Summary The first Chinese congress for hermeneutics demonstrated the vast and intimate knowledge of the Chinese researchers of the German hermeneutic debate. It opened fruitful perspectives for further exchange of views between eastern and western scholars in the field of the humanities.

This new volume on logic follows a recognizable format that deals in turn with the topics of mathematical logic, moving from concepts, via definitions and inferences, to theories and axioms. However, this fresh work offers a key innovation in its ‘pyramidal’ graph system for the logical formalization of all these items. The author has developed this new methodology on the basis of original research, traditional logical instruments such as Porphyrian trees, and modern concepts of classification, in which pyramids are the (...) central organizing concept. The pyramidal schema enables both the content of concepts and the relations between the concept positions in the pyramid to be read off from the graph. Logical connectors are analyzed in terms of the direction in which they connect within the pyramid. Additionally, the author shows that logical connectors are of fundamentally different types: only one sort generates propositions with truth values, while the other yields conceptual expressions or complex concepts. On this basis, strong arguments are developed against adopting the non-discriminating connector definitions implicit in Wittgensteinian truth-value tables. Special consideration is given to mathematical connectors so as to illuminate the formation of concepts in the natural sciences. To show what the pyramidal method can contribute to science, a pyramid of the number concepts prevalent in mathematics is constructed. The book also counters the logical dogma of ‘false’ contradictory propositions and sheds new light on the logical characteristics of probable propositions, as well as on syllogistic and other inferences. Namen wie "Meta-", "Peri-", "Proto-" usw. "-Philosophie" wie auch "Philosophie der Philosophie" sind nur neue Bezeichnungen der alten Disziplin Metaphysik.

Anläßlich des Erscheinens eines Buches über neueste philosophische Strömungen in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland von Mitgliedern der sowjetischen Akademie in Moskau wird deren Diagnose der Lage der Wissenschaftstheorie dargestellt und ergänzt. Man sieht eine Konvergenz positivistischer und hermeneutischer Konzeptionen auf der Grundlage eines voluntaristischen Dezisionismus.

Report on a symposium “Analytical Philosophy of Science today”, July 23–24, 1995, in Beijing. The symposium demonstrates the actual interest and familiarity of Chinese researchers with Western philosophy of science and especially with analytical philosophizing. Main topics were diagnoses of the actual state of the art, discussion and critique of some classics and classical analytical conceptions, application of analytical thinking on hermeneutical problems, and its possible social function.

The article points out some ancient, medieval and modern topics of western philosophy which come near or appear to be identical with features of Mahayana-Buddhist thinking. Whether they are due to mutual contact and transfer between the two intellectual cultures or are independent parallel phenomena is, because of total lack of pertaining documents, a merely hypothetical question in want of future research. Der Beitrag stellt einige antike, mittelalterliche und moderne Argumentationen der westlichen Philosophie heraus, die mahayana-buddhistischen Denkweisen nahekommen oder mit (...) ihnen identisch erscheinen. Ob sich dies einem gegenseitigen Kontakt und Einfluss zwischen den beiden geistigen Kulturen verdankt oder ob es sich dabei um unabhängige parallele Erscheinungen handelt, ist bei dem völligen Mangel an einschlägigen Dokumenten eine rein hypothetische Frage, die noch künftiger Forschung bedarf.
