Some-se a isso que a virtude da temperança é vertiginosamente deixada de lado e sem ela a Justiça não se realizará jamais. Estes alertas apontam para o cuidado que se deve ter durante a análise dos casos, banindo as vertentes de significações alienadas que corrompem a convicção do interpretante. (...) A ideia da condição polissêmica remete à perda do espeque do signo, o que provoca a abertura de acepções díspares e fundamentadas em fatores repertoriais particulares, e que pode destoar do fato concreto. A base semiótica legada por Peirce e a herança de Fichte para o Direito, abordada segundo o respectivo sistema de seu idealismo, auxiliarão na investigação de um contexto coeso para este estudo. Assim, imprescindível a compreensão de que as interpretações, quando ocorrem com os ecos polissêmicos em relação aos objetos de processos judiciais, representam um equívoco deteriorante no exercício judicativo, o que se deve evitar. Mozambique has seen remarkable growth in biomedical research over the last decade. To meet a growing need, the National Committee for Bioethics in Health of Mozambique encouraged the development of ethical review processes at institutions that regularly conduct medical and social science research. In 2012, the Faculty of Medicine of University Eduardo Mondlane and the Maputo Central Hospital established a joint Institutional Committee on Bioethics for Health. This study examines the experience of the first 4 years of the CIBS FM (...) & MCH. This study provides a descriptive, retrospective analysis of research protocols submitted to and approved by the CIBS FM & MCH between March 1, 2013 and December 31, 2016, together with an analysis of the Committee’s respective reviews and actions. A total of 356 protocols were submitted for review during the period under analysis, with 309 protocols approved. Sixty-four percent were submitted by students, faculty, and researchers from UEM, mainly related to Master’s degree research. Descriptive cross-sectional studies were the most frequently reviewed research. The majority were prospective and used quantitative methodologies. The Departments of Internal Medicine at MCH and Community Health at the FM submitted the most protocols from their respective institutions, with 38 and 53% respectively. The CIBS’s average time to final approval for all protocols was 56 days, rising to 161 for the 40 protocols that required subsequent national-level review by the CNBS. Our results show that over its first 4 years, the CIBS FM & MCH has been successful in managing a constant demand for protocol review and that several broad quality improvement initiatives, such as investigator mentoring and an electronic protocol submission platform have improved efficiency in the review process and the overall quality of the protocols submitted. Beyond Maputo, long-term investments in training and ethical capacity building for CIBS across the country continue to be needed, as Mozambique develops greater capacity for research and makes progress toward improving the health of all its citizens. This article deals with three elements that are related to my Ph.D. research — early Christianity, apocalyptic literature and gnosis — and their reception in contemporary public space. Specific examples are given that confirm the contemporary world’s survival interest in religions, including early Christianity, apocalyptic belief systems and gnosis. The text also discusses certain manifestations of this interest provided by works of fiction and books whose authors are not always aware of serious academic research in these fields. El trabajo procura mostrar que la propuesta de Herveo sobre la naturaleza de las intentiones puede entenderse como una revisión y corrección de los planteos de Radulfo Brito. En el De secundis intentionibus de Herveo de Natal, el modista Radulfo Brito aparece aludido en la presentación de una de las opiniones que identifica la intentio con el acto intelectual (d. 1, q. 2). Conforme a esta doctrina, la cosa real que es objeto de conocimiento es denominada intentio precisamente a partir (...) del acto intelectual. La fortaleza de esta doctrina radica en que parece que efectivamente el acto intelectual es requerido para que una cosa sea intentio, esto es, el término de la tendencia con la cual el intelecto tiende hacia (in-tendit) su objeto. En efecto, parece que, si no hay acto intelectual, mal puede hablarse de dicha tendencia. Herveo considera inaceptable que la intentio, ya se trate de la primera o de la segunda, sea identificada con el acto intelectual, pues este es una entidad real con un esse subiectivum, que cae dentro de alguna de las diez categorías aristotélicas. Sin embargo, Herveo recoge la distinción de Radulfo entre intentio in concreto e intentio in abstracto y la reformula a su modo. La intentio in abstracto o intentionalitas es la relación de razón de la cosa conocida con el intelecto. La distinción entre intentiones primeras no se explica, como en Radulfo, como basada respectivamente en un conocimiento intrínseco y otro respectivo o relacional. Más bien se debe a una distinción entre dos "órdenes de inteligibles": lo que pertenece a las cosas en sí mismas, apartando la acción del intelecto, y lo que les pertenece como consecuencia de estar objetivamente en el intelecto. Sin embargo, Herveo retendrá a su modo la distinción de Radulfo, al considerar aquellas intenciones segundas que significan de modo relacional. (shrink)

Cet article traite de christianisme ancien, de littérature apocalyptique et de gnose, trois champs de recherche liés à ma recherche doctorale, dans le but de discuter de leur réception dans l’espace public contemporain. Les différents exemples donnés dans ce texte montrent bien que cet espace public contemporain est toujours friand de sujets religieux, en particulier dans les domaines cités. Il est vrai que cet intérêt a été moussé par des ouvrages de fiction et des livres qui utilisent le christianisme comme (...) arrière-plan, mais sans être au courant des recherches actuelles. Le rôle du chercheur en sciences des religions apparaît donc crucial et reste au centre de l’ensemble des considérations réunies ici. (shrink)

Randomization is an integral part of well-designed statistical trials, and is also a required procedure in legal systems. Implementation of honest, unbiased, understandable, secure, traceable, auditable and collusion resistant randomization procedures is a mater of great legal, social and political importance. Given the juridical and social importance of randomization, it is important to develop procedures in full compliance with the following desiderata: (a) Statistical soundness and computational efficiency; (b) Procedural, cryptographical and computational security; (c) Complete auditability and traceability; (d) Any (...) attempt by participating parties or coalitions to spuriously influence the procedure should be either unsuccessful or be detected; (e) Open-source programming; (f) Multiple hardware platform and operating system implementation; (g) User friendliness and transparency; (h) Flexibility and adaptability for the needs and requirements of multiple application areas (like, for example, clinical trials, selection of jury or judges in legal proceedings, and draft lotteries). This paper presents a simple and easy to implement randomization protocol that assures, in a formal mathematical setting, full compliance to the aforementioned desiderata for randomization procedures. El objetivo de este trabajo es efectuar un recorrido por la historia, características y proceso de restauración de dos de las piezas más antiguas de la Colección de Arqueología de la Técnica e Industrial del Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales. CSIC. Son dos microscopios del siglo XVIII, construidos en Inglaterra. El microscopio simple-compuesto, construido por George Adams hacia 1750-1770 pudo pertenecer a D. Antonio de Ulloa o a Don Pedro Franco Dávila. Sólo se exponen dos piezas semejantes en el Museo (...) de la Ciencia de Ginebra y en el de Londres. El microscopio compuesto, construido por Dollond hacia 1780, fue propiedad de Eugenio Izquierdo de Rivera y Lazaún sucesor de D. Pedro Franco Dávila en la dirección del Real Gabinete de Historia Natural, actual Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales. Era un conocido naturalista y, además, juez, diplomático, secretario e informante de Manuel Godoy. (shrink)

El magnífico mobiliario del Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, cuenta con dos piezas de enorme significado, prácticamente desconocidas. Ambas, del siglo XVIII, se inscriben en el contexto ilustrado del reinado de Carlos III y formaron parte del Real Gabinete de Historia Natural, actual MNCN. Son una gran mesa de madera de narra asana (Pterocarpus indicus L.) de Manila, pieza única puesto que, en el estado actual de nuestros conocimientos, no consta ninguna semejante en otras colecciones. Perteneció al primer director del (...) RGHN D. Pedro Franco Dávila. Además la gran librería de pino (Pinus sylvestris L.), encargada por el Conde de Floridablanca. (shrink)

Se presenta un estudio histórico y de caracterización química y molecular por técnicas no destructivas, ESEMEDS y Raman, de nueve esculturas de pequeño tamaño, fabricadas en esteatita, antigua denominación de minerales blandos y untuosos como talco y pirofilita, conservadas en el Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (MNCN). Se concluye que dos especímenes son de pirofilita y procedentes de Japón, mientras que las otras siete son de talco con ornamentación de procedencia China. Las muestras de talco de China tienen calcita con (...) algo de cobre, típica de metamorfismo de dolomías, mientras que las pirofilitas tienen Pb, Fe, Cl, As, P, S, Na y Ca, elementos químicos de origen hidrotermal de rocas félsicas más característico de Japón. Las estatuillas fueron aportadas al RGHN desde Filipinas, en el siglo XVIII, por D. Juan de Cuellar, expedicionario y botánico español, de quien se incluye un recorrido por su biografía y actividades científico-económicas. Estas piezas son la expresión de la tendencia al coleccionismo de objetos orientales imperante en la época de la Ilustración. (shrink)

In van Benthem (2008), van Benthem proposes a dynamic consequence relation defined as${\psi _1}, \ldots,{\psi _n}{ \models ^d}\phi \,{\rm{iff}}{ \models ^{pa}}[{\psi _1}] \ldots [{\psi _n}]\phi,$where the latter denotes consequence in public announcement logic, a dynamic epistemic logic. In this paper we investigate the structural properties of a conditional dynamic consequence relation$\models _{\rm{\Gamma }}^d$extending van Benthem’s proposal. It takes into account a set of background conditions Γ, inspired by Makinson (2003) wherein Makinson calls this reasoning ‘modulo’ a set Γ. In the (...) presence of common knowledge, conditional dynamic consequence is definable from (unconditional) dynamic consequence. An open question is whether dynamic consequence is compact. We further investigate a dynamic consequence relation for soft instead of hard announcements. Surprisingly, it shares many properties with (hard) dynamic consequence. Dynamic consequence relations provide a novel perspective on reasoning about protocols in multi-agent systems. (shrink)

Resumo: Por intermédio da análise dos gêneros carta e conto escritos por Machado de Assis, procuramos oferecer uma resposta à questão do horizonte ético e moral que opera nos textos do autor. Trabalhamos numa perspectiva interdisciplinar, pois dialogamos com filósofos, historiadores e críticos literários procurando, num primeiro momento, demonstrar que a noção de cuidado de si se mostra na correspondência machadiana a partir da perspectiva de cura de si, isto é, um tipo de sabedoria dos antigos gregos e romanos que (...) o autor lança mão para realizar e organizar o pensamento literário, seu e de seus pares, na direção das publicações e conquistas no âmbito da literatura. Num segundo momento, demonstramos que o cuidado de si terá outro sentido nos textos de ficção, pois se volta para um cuidado da alma no sentido do desenvolvimento do pensamento crítico do sujeito em relação ao eu e ao outro, ao indivíduo e ao mundo social. The care of the self as an ethical perspective in Machado de Assis Abstract : Through the analysis of the genres letter and short story written by Machado de Assis, we try to offer an answer to the question of the ethical and moral horizon that operates in the author's texts. We work in an interdisciplinary perspective, as we dialogue with philosophers, historians and literary critics, trying, in a first moment, to demonstrate that the notion of self-care is shown in Machado's correspondence from the perspective of self-cure, that is, a kind of wisdom from the ancient Greeks and Romans that the author uses to accomplish and organize the literary thought, his own and his peers', in the direction of publications and achievements in the field of literature. In a second moment, we demonstrate that the care of the self will have another meaning in fiction texts, since it turns to a care of the soul in the sense of the development of the subject's critical thought in relation to the self and to the other, to the individual and to the social world. N.S. xvi , 327, I suggested that this demand of Gallus’ was probably probing dangerously deeply into and perhaps threatening to wreck the carefully worked-out imperial promotions system, the working of which has been examined by Birley. Cuando Eugenio d’Ors deja Barcelona en julio de 1921 solo le faltaban tres meses para cumplir los cuarenta años. A los cuarenta —escribió su hijo Álvaro— lo más normal es que los hombres no cambien ya su caudal de ideas. La originalidad de la época catalana sobre el resto de la producción de d'Ors no significa, (...) sin embargo, un menosprecio de los años posteriores. Fue en gran medida su producción no catalana y su constante actividad y participación en muchos otros proyectos españoles y europeos, lo que hizo que su “gloria catalana” no quedara diluida y que su figura tenga hoy un lugar destacado en las letras españolas. Por todo ello, la exposición está organizada en las tres secciones siguiente: 1) Su biografía catalana; 2) la primera etapa de su biografía castellana, y 3) Su visión de España en los años 30. (Oxford Classical Monographs)The Roman province of Baetica has not received a comprehensive treatment since R. Thouvenot’s Essai sur la province romaine de Bétique (Paris 1940; 2d ed. 1973). Since then, (...) important epigraphic finds such as the Tabula Irnitana (AE 1986, 333) and archaeological excavations have greatly modified our understanding of the structure of Roman cities in this province. Fear endeavors to assess the urban phenomenon in Roman Baetica in light of this new evidence. Rather than “Urbanization,” his subtitle might better have read “Urban Change,” since Baetica had already been largely urbanized by the Carthaginians and Iberians, and the real issue is how the native cities were affected by the Roman presence. The author himself concedes that Baetica had a “native urban tradition,” whereas there is “little firm evidence that Rome pursued an active urbanizing policy” (27–29). He also shows that while Romanization may have been passive from a Roman perspective, the inhabitants were actively involved in “bottom-up” initiatives to improve the status and amenities of their cities.An introductory chapter surveys Baetican geography and examines an anthropological model of colonialism. Since Fear later questions “whether the premisses of such a model... are in fact of any use when looking at the life of a Roman province” (274), it is unclear why he includes it at all. The next chapter discusses the characteristics of an ancient city, and (with a range of examples from Britain to Palestine) how urbanism was diffused in new areas. Listing the features of a city mentioned—but incidentally, rather than as a definition—in the Digest, Fear examines to what extent these are reflected in the laws of Urso and Irni. This seems an artificial and otiose exercise, since the colony of Urso and the municipium of Irni were unquestionably cities, even if the Urso law, for instance, contains no reference to bath houses. Moreover, Fear’s tendency to use interchangeably the terms “town” and “city” obscures the issue of urban definition; the pre-Roman oppida of the Baetican highlands may have been towns, but were not cities.Chapter 3 investigates the state of urbanism (including colonies like Carteia and Corduba) in southern Spain around 50 b.c. Fear challenges conventional opinion by discounting the conventus as a major factor in urbanization and by questioning whether mining brought large numbers of Italians to the province. He also shows that while the legends on local coinage were Latinized, the designs (bull, Melqart, Iberian cavalryman) remained pre-Roman. The next chapter asks whether the Late Republican colonies were really miniature replicas of Rome, as Aulus Gellius (16.13) suggests. Fear argues that while the colonies did imitate Rome in such features as law and public architecture, they were “content to adapt native structures” (104) in other areas. This was because the Baetican colonies were not founded on “greenfield” sites (such as Emerita in [End Page 143] Lusitania) but were superimposed on indigenous settlements, thereby including a substantial proportion of Spanish incolae who inevitably had an “Iberianizing” influence on the colonists.The chapter on the Julio-Claudian period is primarily an analysis of the elder Pliny’s list of Baetican privileged towns. Fear finds very few cases in which we can state with certainty whether municipia were of Roman or Latin status. He also maintains that the distinctive cognomina assigned to the cities did not confer legal status (contra M. I. Henderson, JRS 32 [1942] 6, who saw them as “flowery colonial titles”) but simply helped distinguish between homonymous place names. Chapter 6 considers the impact of the Flavian Municipal Law, which Fear sees as a general blueprint, a lawyer’s vision of what life should be like in a municipium. In this article, we develop an approach for the moral assessment of research and development networks on the basis of the reflective equilibrium approach proposed by Rawls and Daniels. The reflective equilibrium approach aims at coherence between moral judgments, principles, and background theories. We use this approach because it takes seriously the moral judgments of the actors involved in R & D, whereas it also leaves room for critical reflection about these judgments. It is shown that two norms, namely reflective (...) learning and openness and inclusiveness, which are used in the literature on policy and technological networks, contribute to achieving a justified overlapping consensus. We apply the approach to a case study about the development of an innovative sewage treatment technology and show how in this case the two norms are or could be instrumental in achieving a justified overlapping consensus on relevant moral issues. We study the generic theory of algebraically closed fields of fixed positive characteristic with a predicate for an additive subgroup, called $\mathrm {ACFG}$. This theory was introduced in [16] as a new example of $\mathrm {NSOP}_{1}$ nonsimple theory. In this paper we describe more features of $\mathrm {ACFG}$, such as imaginaries. We also study various independence relations in $\mathrm {ACFG}$, such as Kim-independence or forking independence, and describe interactions between them.

The variety of residuated lattices includes a vast proportion of the classes of algebras that are relevant for algebraic logic, e.g., \-groups, Heyting algebras, MV-algebras, or De Morgan monoids. Among the outliers, one counts orthomodular lattices and other varieties of quantum algebras. We suggest a common framework—pointed left-residuated \-groupoids—where residuated structures and quantum structures can all be accommodated. We investigate the lattice of subvarieties of pointed left-residuated \-groupoids, their ideals, and develop a theory of left nuclei. Finally, we extend some (...) parts of the theory of join-completions of residuated \-groupoids to the left-residuated case, giving a new proof of MacLaren’s theorem for orthomodular lattices. Roman conflict with Parthia in the mid first century for control of Armenia and Domitius Corbulo's exploits in the East, culminating in the Parthian candidate for the throne, Tiridates, receiving his diadem from the hands of the Emperor Nero in Rome, have frequently been studied for what they reveal about military and diplomatic manoeuvres under the later Julio-Claudians. The historiographical investigation of our main source, Tacitus, particularly through comparison with the fragments of Cassius Dio, is also important for the light (...) this sheds on the Roman senator's methods. The intention of this paper is to draw attention to the complexity of Tacitus’ account by indicating his use of multiple and sometimes contradictory viewpoints in his narration of Caesennius Paetus’ unsuccessful Armenian campaign of a.d. 62–63 and to highlight an unrecognized echoing of his predecessor Livy by the historian. The examination of a text that is as elusive as it is allusive will require a careful study of what must have been a debated incident, but, as I hope to show, will give a broader insight into the historian's methods and, perhaps, wider intentions. I begin with an outline of historical events and the sources available to the historian. Next, I present a narratological examination of the text to show how differing viewpoints are highlighted within a contested storyline. I then show how this confusion may appear to be dispelled by a strong plot-line that borrows heavily from Livy, wherein the actions of an older, experienced general are contrasted with those of his subordinate. However, aspects of this account suggest that the tensions within the narrative are not resolved and that this has wider implications for our understanding of the historian and his work. (shrink)

Discrepancies between the Uniform Determination of Death Act (UDDA) and the adult and pediatric diagnostic guidelines for brain death (BD) (the “Guidelines”) have motivated proposals to revise the UDDA. A revision proposed by Lewis, Bonnie and Pope (the RUDDA), has received particular attention, the three novelties of which would be: (1) to specify the Guidelines as the legally recognized “medical standard,” (2) to exclude hypothalamic function from the category of “brain function,” and (3) to authorize physicians to conduct an apnea (...) test without consent and even over a proxy’s objection. One hundred seven experts in medicine, bioethics, philosophy, and law, spanning a wide variety of perspectives, have come together in agreement that while the UDDA needs revision, the RUDDA is not the way to do it. Specifically, (1) the Guidelines have a non-negligible risk of false-positive error, (2) hypothalamic function is more relevant to the organism as a whole than any brainstem reflex, and (3) the apnea test carries a risk of precipitating BD in a non-BD patient, provides no benefit to the patient, does not reliably accomplish its intended purpose, and is not even absolutely necessary for diagnosing BD according to the internal logic of the Guidelines; it should at the very least require informed consent, as do many procedures that are much more beneficial and less risky. Finally, objections to a neurologic criterion of death are not based only on religious belief or ignorance. People have a right to not have a concept of death that experts vigorously debate imposed upon them against their judgment and conscience; any revision of the UDDA should therefore contain an opt-out clause for those who accept only a circulatory-respiratory criterion. This paper will proceed from the assumption of scholars like Anne Fernihough, Peter Fjagsund, Michael Black, and Michael Bell that there are sufficient connecting links between the literary oeuvre of D.H. Lawrence and the philosophizing of Martin Heidegger that they warrant consideration in each other's company. The paper will attempt to provide more evidence for what these scholars have been contending. It seeks to make the case that although D.H. Lawrence and Martin Heidegger start from very different beginning points, the (...) one literary, the other epistemological (so to speak), they arrive at surprisingly similar conclusions about the deficiencies in the specifically modern way of viewing human existence and the world. The paper isolates certain of Lawrence and Heidegger's key passages relevant to the themes of science, humanism, art and death and reveals them as looking at these fundamental issues from a remarkably similar standpoint. These two metaphysicians were groping for the right path forward from the intellectual and social crises of the twentieth century and the evidence suggests they saw it as lying in the same direction. This study examined the relationship between unethical employee behavior and the dimensions of the Ethical Climate Questionnaire (ECQ). In order to explore the relationship between the dimensions of the ECQ and unethical behavior, the factor structure of five previously identified empirical models and the hypothesized nine-dimension model for the ECQ was tested with a confirmatory factor analysis. The analysis revealed that the hypothesized nine-dimension model provided as good or even better fit to the data than the five empirically derived models. (...) Therefore, the nine-dimensional model was used to examine the criterion-related validity of the ECQ. The results demonstrated that the nine ethical climate dimensions were correlated with some of the unethical behaviors examined in this study, but not others. However, the results clearly demonstrated that most of the ethical climate dimensions were significantly related to an aggregate measure of unethical behavior. It was suggested that these results might account for the differences in previous studies on the criterion-related validity of the ECQ. The results also replicated a previous report that the association between unethical behavior and ethical climate is stronger in organizations that do not have a code of ethics. Finally, a difference was observed in the ethical climates for organizations with a code of ethics and organizations without a code of ethics. (shrink)

Introducción: cultivar el pensamiento positivo en el ser humano es una necesidad y está relacionado estrechamente con su calidad de vida. Los estudiantes universitarios transitan por una etapa del ciclo vital individual importante, una de sus metas es lograr una profesión; tener una actitud mental optimista puede ser de gran ayuda para el alcance de sus propósitos. Métodos: se realizó una investigación de tipo descriptiva y transversal con el objetivo de determinar un sistema de acciones para alcanzar un pensamiento positivo (...) en los estudiantes universitarios desde diciembre de 2012 a julio de 2014. Se emplearon encuestas en el diagnóstico para identificar las necesidades sentidas de aprendizaje, el nivel de conocimientos sobre el tema y el estado actual de la población objeto de estudio, constituida por los 167 estudiantes del plan D de la Facultad Tecnología de la Salud de Camagüey. Se analizó la información a través del procesamiento de los datos. Se utilizaron también métodos del nivel teórico: análisis-síntesis, inducción-deducción y análisis documental. Se aplicó el consentimiento educado. Resultados: se mostró la necesidad de conocer sobre el tema y la certeza de que no muchos aplican el pensamiento positivo. Conclusiones: se reveló la necesidad de lograr una cultura de salud con la aplicación de acciones para el logro en los estudiantes del pensamiento positivo. Introduction: Nurturing positive thinking in human beings is a necessity and it's closely linked with their quality of life. University students face an important stage of their vital cycle. One of their goals is to achieve/attain a profession; that is why, to have an optimistic attitude can be of great help to reach this purpose. Methods: a descriptive and cross-sectional research was carried out in in order to determine a system of actions to develop positive thinking in university students from December 2012 to July 2014. Surveys were used in the diagnosis so as to identify the real learning necessities, the level of knowledge on the topic and the current status of the target population, which was composed by 167 students studying under curriculum D at the Health Technology School in Camagüey. The information was analyzed through the processing of data. Methods of the theoretical level were also used: analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction and documental analysis. Educated consent was obtained. Results: the necessity of knowing about this topic, as well as the certainty that not many students implement positive thinking were demonstrated. Conclusions: the necessity of acquiring knowledge on health topics was revealed through the application of actions to develop students` positive thinking. (shrink)

The quest for the one "Truth" in a pluralist society seems to have become as redundant as it is problematic - in much the same way that the idea of one "God" being the all-determining reality has. Yet we have not given up searching and the word "God" still continues to polarize, whether in society, theology or philosophy. In view of this seeming paradox, Friederike D. Rass seeks an alternative route that goes off the beaten track and beyond the temptation (...) to resignedly retreat to relativist or fundamentalist positions. She argues that it is precisely the supposedly futile quest for a single "Truth" as well as the continuous questioning of the meaning of the word "God" that provide an essential guide to responsible action today. En este artículo nos proponemos hacer una lectura de Tomás Carrasquilla desde el nacionalismo y el regionalismo, con el objetivo de identificar en su pensamiento las ideas sobre la identidad nacional. Nos basaremos en los ensayos de crítica literaria llamados “Homilías”, publicados por Carrasquilla en 1906 en la revista Alpha, en donde, a través de una crítica a la influencia del modernismo europeo en los escritores de su generación, el autor antioqueño expuso una defensa de los elementos autóctonos o regionales (...) en la confección de una literatura nacional. Dicho propósito lo alcanzaremos a través de dos momentos: el primero, desde la exposición del férreo rechazo al modernismo que profesó Carrasquilla y, el segundo, mediante la definición de los conceptos medio ambiente, región y alma nacional. Concluiremos que en la proclamación de un 20 de julio literario Carrasquilla expone los rasgos de un pensamiento que oscila entre el regionalismo y el nacionalismo. Para esta búsqueda de las bases de la identidad nacional en Carrasquilla, nos apoyaremos en las definiciones canónicas de nacionalismo e identidad nacional de autores como Benedict Anderson, Ernest Gellner, Anthony D. Smith, Claudio Lomnitz y Gilberto Freyre. Finalmente, en términos metodológicos, este trabajo se desarrollará como una investigación de tipo documental y de nivel interpretativo. (shrink)

L'oeuvre d'art sur laquelle " philosophe " Olivier Revault d'Allonnes n'est pas l'oeuvre achevee, celebree, sacralisee, sanctifiee, mais au contraire l'oeuvre qui, de tout temps, deroute, irrite, scandalise, dejoue le discours apprete et conciliant de l'esthetique traditionnelle. Le concept est l'autre nom de la critique, parole enfin donnee aux oeuvres, passees et presentes, afin qu'elles puissent dire non aux ordres etablis... Leur interpretation se (...) joue donc a l'infini, mais non pas dans l'indetermination, car ce qu'elles expriment, qu'il s'agisse d'un tableau de Rembrandt, d'un quatuor de Beethoven, ou d'une piece pour piano de Schonberg, est chaque fois identique, a savoir l'irreductible et " irrespectueuse " liberte de la creation artistique. Cette esthetique, a l'ecart des dogmatismes, des systemes et des modes, est ici pretexte aux reflexions et aux temoignages qui composent cet ouvrage. (shrink)

Le traité Περὶ θείων ὀνομάτων de l’élève de Proclus dissimulé sous le nom de ‘Denys l’Aréopagite’— traité qui a été récemment édité en qualité de premier titre de la série Corpus Dionysiacum— est subdivisé en deux grandes parties par un excursus fameux sur le problème de la substantialité des maux. Dans la première partie, contenant les chapitres I-III, l’auteur discute la possibilité des prédications dont l’objet est le premier principe. Dans la deuxième, contenant les chapitres V-XIII, il en présente les (...) ‘noms’. Les deux parties sont séparées par le long excursus sur la nature du mal, qui forme l’objet du chapitre IV. Ce dernier s’ouvre, il est vrai, sur le propos d’examiner la dénomination de ‘Bien’ attribuée au premier principe , si bien que l’on rangerait volontiers ce chapitre dans la deuxième partie, consacrée à la présentation des ‘noms’ de Dieu et à leur commentaire. Il se trouve pourtant que l’auteur a explicitement placé la charnière principale de son traité après l’excursus sur la nature du mal. Au début du chapitre V, en effet, il déclare aborder la question de l’οὑσιωνυμία divine, en démontrant par là concevoir le ‘Bien’ comme une dénomination différente de toute autre, voire antérieure à tous les noms qui sont en relation avec l’οὑσία, et dont l’examen occupe les chapitres V-XIII. XLRI, in association with a few Tata Group companies, established the XLRI-JRD Tata Foundation in Business Ethics in 1991 to mark their long-standing commitment and contribution to business ethics in India. The foundation seeks to address this by publicly affirming the urgent need for ethics in business and the need to bring about a conducive culture in which it can thrive.

In this paper we investigate AGM belief contraction operators by using the tools of algebraic logic. We generalize the notion of contraction to arbitrary finitary propositional logics, and we show how to switch from a syntactic-based approach to a semantic one. This allows to build a solid bridge between the validity of AGM postulates in a propositional logic and specific algebraic properties of its intended algebraic counterpart. Such a connection deserves particular attention when we deal with maxichoice contractions, as studied (...) in the final part of the paper. (shrink)
