The favourable social conditions Fechner met at Leipzig with its university and its book industry as well as the close ties to the citizenship of that town were of outstanding importance for G.Th. Fechner (1801–1887), his scientific achievements as natural scientist and philosopher, as the founder of psychophysics and of experimental aesthetics. Since 1825 Fechner had been integrated into its social, scientific and art life in many different ways. Bei dem Anliegen der Grundlegung einer zeitgemäßen Kunstwissenschaft, das die Forscher um M. Dessoir verbindet, kommt der Auseinandersetzung mit der experimentellen Ästhetik G. Th. Fechners eine zentrale Rolle zu. So werden die antimetaphysische Haltung und die Phänomennähe dieses Ansatzes, der dezidiert die Position des ästhetischen Subjekts in den Blick nimmt, begrüßt. Allerdings bemängelt man zugleich, dass dies um den Preis der Vernachlässigung des ästhetischen Objekts geschieht, wie es vor allem K. Fiedler in erkenntnistheoretischer Absicht thematisiert hatte. Umkehrt betrachtet man es (...) an Fiedlers Objektivismus als problematisch, dass hier die Subjektivität des Rezipienten und des Künstlers programmatisch ausgeblendet bleibt. Alasdair MacIntyre criticises the ethics of modernity as fallacious, and wants it replaced by Aristotelian virtue ethics. He is particularly critical concerning modernity’s non-contextual understanding of reason, and wants to renew the ethical significance of concepts like tradition and context.

The present thesis considers, in the light of Heisenberg's interpretation of the uncertainty formulas, the conditions necessary for the derivation of the quantitative statement or law of momentum conservation. The result of such considerations is a contradiction between the formalism of quantum physics and the asserted consequences of Heisenberg's interpretation. This contradiction decides against Heisenberg's interpretation of the uncertainty formulas on upholding that the formalism of quantum physics is both consistent and complete, at least insofar as the statement of momentum (...) conservation can be proved within this formalism. A few comments are also included on Bohr's “complementarity interpretation” of the formalism of quantum physics. A suggestion, based on a statistical mode of empirical testing of the “uncertainty” formulas, does not give rise to any such contradiction. (shrink)
