The process of transformation of the theoretical model of desire as a phenomenon of subjective socio-cultural reality and the essential expression of the whole human being is comprehended. The methodological basis of the article consists of general scientific and philosophical methods of cognition; the authors rely on the dialectical method in studying the phenomenon of desire as the unity of the material and symbolic worlds. The causes and consequences of changes that occur in modern consumer society from the standpoint of (...) “wishing human”, when the desire that actualizes the person of the subject is defined as a process carried out by man in everyday life. Socio-economic mechanisms are analysed, which, on the one hand, force a person to work constantly, and on the other hand – to rethink their needs and desires, transforming the latter, as a result of which it moves to the consumption of objects, many of which are incorporeal. The ontological aspect of the interpretation of desire as a way of social existence expands the knowledge of human nature and seeks to answer the question of why certain events occur in human existence and how they relate to human. It can be stated that the attempt to form a new hedonistic value system in the new generation was successful, and its key differences from the traditional hedonistic value system are immateriality, accessibility and a large number of adherents, which naturally follows from this accessibility. Multi-vector communication involves the possibility of varying the choice of freedom of the subject, which in actions and inferences is relative one, although there is a dependence on communication with sociality, a form of communication with which there is a desire. Subject and object are constituted by desire, which is the impetus for creation, change, movement, and acquisition. (shrink)

It is easy to ridicule the pretense and silliness of many works coming from the “art world.” The story of the arts, for at least the past century and a half, has been one of attempts to keep alive something that is long past dead. For example, without a substantial understanding of quality, aesthetics has been held up as a substitute for life. But the aesthetic, long touted as fundamental to the goals of art, begs other questions: which aesthetic responses? (...) What if one does not have the same, or any, aesthetic response? This essay explores an alternative, one that refutes the modernist conception of substituting mere pleasure and emotion, that is, preferences, for the idea of Beauty as the manifestation of what is known to be True and Good. Instead of seeking living art that is Beautiful, and can bring life, postmodern culture is surrounded by dead, zombie art. Strategies for stopping the flood of long-dead zombie works include reason, ridicule, and pointing the way back to Beauty. (shrink)

Ever since Saul Kripke and others developed a semantic interpretation for modal logic, 'possible worlds' has been a much debated issue in contemporary metaphysics. Construed broadly as interpretation theory, hermeneutics could be understood to encompass all modes of interpretation (textual or otherwise), including any kind of literary criticism, from Aristotle's poetics to the New Criticism of the 1950s, as well as the French tradition of structuralism and even perhaps Derridean poststructural thought. Although Gadamer and Ricoeur both recognize the poetic work or, at least, lyric poetry, as belonging to a special class of literature, they do display somewhat different attitudes toward it. While there is a considerable body of research on law student identity construction based on interviews and transcripts of classroom talk, there is very little work based on student written texts. In this article two letters of advice written by beginning law students are analysed, using Ivanic and Camps’s framework, as an example of identity formation. Legal identity is argued to be formed by students’ attempts to accommodate a dynamic, partial, practitioner role of provider of advice to the traditional analytic (...) focus of the law student. The process of accommodation is evident in the language of the letters, which show disfluencies resulting from attempts to combine different roles into a coherent legal identity. Comparison with a professionally written letter suggests that, rather than seeking to shape a coherent position, lawyers are able simultaneously to hold incompatible perspectives, concealing the tensions by foregrounding some perspectives and backgrounding others. A common contemporary view is that the Bible and subsequent Christian thought authorize humans to exploit animals purely as means to human ends. This paper argues that Biblical and Christian thought have given rise to a more complex ethic of animal use informed by its pastoralist origins, Biblical pronouncements that permit different interpretations, and competing ideas and doctrines that arose during its development, and influenced by the rich and often contradictory features of ancient Hebrew and Greco-Roman traditions. The result is (...) not a uniform ethic but a tradition of unresolved debate. Differing interpretations of the Great Chain of Being and the conflict over animal experimentation demonstrate the colliding values inherent in the complex history of Biblical and Christian thought on animals.
