Abstract

This chapter uses NSSO data for the years 2004–2005 and 2011–2012, and examines the economic status of Muslims vis-à-vis other socio-religious groups. It is found that the economic growth experienced by Muslim groups in urban areas is different from that in rural areas. The gap between the state average consumption expenditure and those by Muslims in the state is decreasing but continues to be large. The share of Muslims in the poorest 20 per cent in Telangana is increasing, indicating high risk of poverty and economic vulnerability among Muslims in the state.
