The Cambridge History of Early Christian Literature.Frances Young, Lewis Ayres & Andrew Louth (eds.) - 2004 - Cambridge University Press.
The writings of the Church Fathers form a distinct body of literature that shaped the early church and built upon the doctrinal foundations of Christianity established within the New Testament. Christian literature in the period c.100–c.400 constitutes one of the most influential textual oeuvres of any religion. Written mainly in Greek, Latin and Syriac, Patristic literature emanated from all parts of the early Christian world and helped to extend its boundaries. The History offers a systematic account of that literature and (...)

Being Human: Between Animals and Technology.Ron Broglio & Frederick Young (eds.) - 2014 - Routledge.
Technology and animals often serve as the boundaries by which we define the human. In this issue contributors explore these categories as necessary supplements or as porous membranes which disturb the scaffolding of how the human is constructed. A lingering question throughout is whether we have ever been human or if such a category is a non-localizable ideal or perhaps a misnomer. In this collection of essays, internationally known theorists muddle the categorical boundaries such that animals and technologies become necessary (...)

    Listening to Animalities, Materialities and Shipwrecks.Linus Lancaster & Frederick Young - 2012 - Technoetic Arts 9 (2-3):143-151.
In these collaborative, theoretical and performative pieces our aim is towards radical expansions of various formal parameters in western philosophy through art praxis that de-centres the roles played by the animal subject, industrial technologies, and soil in modernist paradigms. Exceeding these conventions demands pushing against/past blockages (aporias) to broader engagement with whatever refigured subjectivities are called into constellative gathering in the process. The immanent multiplicity of constellative (Soilogic) analysis ‘cuts in all directions’ in its insistence on attempting to ‘upend’ multiple (...)

    Augustine's Hermeneutics and Postmodern Criticism.Frances Young - 2004 - Interpretation: A Journal of Bible and Theology 58 (1):42-55.
Did Augustine anticipate postmodern criticism, particularly in his theory of signs? While there are superficial similarities, Augustine's position is fundamentally invested in issues of truth and reference that postmodernism brackets out.

    Durkheim and development theory.Frank W. Young - 1994 - Sociological Theory 12 (1):73-82.
The task of transforming Durkheim's sociological perspective into an explanation of poverty in rural areas carries a triple handicap: Durkheim was not concerned with material well-being, he did not conceptualize structures of inequality, and his explanation of the division of labor was flawed. His late book on religion, however, contains an explanation of institutional innovation which offers a new starting point for understanding formal dimensions such as differentiation and pluralism, and these in turn as they are related to poverty. When (...)

    Edward Kelley’s Danish treasure hoax and Elizabethan antiquarianism.Francis Young - 2020 - Intellectual History Review 30 (2):167-186.
In 1583, Edward Kelley claimed to have made a number of archaeological discoveries on Northwick Hill in Worcestershire, including a forged document, the “Northwick scroll”, purportedly giving the location of treasure hidden by the Danes. The scroll was subsequently deciphered by Kelley’s employer, John Dee. Kelley’s hoax, which had to fool one of the country’s most learned men, was carefully constructed and drew on recent antiquarian work. However, Kelley also relied on older traditions of magical treasure hunting, thereby combining two (...)
