    ‘The Logic of Place’ and Common Sense.Nakamura Yūjirō & John W. M. Krummel - 2015 - Social Imaginaries 1 (1):83-103.
The essay is a written version of a talk Nakamura Yūjirō gave at the College international de philosophie in Paris in 1983. In the talk Nakamura connects the issue of common sense in his own work to that of place in Nishida Kitarō and the creative imagination in Miki Kiyoshi. He presents this connection between the notions of common sense, imagination, and place as constituting one important thread in contemporary Japanese philosophy. He begins by discussing the significance of (...)

参照構造を持つ Xml 上の高速な到達可能性判定.Maita Tetsuya Nakamura Yusaku - 2007 - Transactions of the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence 22 (2):191-199.
We propose an efficient algorithm for deciding the reachability between any nodes on XML data represented by connected directed graphs. We develop a technique to reduce the size of the reference table for the reachability test. Using the small table and the standard range labeling method for rooted ordered trees, we show that our algorithm answers almost queries in a constant time preserving the space efficiency and a reasonable preprocessing time.

Die Phänomenologie des Unbewussten als Grenzproblem bei Husserl.Takuya Nakamura - 2019 - Phänomenologische Forschungen 2019 (1):99-115.
In this paper, I attempt to elucidate Husserl’s later phenomenological approach to the unconscious as a limit problem of phenomenology. Husserl had encountered the kind of problem as the unconscious earlier on and it continued to come up throughout his work. There are references to the unconscious in Ideas II and in the Analyses Concerning Passive Synthesis, and even in early lectures. Nonetheless, the unconscious as a severe problem of Husserl’s phenomenology emerged only in his mature phase. In this paper, (...)

  11. Comparative Study of the Notion of History in China, India and Japan.Hajime Nakamura - 1963 - Diogenes 11 (42):44-59.
The East has not been a cultural unit as a whole. In the East there have been several cultural areas, the most important of which must have been those centering in India and in China. Japan has a peculiar and unique significance of her own in comparison with these two.The notion of history differs greatly according to these cultural areas. We shall discuss them one by one.

L2 Learners Do Not Ignore Verb’s Subcategorization Information in Real-Time Syntactic Processing.Chie Nakamura, Manabu Arai, Yuki Hirose & Suzanne Flynn - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
This study addressed the question of whether L2 learners are able to utilize verb’s argument structure information in online structural analysis. Previous L2 research has shown that L2 learners have difficulty in using verb’s intransitive information to guide online syntactic processing. This is true even though L2 learners have grammatical knowledge that is correct and similar to that of native speakers. In the present study, we contrasted three hypotheses, the initial inaccessibility account, the intransitivity overriding account, and the fuzzy subcategorization (...)

When do Physicians and Nurses Start Communication about Advance Care Planning? A Qualitative Study at an Acute Care Hospital in Japan.Mari Tsuruwaka, Yoshiko Ikeguchi & Megumi Nakamura - 2020 - Asian Bioethics Review 12 (3):289-305.
Although advance care planning can lead to more patient-centered care, the communication around it can be challenging in acute care hospitals, where saving a life or shortening hospitalization is important priorities. Our qualitative study in an acute care hospital in Japan revealed when specifically physicians and nurses start communication to facilitate ACP. Seven physicians and 19 nurses responded to an interview request, explaining when ACP communication was initiated with 32 patients aged 65 or older. Our qualitative approach employed descriptive analysis (...)

A history of early Vedānta philosophy.Hajime Nakamura - 1983 - Delhi: Motilal Banarsidass. Edited by Trevor Leggett.
The history of the Vedanta school is well known since the time of Sankaracarya on, and its prehistory before Sankara is quite obscure. However, from the time of compilation of major Upanisads to Sankara there is a period of thousand years, and the tradition of Upanisads was not lost; there appeared many philosophers and dogmaticians, although their thoughts are not clearly known. The author has made clear the details of the pre-Sankara Vedanta philosophy, utilizing not only Sanskrit materials, but also (...)

Is Corporate Social Responsibility in Japanese Firms at the Theoretically Derived Achievable Level? An Analysis of CSR Inefficiency Using a Stochastic Frontier Model.Eri Nakamura - 2016 - Business and Society Review 121 (2):271-295.
The purposes of this study are to investigate whether current corporate social responsibility (CSR) is at the theoretically derived achievable level (hereinafter referred to simply as achievable level), to introduce “CSR inefficiency” as the difference between actual and achievable levels of CSR, and to specify its determinants. We established that the achievable level of CSR activity is determined by a range of keiretsu group, government, sector, and resource factors, and choosing specific activities can affect the priority levels of social contributions. Compassion As an Intervention to Attune to Universal Suffering of Self and Others in Conflicts: A Translational Framework.S. Shaun Ho, Yoshio Nakamura & James E. Swain - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
As interpersonal, racial, social, and international conflicts intensify in the world, it is important to safeguard the mental health of individuals affected by them. According to a Buddhist notion “if you want others to be happy, practice compassion; if you want to be happy, practice compassion,” compassion practice is an intervention to cultivate conflict-proof well-being. Here, compassion practice refers to a form of concentrated meditation wherein a practitioner attunes to friend, enemy, and someone in between, thinking, “I’m going to help (...)

Nuclear denial in Japan: the network power of an energy industrial complex.Michael C. Dreiling, Tomoyasu Nakamura & Yvonne A. Braun - 2024 - Theory and Society 53 (1):1-39.
Given the known hazards of nuclear energy in seismically active Japan after the Fukushima meltdowns as well as the presence of viable conservation and renewable energy options, the question of Japan’s stalled energy transition warrants critical interrogation. To better understand why, after Fukushima, Japan’s energy policy trajectory maintained the nuclear status quo and an increased reliance on fossil fuels, this article employs network and historical analyses to examine the confluence of post-Fukushima political forces connected to Japan’s nuclear energy sector. Our (...)
