides a thoroughly worked out and systematic presentation of an interpretivist position in the philosophy of mind, of the view that having mental properties is a matter of interpretation. Bruno Mölder elaborates and defends a particular version of interpretivism, the ascription theory, which explicates the possession of mental states with contents in terms of their canonical ascribability, and shows how it can withstand various philosophical challenges. Apart from a defence of the ascription theory from the objections commonly (...)

The Dividual: Digital Practices and Biotechnologies.Fernanda Bruno & Pablo Manolo Rodríguez - 2022 - Theory, Culture and Society 39 (3):27-50.
This article revisits the concept of the dividual, taking as a starting point Deleuze’s diagnosis about the relevance that dividual practices have gained with the advent of biotechnology and digital culture. Although we agree with this diagnosis, we highlight the intersections between the dividual and the individual both in Modernity and in the present time. The contemporary dividual is in tension with the modern individual, but not as a substitution, division or duplication of the individual. Rather, we state a complex (...)

    Agustín de Hipona y el deseo mimético.Bruno Alfonzo - 2022 - Patristica Et Medievalia 43 (2).

    Rorty’s idea of epistemological behaviorism: a holism without metaphysical supports.Bruno Araujo Alencar & Heraldo Aparecido Silva - 2024 - Griot 24 (3):57-66.
The present essay analyzes the understanding of epistemological behaviorism as a holism without metaphysical presuppositions, from Richard Rorty (1931-2007). In order to do so, we will start from the idea of Wilfrid Sellars’ “Myth of the Given”, as a philosophical impulse that Rorty appropriates to develop his notion that epistemological behaviorism would be, at best, a holism to create justification contexts. Initially, we will propose a discussion on the question of psychological nominalism, presented in Margutti's text, Skepticism, pragmatism and Sellars' (...)

    John Dewey e a ética da experimentação animal.Bruno Araújo Alencar & Heraldo Aparecido Silva - 2022 - Cognitio 23 (1):58364-58364.
No primeiro momento, será exposto o conceito (...)

Exemplarist Virtue Theory and the Kant Complaint.Bruno Niederbacher - 2020 - Revista Portuguesa de Filosofia 76 (1):75-92.
Recently, Linda Zagzebski has proposed an “exemplarist virtue theory.” Her idea is to define moral terms such as “right act”, “duty”, “good end”, “good motive”, “virtue” etc. by referring directly to exemplars we admire upon reflection such as Confucius, Jesus Christ, St. Francis, St. Elisabeth etc. In this article, I will first present the main theses of Zagzebski’s theory and relate them to the program of virtue ethics. Secondly, I will confront her theory with what I call “the Kant Complaint” (...)

    A viable alternative to Null-hypothesis testing.Bruno D. Zumbo - 1998 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 21 (2):227-228.
This commentary advocates an alternative to null-hypothesis testing that was originally represented by Rozeboom over three decades ago yet is not considered by Chow (1996). The central distinguishing feature of this approach is that it allows the scientist to conclude that the data are much better fit by those hypotheses whose values fall inside the interval than by those outside.

    Thinking Tool for Evolutionary Creation.Bruno Petrušić - 2023 - Scientia et Fides 11 (1):29-44.
Theological thinking is hard. It takes various forms depending on its object of reflection, and needs to be doctrinally informed, contextually appropriate and methodologically consistent. Theological thinking about evolutionary creation meets all said conditions and restrictions on some sort of a larger-than-usual scale. I, thus, introduce a thinking tool – intuition pump, as Daniel Dennett calls it – that can help us theologically contemplate evolutionary creation. This approach aims to put together and to combine evolution and creation within the context (...)

Is it possible to have a materialist definition of the subject which nonetheless separates the latter from any given type of object? In this article I start from the criticism – which both Alain Badiou and Gilles Deleuze provide – of the identification of the subject with a given type of substance, provided with specific modes of correlation with other objects. Namely, I try to show how for both authors the identification of the subject with a res – be it (...)

Mind and Folk Psychology (Studia Philosophica Estonica, Vol. 9.1).Bruno Mölder (ed.) - 2016
Folk psychology is often seen as a conceptual framework for our understanding of the mind. If so, then what does it tell us about the concept of mind? Does folk psychological vocabulary play a fundamental role in mindreading? Are folk psychological explanations autonomous? This issue is dedicated to these and other topics associated with folk psychology, mindreading and the mind, such as self-knowledge, pre-linguistic understanding of others, normativity, infant and chimpanzee mindreading, pain and emotions.
