Küreselleşme, son yıllarda uluslararası ilişkilerden politikaya, toplumsal yapılardan teknoloji ve kültüre kadar birçok alanda en çok tartışılan kavramlardan biri haline gelmiştir. Özellikle gelişmek ve ilerlemek isteyen toplumlar için kaçınılmaz bir süreç olarak görülmekte, bu sürece kayıtsız kalmak neredeyse imkânsız hale gelmektedir. Bauman’ın belirttiği gibi, küreselleşmiş bir dünyada yerel kalmak, toplumsal geri kalmışlık ve tecrit anlamına gelebilir. Küreselleşmeye direnerek yerel kalma çabası, daha büyük sosyal ve politik sorunları da beraberinde getirmektedir. Bununla birlikte, küreselleşmenin etkileri sadece politik veya ekonomik bağlamda kalmayıp, kültürel (...) kimlikler üzerinde de derin bir etki yaratmaktadır. Kültürel kimlikler, küreselleşmenin baskısıyla homojenleşme tehdidi altında kalabilir, bu da yerel kültürlerin zamanla erozyona uğramasına yol açabilir. Küreselleşmenin en çok etkilediği yapılar arasında ulus-devletler öne çıkmaktadır. Geleneksel olarak devlet, egemenliğin temsilcisiydi. Ancak küreselleşme ile birlikte bireyler, topluluklar, çok uluslu şirketler ve çok taraflı örgütler önemli politik aktörler olarak ortaya çıkmış ve devletin tek başına dominant aktör olma rolü büyük ölçüde zayıflamıştır. NATO, Birleşmiş Milletler (BM), Dünya Ticaret Örgütü (WTO) ve Uluslararası Para Fonu (IMF) gibi uluslararası kuruluşların genişlemesi, ulus-devletlerin egemenlik alanlarını daraltmıştır. Bu tür uluslararası kuruluşlar, küresel politikaları şekillendirirken, yerel hükümetlerin karar alma süreçlerine doğrudan veya dolaylı yollardan müdahale edebilir. Bu da özellikle bağımsızlık ve egemenlik kavramlarının sorgulanmasına yol açmaktadır. Küreselleşmenin etkileri, özellikle az gelişmiş ülkelerde daha belirgin olmuştur. Orta Doğu’da yer alan Afganistan, Irak, Suriye ve Lübnan gibi ülkelerde mezhepsel ve etnik gruplar arasındaki gerilimler, küreselleşmenin tetiklediği kimlik krizleri ile daha da derinleşmiştir. Bu ülkelerdeki kırılgan devlet yapısı, güçlü sivil kurumların eksikliği ve gelişmemiş demokratik kültür, yaygın çatışmalara ve istikrarsızlığa neden olmuştur. İç savaşlar ve sürekli çatışmalar, bu ülkelerdeki ulus inşası süreçlerini ciddi şekilde kesintiye uğratmıştır. Özellikle bu bölgelerdeki ülkeler, küresel dinamiklere uyum sağlamaya çalışırken hem iç hem de dış politik baskılar altında kalmaktadırlar. The attempt to expand the discourse of science and religion by considering the pluralistic landscape of today's world requires not only adding new voices from more religious traditions but a rethinking of the basic categories of the discourse, that is, “science,” “religion,” and the notion that the main issue to be investigated is the relationship between the two. Making use of historical studies of science and religion discourse and a case study from Indonesia, this article suggests a rethinking of the (...) categories, including giving more attention to indigenous religions. Tanrı’nın varlığı ve nitelikleri, felsefe tarihinde güncelliğini yitirmemiş önemli tartışma konularından biri olmuş ve Kutsalın varlığına dair felsefi söylemler diyalektik bir çizgide geniş bir söylem yelpazesine ulaşmıştır. Tanrı’nın varlığına ilişkin argümanlar onun evrenle ilişkisi ve insanın Tanrı’yı bilme imkânı bağlamında bütüncül bir bakış açısını da gerektirmektedir. Simon’un klasik delillere yönelttiği ilk eleştiri onların zaten kendilerine Tanrı’nın kanıtlanmasına ihtiyaç duymayan çok az insan tarafından kavranılabilecek bir yapıda olmasıdır. İkinci olarak, Tanrı’nın sıfatları ve yaratma gibi konuların bir takım analojilerle anlatılmasının doğuracağı çelişkilerin (...) ve antropomorfik Tanrı anlayışının ateist düşünceye katkı sağlayan zorlamalar olduklarıdır. Simon, buna rağmen Tanrı kanıtlamalarının ortaya koyduğu iki sonuçtan söz etmektedir: Tanrı’nın varlığı hakkında sergilenen ittifak ve bütün delillerin dayandığı nihai noktanın sonsuzluk kavramı olduğu. In recent years, the number of foreign students studying at universities in Turkey has been increasing. Recent studies show that foreign students experience problems such as social exclusion and loneliness in city and university life. Loneliness is a concept that has a direct impact on psychosocial well-being. For this reason, it seems important to examine loneliness and religious coping skills in foreign students. The aim of this study is to reveal the loneliness and religious coping levels of foreign university students (...) in terms of socio-demographic variables. Correlational research method, one of the quantitative research designs, was used in the research. The sample of the study consists of 139 students, 121 of whom are Syrian nationals and 18 Africans. On the other hand, this research is important in that it is conducted in Kilis, one of the provinces where the Syrian population is the most dense, and mostly with Syrian university students. As a result of the research, it was determined that the positive religious coping levels of university students under the age of 20 were higher than those of students over the age of 20. It was found out that the prolongation of the residence period in Turkey positively increased the religious coping levels of the students, and the family types of the students (parents together, separate, loss of parents, etc.) did not have an effect on the levels of religious coping and loneliness. On the other hand, it was showed that there was no significant relationship between the number of siblings and religious coping and loneliness in foreign students, and lastly, the religious coping levels of the engineering faculty students were higher than the students studying in other departments. Abstract When speaking about Islam and contemporary issues in science, Guessoum's Islam's Quantum Question shares many characterizations with Barbourian science and religion discourse. The focus is on theological responses to particular scientific theories. In this article I suggest an expansion of the discourse by looking at how science meets religion (as well as other local system of knowledge) in practice, in particular events such as natural disaster, when they are called upon as sources of meaning making. The encounter takes place (...) not only at the cognitive level, but may take the form of competition, collaboration, or negotiation over the authority to provide explanation. In practice the authority is supported not only by objective knowledge but involves many other factors, including politics. Thus, part of my proposal for expansion suggests the broadening of how we understand science and religion to include how assertions of authority are made in practice. (shrink)

Depremler, ani ve beklenmedik doğası ile bireylerin hayatlarını derinden etkileyen travmatik olaylardır. Bu tür olaylar, bireylerde ciddi psikolojik sorunlara yol açabilir. Deprem sonrası travmatik stres bozukluğu en yaygın görülen sorunlardan biridir. Bu bağlamda, bireylerin dini başa çıkma stratejileri kullanarak bu stresle nasıl başa çıktıkları ve bu stratejilerin psikolojik iyi oluşlarına nasıl etki ettiği bu çalışmanın ana konusunu oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın kapsamı, deprem sonrası travmatik belirtilerin şiddetini belirlemek, dini başa çıkma stratejilerinin kullanımını değerlendirmek ve bu stratejilerin psikolojik iyi oluş üzerindeki etkilerini incelemekle (...) sınırlıdır. Bu araştırmanın amacı, deprem sonrası travmaya maruz kalan bireylerin dini başa çıkma stratejilerini nasıl kullandıklarını anlamak ve bu stratejilerin psikolojik iyi oluşlarına olan etkilerini analiz etmektir. Ayrıca, ulaşılan sonuçlar doğrultusunda travma sonrası psikolojik destek ve müdahale programlarının geliştirilmesine katkı sağlanması hedeflenmektedir. Bu amaçla, travma düzeylerinin ölçülmesi ve dini başa çıkma stratejilerinin etkinliğinin incelenmesi, bireylerin iyileşme süreçlerinin daha iyi anlaşılmasına yardımcı olacaktır. Nicel araştırma desenlerinden korelasyonel araştırma yönteminin kullanıldığı çalışma kapsamında, Kahramanmaraş merkezli bölgede depreme maruz kalmış 323 katılımcı üzerinden veriler toplanmıştır. Katılımcıların demografik bilgilerini, travmatik belirtilerini, dini başa çıkma stratejilerini ve genel psikolojik iyi oluş düzeylerini değerlendirmek için çeşitli ölçekler kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizi sırasında ANOVA, korelasyon ve t testi gibi istatistiksel teknikler kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın bulguları, deprem mağdurlarının travmatik belirtilerin şiddetinde kritik eşiği aştıklarını ortaya koymaktadır. Depremzedelerin psikolojik iyi oluş düzeyleri, genellikle orta seviyelerde seyretmektedir. Evlerin hasar durumu ile deprem sonrası yaşanan travmatik belirtiler arasında ise güçlü bir ilişki bulunmuştur; evleri ağır hasar gören bireylerin travma belirtileri daha yüksek düzeyde olup, bu durum depremden sonraki psikolojik etkileri artırmaktadır. Ancak, psikolojik iyi oluş ve dini başa çıkma stratejileri ile evlerin hasar durumu arasında belirgin bir ilişki bulunamamıştır. Bu bulgular, dini başa çıkma stratejilerinin bireylerin psikolojik iyi oluşu üzerindeki etkisinin sınırlı olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Araştırmada, pozitif dini başa çıkma stratejilerinin bireylerin psikolojik iyi oluş düzeylerini bir miktar artırdığı gözlemlenmiş olsa da, bu etkinin güçlü olmadığı anlaşılmaktadır. Özellikle pozitif dini başa çıkma yöntemlerinin, bireylerin travmatik belirtilerini azaltmada sınırlı bir etkiye sahip olduğu görülmüştür. Negatif dini başa çıkma stratejilerinin ise, bireylerin psikolojik iyi oluşunu olumsuz etkilediği ve travmatik belirtileri artırdığı belirlenmiştir. Bu bulgular, travma sonrası stres yönetiminde dini başa çıkma stratejilerinin sınırlı etkisini vurgulamakta ve psikolojik destek programlarının önemini ön plana çıkarmaktadır. (shrink)

This article focuses the divorce oaths reflected in fatwās from Ottoman social life, oathbreakings and the remedies muftīs suggested to nullify divorce oaths. The purpose of the article is to describe the usage areas of the divorce oath in Ottoman social life, the problems within and outside of marriage it created, and the ways to solve these problems, based on the issues consulted to muftīs. The fatwās used as a data source in the article are limited to those have personally (...) been asked to Hanafī muftīs who served in Anatolia and Rumelia between the 16th and 18th centuries. The article is a study of the history of law that uses the fatwās in the collections, most of which are found as manuscripts, as the main data source. The acceptance of conditional divorce as a kind of oath in the Hanafī legal tradition paved the way for its use in Ottoman social life for different purposes beyond divorce. A great number of fatwās indicate that the divorce oath of husband in the family was sometimes a means of restraining and educating the wife, and sometimes a counter measure some rules of the Hanafī madhhab that may cause victimization of the wife. In social life, the divorce oath was used to reinforce personal decisions, it often functioned as a verbal guarantee in debt relations, and allowed the authorities to put pressure on people. Violation of the divorce oaths would in many cases cause serious family problems. Therefore Ottoman muftīs suggested some remedies to nullify divorce oaths. These remedies generally are proxy, marriage by unauthorized person and to divorce the wife-to break the oath-to remarry the wife. The article describes and interprets numerous fatwās on which these findings are based, in the light of Hanafī legal doctrine. (shrink)

Kebes’e göre ruhun bu dünyadan önce var olması, sonrasında da varlığını sürdüreceği anlamına gelmez. Ayrıca ona göre bedenden bedene dolaşan ruh, bu dolaşımla yok olup gider ve bu nedenle ölümsüzlük diye bir şeyden bahsedilemez. Bu bağlamda Sokrates, ruhun ölümsüzlüğüne ilişkin Kebes’in itirazını ele almanın zorluğuna işaret eder ve bu meselede oluş ve bozuluşun nedeninin araştırılması gerektiğini (...) ifade eder. Bu noktada Sokrates gençlik yıllarında kendisinin de “neden” arayışı içerisinde olduğundan ve Anaksagoras başta olmak üzere doğa araştırmacılarından etkilendiğinden bahseder. Öte yandan Sokrates doğal neden arayışındaki umutlarının da boşa çıktığını belirtir. Bu umut yitiminden sonra Sokrates ‘logoi’a sığınma’ olarak belirttiği “ikinci yolculuğa” (deuteros plous) çıkar. Oluş dünyasına tabi her şeyin kendisine göre gerçekleştiği ilkesel nedeni doğanın içinde arayan düşünürlerin çelişkilerini fark eden genç Sokrates’in, fiziki dünyadan metafiziğe doğru seyreden yolculuğu bu yazının konusunu oluşturmaktadır. Ayrıca bu yazının amacı, ruhun ölümsüzlüğü gibi bir meselede, Sokrates’in kendi hayat hikayesini paylaşmasının gerekçesini araştırmak ve buradan hareketle Kebes’in itirazına yönelik Sokratik arayışın izlerini sürmektir. This study aimed to examine the thoughts and expectations of patients receiving healthcare from their physicians and evaluate the ethical aspects of these thoughts and expectations. To determine the ethical aspects of the thoughts and expectations of patients, an open-ended question was asked on the web page of the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) Health Care Command, which is accessible to the users of the TAF intranet system (the internet system used within TAF institutions). The participants were asked to express their (...) thoughts in their own words. A total of 804 participants answered the question by providing their input. The statements of the participants were classified separately by two public health specialists. The classification was made in accordance with the basic principles of patient rights, and they were collected under various headings including expectations about respect and care, good communication, informed consent, and fair and non-privileged distribution of healthcare services. The results show that patients tend to consider the physicians they see as solely responsible for all the negative issues that they encounter during their healthcare. This indicates that there is a need for extensive research on the underlying factors involved in the negative thoughts and feelings toward healthcare professionals in both TAF and Turkey in general. Considered likely to be the fastest-growing form of Christianity, Pentecostal and Charismatic (P/C) movements embrace more than half a billion adherents globally. This volume contributes to recent scholarly attention on this expansion and its social characteristics through the study of 270 churches across five major Indonesian cities.With funding from the Pentecostal and Charismatic Research Initiative at the University of Southern California, seven of the eight essays are authored by [End Page 216] Indonesian researchers. The chapters consider a wide range of P/C characteristics: its liturgical contours, spirituality, sociological makeup, understandings of sex and gender, the organizational history of affiliated synods, and relations with non-P/C Christians and Muslims. While the articles draw on English-language P/C scholarship in only a limited way, they frequently cite publications in Bahasa, making accessible to the English-speaking world materials otherwise unavailable.The title of the book suggests the unifying premise of the collection: ambitions for modernity and prosperity fuel the rapid growth of P/C Christianity in Indonesia. As indicative of these motivations, the authors point to P/C professionalism, technological savviness, use of English, celebration of financial success, inattention to ethnic identities, and connections with global Christianity. Ubed Abdilah Syarif makes the strongest case for this argument in chapter 4, drawing on interviews with pastors and their account of the P/C "theology of success."The collection considers the ethics of P/C Christians only in passing. With the Muslim majority, P/C Christians share numerous moral restrictions, including on alcohol, smoking, bribery, and pornography. When prohibition does not direct moral action, P/C Christians navigate daily life with pragmatic flexibility, intuitions, and direct communication with God (40–43). These brief observations signal the need for a deeper understanding of P/C moral reflection and its constructive contributions to Christian ethics.Further, the recent turn to fieldwork in Christian ethics makes this book instructive for how it illuminates the difficulties accompanying qualitative methods. As the preface notes, the non-P/C religious identities of the Indonesian researchers slowed gaining access to pastors and congregations (viii, 4, 8–9). Beyond this passing admission, the authors spend little time considering their relationship with their object of inquiry. The tone throughout proceeds as description with the most remarkable field experiences going unexamined. To illustrate, Y. Agus Heru Santoso recounts her participation in a revival meeting: "Spontaneously, I, too stood up, sang the song, and started to pray in a language I have never learnt nor heard. … I am not and never have been P/C" (50). Despite the reader's immediate interest, Santoso continues in a disinterested tone. A more reflexive consideration of the perplexities of participant observation, with its disorienting plunge into the informants' world, would have deepened the readers' understanding of P/C experience.A further methodological challenge is found in the periodic dissonance between the authors' interpretations and P/C Christians' own utterances. This is most evident in chapter 2 where Johanes Louis M. Lengkong attributes the rapid growth of P/C Christianity to an aspiration for status and "global Christian citizenship" (29). Yet this reoccurring claim appears predominantly based [End Page 217] on the author's own inferences rather than on survey and interview data. While the concluding analysis may be correct, the subtle yet systematic dismissal of alternative emic explanations requires further defense.Despite these shortcomings, the articles shed valuable light on the shape of Indonesian P/C Christianity through examination of a variety of aspects. Bireysel dindarlığın önemli bir bileşenini oluşturan bu merasimler aynı zamanda kapsamlı bir toplumsal ve siyasî muhtevaya sahiptir. Bunun günümüz İran’ındaki en önemli örneği, merasimleri icra etmek için bir araya gelmiş insanlardan müteşekkil dinî heyetlerdir. Fütüvvet geleneğinin etkilerinin görüldüğü dinî heyetler, modern (...) dönemde İran toplumunun ürettiği özgün bir fenomendir. Abstract The publication of Islam's Quantum Question coincided with a burst of interest in the subject of Islam and science. This article first places the book in context (academic and cultural); in particular, an update is given on the two strong current trends of I'jaz, the “miraculous scientific content in the Qur’an” and Muslim creationism, and a note is made of the “Arab Spring” and its potential effect on science in the Arab-Muslim world. The second part is devoted to a (...) discussion of the views presented by the four reviewers (Brooke, Hameed, Dajani, and Bagir): my “theistic science” approach, the similarities and contrasts between Christian and Islamic approaches to the scientific exploration of the world, the importance of relating religion and science in practice, not just in theory, the need for a theology of nature versus natural theology in Islam, and so on. Bu çalışmada Çorlulu Ali Paşa ve Çorlulu Ali Paşa Külliyesi hakkında kısa bir bilgi verilerek Çorlulu Ali Paşa tarafından yaptırılan kütüphane, kütüphanenin tamiri, bu kütüphanede mevcut olan ilk kitapların isimleri ve hangi alanda oldukları ayrıntılı olarak açıklanmış ve 18. yüzyıl Osmanlı entelektüel dünyasında ne tür eserlerin okunduğuna dair ipuçları sununulmuştur. Çorlulu Ali Paşa tarafından Parmakkapı yakınında Simkeşhane’nin bulunduğu bölgeye 4 Muharrem 1121/16 Mart 1709 yılında inşası tamamlanan câmi‘-i şerîf, dârü’l-hadîs, hânkâh, imâret, kütüphane gibi bölümleri ihtiva eden bir külliye inşa (...) edilmiştir Çorlulu Ali Paşa Kütüphanesi farklı tarihlerde tamir edilmiştir. 1894’de meydana gelen büyük deprem neticesinde zarar görmesi nedeniyle tamirata ihtiyaç duyulmuştur 7 Cemaziyelevvel 1314/14 Ekim 1896 tarihli tezkire ile depremde hasara uğrayan medrese ve kütüphanenin tamir edilmesi belirtilmiştir. 1901 yılında ise tekrar kütüphanenin tamirine ihtiyaç duyulmuştur. Kütüphanenin kurulma tarihine yakın olması ve kütüphanedeki ilk kitaplar olabilmesi düşüncesiyle makalede temel alınan defter Başbakanlık Osmanlı Arşivi’nde, Başmuhasebe Muhalefat Halifeliği Kalemi Defterleri arasında yer almaktadır. Defter ebrulu, 15x39,5 ebadındadır ve sayfa usülüyle numaralandırılmıştır. Toplam sayfa sayısı 24, numaralı boş sayfalar 1-3, 17-24’dür. Defterde ilk kayıttan anlaşılacağı üzere 20 C 1136/16 Mart 1724 tarihinde Çorlulu Ali Paşa Kütüphanesi’nde bulunan kitapların listesi verilmiştir. Defterde kütüphanede yer alan kitaplar tefsir, hadis, fıkıh gibi alan başlıkları altında sıralanmış ve cilt sayıları verilmiştir. Bazı eserlerin yazarlarının yazılmasına karşılık bazı eserlerin yazarları verilmeyip sadece eser ismi belirtilmiştir. Bu makaledeki amaç 18. Yüzyılda Osmanlı kütüphanelerinin birinde ne tür kitapların bulunduğu ve Osmanlı aydın kesiminin hangi türden kitaplara yoğun ilgi duyduğunu anlayabilmektir. Rituals are a very important part of daily life, traditions, cultural and religious gatherings and have a significant role on teaching about cultural heritage and social codes. Teaching about religious and cultural rituals have also important effects on personal development, acculturation and social engagement of an individual. Exploring and understanding the personal, cultural and social aspects of rituals is an important purpose of education and especially religious education. Educational drama offers educational environments that students can improve creativity, critical thinking, empathy, (...) communication skills, knowing others and respect to differences. Creative drama offers a suitable learning environment for students to understand social aspects and importance of rituals it allows students to share their previous experiences and to learn from other students. The aim of this article is to determine the effects of creative drama on teaching about religious and cultural rituals in the school context. For this purpose, creative drama sessions on daily prayer in Islam, fasting in Ramadan, religious feasts in Islam, month of Muharrem and Ashoura and Nawruz Festival has been carried out with 16 secondary school students. Research data has been gathered with focus group interviews and analyzed with thematic analysis method via NVIVO program. It is determined that students have reached an understanding about; basic information about rituals, understanding the source of rituals, being eager to participate to the rituals and knowing about others. These findings can be considered as learning outcome of creative drama sessions on cultural and religious rituals. And students have found creative drama sessions are beneficial in regard of active participation, sharing personal experiences and exploring differences. (shrink)
