It is rather unsatisfactory at the current phase of research the way in which the relations between images and words in the film universe are discussed. This is nevertheless a crucial issue regarding the aesthetics of the cinema. Most of the analyses carried out emphasize only the role of the imagens in the genesis and development of the significations. the working hypothesis set forth here has a different proposition, that is, an approach to the sign complex formed by the indissoluble (...) fusion of both expressive resources, which is to be viewed as an specific, original and absolutely new means of communication. This quite new character calls for a detailed and urgent research in which philosophical, semiotic and properly cinematographical approaches are brought together.O artigo parte de uma simples constatação: é bastante insatisfatória, no presente estágio da pesquisa, a colocação do problema das relações entre imagens e palavras no universo fílmico. Trata-se, no entanto, de uma questão decisiva para a estética do cinema. Em geral, as análises feitas valorizam apenas a função das imagens na gênese e no desenvolvimento das significações. A hipótese de trabalho que se apresenta aqui, vem propor, ao contrário, uma abordagem do complexo sígnico constituído pela fusão indissolúvel dos dois recursos expressivos, que forma assim um meio de comunicação específico, original e absolutamente novo. Esse caráter inédito exige uma investigação minuciosa e urgente, conjugando-se perspectivas filosóficas, semióticas e propriamente cinematográficas. (shrink)

Some criticism of Della Volpe to the Lukacsian esthetics is presented. According to the Italian philosopher, a materialistic philosophy of art could not be established upon the concept of intuition. The basic categories should be the category of "cognitive plenitude" and the category of "specific language". It is, thus, proposed that the Della volpian system be taken into consideration as the true starting point for the reflexions upon art, upon the relationships between the work and the society, upon the degree (...) of knowledge produced by the artistic universe.São apresentadas algumas críticas de Della Volpe à estética lukacsiana. Segundo o filósofo italiano, uma filosofia da arte materialista não poderia estar fundamentada no conceito de intuição. As categorias básicas seriam a de "plenitude cognoscitiva" e de "linguagens específicas". Assim, propõe-se que o sistema dellavolpiano seja levado em consideração, como verdadeiro ponto de partida para as reflexões sobre arte, sobre as relações entre a obra e a sociedade e sobre o grau de saber que o universo artístico produz.
