On the Economy of Specialization and Division of Labour in Plato’s Republic.Anna Greco - 2009 - Polis 26 (1):52-72.
This essay takes issue with a common interpretation of Book II of Plato’s Republic as anticipating the modern theory of division of labour, first promoted by Adam Smith. It is argued that, far from anticipating Adam Smith, Plato developed original reflections which, though naturally shaped by the economic reality of his time, reveal a concern for fundamental issues of economic thought: the value of labour, the nature of economic interdependence in a political association, the relation between economic behaviour and justice. Propositional attitudes towards presuppositions.Filippo Domaneschi, Elena Carrea, Alberto Greco & Carlo Penco - 2014 - Pragmatics and Cognition 22 (3):291-308.
According to the Common Ground account proposed by Stalnaker, speakers involved in a verbal interaction have different propositional attitudes towards presuppositions. In this paper we propose an experimental study aimed at estimating the psychological plausibility of the Stalnakerian model. In particular, the goal of our experiment is to evaluate variations in accepting as appropriate a sentence that triggers a presupposition, where different attitudes are taken towards the presupposition required. The study conducted suggests that if a speaker has the attitude of (...)

European and Italian regulations for food safety, the deliberate release into the environment of GMOs and the procedures for their labelling and traceability.Arianna Greco & Rosella Ciliberti - 2003 - Global Bioethics 16 (1):17-26.
Is it necessary to contrast the spreading process of genetic engineering in the agri-food stuff sector? Can EU rules really consider the impact of this brand new technologies on biology and, consequently, on public health? Despite the general trend, a firm opposition is what is happening in some Regions of Italy, where GMOs production and placing on the market are foibidden.

    'Having one's own' and distributive justice in Plato's Republic.Anna Greco - 2011 - History of Political Thought 32 (2):185-214.
Although Plato did not explicitly propose any principle of distributive justice, he indicated that justice involves both the doing and the having of one's own. On the interpretation I am proposing: (i) 'having one's own' refers directly to the compensation one receives for doing one's own; (ii) the principle of distribution of benefits that is actually operative in Plato's system is that any form of compensation must be such that the worker (whether ruler, soldier or producer) has his needs satisfied. Legal Regulations, Research and Human Subjects.Arianna Greco & Amedeo Santosuosso - 2004 - Global Bioethics 17 (1):131-136.
The new scientific acquisitions are numerous and even more are their future promises. The debate on bio-technologies involves the fundamental rights of the individual and the advancements in research must merge with the supremacy of the human being on the interests both of the ‘science’ and of society at large. In the attempt to combine ‘democracy’ with techno-scientific issues, Law has turned from pure technical rules (meant to reflect, without any critique, some knowledge) into a tool meant to fill cognitive (...)

Spatial and Motor Aspects in the “Action-Sentence Compatibility Effect”.Alberto Greco - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
The Action-sentence Compatibility Effect is often taken as supporting the fundamental role of the motor system in understanding sentences that describe actions. This effect would be related to an internal “simulation,” i.e., the reactivation of past perceptual and motor experiences. However, it is not easy to establish whether this simulation predominantly involves spatial imagery or motor anticipation. In the classical ACE experiments, where a real motor response is required, the direction and motor representations are mixed. In order to disentangle spatial (...)

Self-Efficacy Beliefs of University Students: Examining Factor Validity and Measurement Invariance of the New Academic Self-Efficacy Scale.Andrea Greco, Chiara Annovazzi, Nicola Palena, Elisabetta Camussi, Germano Rossi & Patrizia Steca - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
Academic self-efficacy beliefs influence students’ academic and career choices, as well as motivational factors and learning strategies promoting effective academic success. Nevertheless, few studies have focused on the academic self-efficacy of university students in comparison to students at other levels. Furthermore, extant measures present several limitations. The first aim of this study was to develop a reliable and valid scale assessing university students’ self-efficacy beliefs in managing academic tasks. The second aim was to investigate differences in academic self-efficacy due to (...)

Profiling the Interrogee: Applying the Person-Centered Approach in Investigative Interviewing Research.Nicola Palena, Letizia Caso, Lucrezia Cavagnis & Andrea Greco - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
In the past, deception detection research has explored whether there were specific personal characteristics that were related to lying and found that factors such as personality and morality are indeed related to lying. However, past research has usually focused on a variable-centered approach. Yet, a person-centered might be more suitable here as it allows for the study of people in an integrative manner. In this experiment, 673 students completed a questionnaire which included measures of the five factors of personality, the (...)
