IntroductionTranscranial magnetic stimulation is a consolidated procedure for the treatment of depression, with several meta-analyses demonstrating its efficacy. Theta-burst stimulation is a modification of TMS with similar efficacy and shorter session duration. The geriatric population has many comorbidities and a high prevalence of depression, but few clinical trials are conducted specifically for this age group. TBS could be an option in this population, offering the advantages of few side effects and no pharmacological interactions. The aim of this paper is to investigate a crucial period in the development of the young Hegel. Watching the decline and fall of the Holy German-Roman Empire and the Napoleonic Wars, Hegel laid a first theoretical foundation of the modern State through an allegorical interpretation of Orestes' myth as a sort of study-case of the "tragedy in the ethical life". Hegel atempts in this way to overcome the decomposition of the old classical ideals, which takes place at the time (...) of the emerging egoism of the bourgeois capitalism. The proposed solution by Hegel in 1803 is the last attempt to build a new religion on the basis of the reconciliation of the People with their own destiny. (shrink)

For him to brandish at his father's murderers is natural there, where he is delivering a sort of general manifesto as to his aims, and where the strong word is justified and alleviated by the jingle with juxtaposed . But there is no reason for Orestes to go on insisting on the bloodthirstiness of these aims, and reads oddly in 100, where he is explaining soberly his plan of campaign.

RESUMO: A peça de teatro As moscas, de Sartre, será abordada com o intuito de acompanhar o modo como seu autor reinventa o mito de Orestes, presente na tragédia grega. Sartre subscreve pontos de partida que nos fazem perceber que, em seu diálogo com a tradição, ele trabalha com a liberdade no avesso da necessidade, o que termina invertendo a tradição. Ele adota certa concepção da relação entre o passado e o mundo atual que nos permite ler o mito de (...) Orestes de tal forma que ele não exclui o passado, antes, o exige. Orestes não se faz do nada, sua ação não se estabelece através de uma simples continuidade com o passado. Trata-se de investigar a importância que o passado desempenha no interior dessa peça, assim como indicar, a partir desse ponto de vista, o lugar que nossas aquisições devem ocupar no mundo atual. ABSTRACT: The aim of the present article is to shed some light on how Sartre recreates Orestes myth in his play The flies. Sartre show us that his dialogue with the tradition works with freedom as the other side of necessity, which leads to the inversion of tradition. He works with such a conception of the relation between past and present which enable us to consider Orestes in a way that the past is not excluded; on the contrary, it is demanded. Orestes is not out of nowhere, and at the same time his actions are not simply the continuation of the past. The present article intends to analyze the role played by the past in Sartre’s The flies, as well as to point, from this particular standpoint, the place off human acquisitions should have in our present world. Iphigenia Aulidensis was produced after the poet's death, probably in 405 BC. The aim of this paper is to recover the text of this production, which I call FP for First Performance. Probably Euripides left behind an incomplete draft, which was finished by Euripides Minor, the poet's son or nephew. The text we have contains, as Page showed in 1934, material added for a fourth-century revival and other still later interpolations. Diggle's edition tries to separate original Euripides from all later (...) hands on the basis of style. But if we want to recover the amalgam that was FP we need to be attentive to the plot that is implied by the most clearly genuine portions: we can't confine ourselves to what appears to be Euripidean since more than one hand contributed to FP. A discovery about the plot gives us some objective basis for reconstructing FP. Our transmitted text contains two different conceptions of Calchas' prophecy, only one of which belonged to FP. Several passages scattered throughout the play imply that it was public, made to the entire army, but other passages say that it was private, restricted to Agamemnon's inner circle, with the army left in the dark. The secret prophecy motif, I argue, is the work of a fourth century producer, whom I call the Reviser. Its purpose was to introduce into the play scenes where Greek soldiers, ignorant of the real reason for Iphigenia's coming to Aulis, might make naive comments or ask questions that are highly ironic in view of the actual situation, this being an emotional effect he found congenial. We find two such passages in places that are under grave suspicion: the entrance of Clytaemestra, where there is a chorus of Argives who felicitate Iphigenia on her wonderful prospects, and the first messenger, who reports naive questions from the soldiery. Both these passages have linguistic and dramaturgical features that make it virtually certain that neither Euripides nor Euripides Minor wrote them. Working from these we can detect the Reviser's hand at other places in the play and reconstruct its original lineaments. One satisfying result is that the business of baby Orestes, played by a doll, can be shown to be the work of the Reviser. The play ended with Iphigenia's departure for the altar, and there was no substitution of a stag. Like Menoeceus, Macaria and their kin, Iphigenia pays for the victory of her country with her blood, and there is no happy ending. (shrink)

With admirably clear prose, Loney traces out the recurring pattern of tisis narratives woven through the poem. The accumulation of these revenge stories demonstrates that, in Loney's words, "tisis breeds endless further plots, making an epic of revenge fatally open-ended" (225, emphasis mine). Although the focus is simple, Loney's comprehensive account of the workings of revenge narratives commands the reader's interest. I, for one, was unprepared to recognize how systematically the poet sets up its readers to be disturbed by the ending—although I have long found the final books of the Odyssey troubling. On Loney's reading, the Odyssey sets up the terms of revenge's justice such that, on those very terms, the execution of vengeance is always ambivalent. For anyone with interests in Homer or revenge narratives, Loney's book has much to offer.The Ethics of Revenge begins with archaic conceptions of vengeance (tisis) (chap. 1). Loney distinguishes between "positive" reciprocity, which aims at balance through the ostensibly free exchange of benefits; and "negative" reciprocity, which is blatantly transactional: tisis is a form of negative reciprocity, where harm is met with immediate and (supposedly) equivalent harm. But as Loney shows, the returning harm is equivalent to the initial harm only insofar as someone judges it to be so. This insight is essential to understanding the inconclusive quality of vengeance: one person's retributive act is, potentially, another person's harm received. The justice achieved by such retributions is limited to the perspective of the one judging.Loney turns to such overlapping stories of tisis in the Odyssey in chapter 2. These overlaps prime the audience to notice ethical complexities among different characters' claims about wrongdoings and merited punishments. For Loney, Zeus' story of Orestes in Book 1 is the paradigmatic tisis narrative of the Odyssey. Two different kinds of stochastic processes in Hilbert space used to introduce spontaneous localization into the quantum evolution are investigated. In the processes of the first type, finite changes of the wave function take place instantaneously with a given mean frequency. The processes of the second type are continuous. It is shown that under a suitable infinite frequency limit the discontinuous process transforms itself into the continuous one.

From explicit pronouncements in the writings of Aquinas, this artide elaborates on how the apprehension of the act of being is accomplished in the human intellect trough its natural habit, the intellectus principiorum. The basic conclusión states that direct reception of truth is implied in the apprehension of the actuality of extramental things.

Some have concluded that the only appropriate response to the problem of temporary intrinsics is the view that familiar, concrete objects persist through time by perduring, that is, by having temporal parts. Many, including myself, believe this view of persistence is false, and so reject this conclusion. However, the most common attempts to resolve the problem and yet defend the view that familiar, concrete objects endure are self-defeating. This has heretofore gone unnoticed. I consider the most familiar such attempts, based (...) on a strategy called tensing the copula , and present a general argument to demonstrate why this strategy – and any strategy based on relativization – fails. I then show how the considerations raised in this general argument undermine other attempts to resolve the problem while denying perdurance. All these attempts are undermined by an assumption essential to the problem of temporary intrinsics, to wit, that there are many moments of time and all have the same ontological status. As long as this assumption is maintained, the only solution to the problem is that familiar, concrete objects perdure. Thus, in order to defend the view that objects persist through time by enduring, one must adopt a different metaphysics of time (viz., presentism). I conclude that it is neither unreasonable nor impracticable to do so. (shrink)

The objective is to fill a gap in research (...) at the intersection of ethics, spirituality, and economics, demonstrating that an approach grounded in _human dignity_ and the _common good_ can be successful even in a profit-oriented context. This vision proved to have a significant impact during critical moments, such as the San Francisco earthquake and the Great Depression, showing Giannini’s deep _trust_ in human resilience and dignity. Furthermore, the _faithful banker_ supported emerging industries like film and wine and invested in infrastructure projects like the Golden Gate, contributing to California’s economic and social development. Through the analysis of historical sources and testimonies, it is highlighted that the humanistic model of the “_gentle giant_” not only promoted financial inclusion and democratization, inspired by the Monti di Pietà, and access to credit for working-class people and immigrants but also fostered a visionary role for the bank as a _trusted partner_ in social progress. This approach demonstrated that finance could be a tool for _community wealth_, uniting economic growth with human development. The legacy of this _humble banker_ confirms that corporate prosperity is not at odds with social justice and sustainable development.
