Choreographies of the Living explores the shift from viewing art as an exclusively human undertaking to recognizing it as an activity that all living creatures enact. Carrie Rohman's bioaesthetic framework describes how art-making binds us to other animals in literature, visual art, dance, and performance.

Although AI technologies reportedly can address accessibility issues and the risks have been documented, debates around AI have left developing countries and people with disabilities (PwDs) behind. Despite the global marketization of AI technologies, the understanding of AI and disability in developing countries in the Global South remains scant. Through semi-structured interviews with key personnel of disabled people organizations in Indonesia and Vietnam, this study found that a pocket of the disabled viewed AI as formidable but foreign because of the (...) persistent information void within the disabled community. AI potentially magnifies the existing bias against the disabled, but their unique features and lived experiences are irreplaceable by AI. The findings seek attention from developers, activists, and policy makers in emerging markets as the benefits of AI have reached wider audiences but PwDs and the risks of AI–human interactions to them have been narrowly discussed in Southeast Asia (SEA). This article deals with the establishment of the Pojok Moderasi Beragama at the Indonesian School in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as part of its efforts to promote religious moderation among the Indonesian diaspora in the region. The initiative is driven by concerns over the vulnerability of the diaspora community to radical Islamic ideologies, such as Wahhabism and other transnational Islamic movements prevalent in the Middle East. As such, the establishment of the Pojok Moderasi Beragama at the Indonesian School in Riyadh represents (...) a strategic preventive measure. Employing an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, this article explores the implementation of “moderate” programs aimed at establishing the Pojok Moderasi Beragama. Initially, all teachers underwent comprehensive training to enhance their understanding of religious moderation and its practical application in the school setting. Simultaneously, mentoring activities facilitated the gradual development of religious moderation, ultimately leading to the creation of the Pojok Moderasi Beragama by leveraging the school’s existing assets. This article argues that teachers have significantly improved their understanding of religious moderation, encompassing pluralism, tolerance, and interfaith dialogue. Furthermore, it captures the progressive development of the Pojok Moderasi Beragama, which effectively utilizes the school’s resources, including the library, school website, and social media platforms. ABSTRAK Dalam artikel ini akan diulas mengenai akar kata worldview dan maknanya, baik dari sisi filsuf Barat, teolog Kristen, maupun ulama’ Islam. Worldview adalah pandangan hidup atau filsafat hidup yang dimiliki setiap orang, juga berupa keyakinan yang mendasar dan berimplikasi terhadap pikiran dan cara pandang seseorang terhadap sesuatu. Artikel ini berjenis kajian kepustakaan dimana data-datanya diambil dari beberapa buku terkait worldview. Metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif-analisis penulis terapkan dalam penelitian ini. Data-data yang telah diperoleh dan dianalisa oleh penulis kemudian akan (...) dikomparasikan antara satu sama lain. Hasil penelitian ini adalah bahwa filsuf Barat, teolog Kristen, dan ulama’ Islam memiliki pandangan berbeda terkait worldview yang dipicu oleh perbedaan sumber epistemologinya. Barat dan Kristen meletakan akal sebagai sumber dalam menentukan worldview. Sehingga worldview Barat dan Kristen berubah-ubah, karena setiap akal pikiran seseorang berbeda-beda dan dapat berubah-ubah. Ini berbeda dengan makna worldview dalam Islam yang bersumber dari wahyu Ilahi. Worldview Islam bersifat absolut, karena wahyu Ilahi yang diturunkan bukan hasil produk akal pikiran manusia, akan tetapi merupakan petunjuk langsung dari Allah. Islam tidak hanya berbicara tentang apa yang nampak saja akan tetapi juga yang tidak nampak. Sedangkan Barat dan Kristen hanya membahas yang nampak oleh panca indera. This essay analyses how Virginia Woolf's critically under-examined children's story about Nurse Lugton connects the becoming-artistic of writing to animal becomings. Examining the links between creativity and the other-than-human via Gilles Deleuze and Elizabeth Grosz, I claim that the ‘animation’ of the stitched animal figures on Nurse Lugton's ‘canvas’ reveals that art is the enlivenment of vibratory and affective qualities, as opposed to a monumentalising of symbols or concepts. Moreover, the curtain in Woolf's story should be read as creative materiality (...) itself, its folds participating in the self-varying dynamism of the virtual and actual. My analysis of the two published versions of the story, and their accompanying illustrations, outlines an affirmative bio-poetics at the heart of Woolf's aesthetic project and suggests that Woolf's creative sources are embedded in inhuman, biological forces. The study assessed the role of childhood religiosity in adult religiosity and learning motivation in university participants. Participants were 338 university students (mean age = 20.42, SD = 1.53, 47% men) selected from Islamic (50%) and general universities (50%). The findings showed that participants from Islamic university compared to those from general universities scored higher on religious altruism among religiosity outcomes and on self-efficacy and active learning strategies among learning motivation outcomes. The hypothesized associations between childhood religiosity, religious altruism, religious (...) practice, and specific learning motivation outcomes were significant. Childhood religiosity predicted two learning motivation outcomes, self-efficacy and active learning strategies, and only religious altruism in the presence of religious practice mediated these associations. In addition, university status moderated these mediated associations with stronger indirect effects for participants from Islamic universities compared to those from general universities. (shrink)

This research aims to identify and elaborate on the philosophical issues inherent in the concept of the Profil Pelajar Pancasila (Pancasila Student Profile) as the epitome of human idealism in Pancasila intended for implementation through educational means in Indonesia. This matter holds significance for examination due to the Pancasila Student Profile serving as the ultimate destination or objective of the complete educational system in Indonesia. Philosophical scrutiny of this concept is imperative to ensure alignment between the Pancasila Student Profile and (...) the notion of the Indonesian ideal individual in line with Pancasila’s principles. This investigation adopts a qualitative method to delve into philosophical quandaries within this domain. The data utilized in this research comprises literary works addressing the Pancasila Student Profile, which are then philosophically scrutinized based on four key attributes: radical, critical, systematic, and comprehensive. The findings of this study reveal a philosophical dilemma within the Pancasila Student concept, specifically the underrepresentation of two vital dimensions of human nature in Pancasila, namely materiality and individuality. Consequently, it is recommended that a reassessment and restructuring of the Pancasila Student Profile concept be undertaken to ensure the realization of the ideal human archetype of Pancasila without straying from the educational objectives outlined in Law No. 20 of 2003 regarding the National Education System. Markomanske vojne so bile največji in najobsežnejši oboroženi spo­pad rimske vojske in barbarskih plemen ob osrednjem Podonavju – Markomanov, Kvadov in Sarmatov skupaj s še drugimi plemeni. Vojne z germanskimi plemeni so svoje prve kali kazale že v obdobju Antonina Pija, miroljubnega predhodnika Marka Avrelija, ki je težnje uzurpatorjev skrbno umirjal s konsistentnim pacifizmom. V Panonijo so prihajala poslanstva germanskih kraljevin izza Donave, ki so vznemirjala z vestmi o premikih barbarskih ljudstev s severa. Trgovanje barbarskih ljudstev z rimskimi državljani (...) na mejah rimske države in migracije v germanskem bazenu plemen so v pasu ob limesu predstavljali težnje le-teh po dodatnem habitatu znotraj imperija. Apijan piše, da so poslanstva teh plemen prišla celo v Rim k cesarju Antoninu Piju in ga prosila za sprejem v imperij. Kontinuirani pritiski so eskalirali najverjetneje v l. 166, ko je bil velik del rimske garnizije stacioniran na vzhodni meji v boju s Parti. Limes je bil v tem obdobju slabo zavarovan, saj so bile čete legij, stacioniranih od Rena do Donave, poslane na fronto s Parti. Kljub prizadevanju cesarskih namestnikov v obeh Panonijah, da bi preprečili izbruh vojne na utrjeni državni meji z Donavo, je barbarom uspel preboj čez limes in posledično prodor vse do Akvileje in Opitergija. Boleča zavest o ranljivosti Italije, ki jo je avgustejski mir (Pax Romana) uspaval za več rodov, je prinesla nagel zasuk v obrambi. Pričujoče besedilo pretresa dva glavna vira za dogodke med germansko-sarmatsko vojno in postavlja vprašanja o odsotnosti omemb pomembnega obrambnega sistema, t.i. »Pre­tenture Italije in Alp«. Advancing theories of literature and animality requires both recognizing the failures of traditional humanist models that separate and elevate people over all "things" animal as well as identifying and developing alternative forms. Along with providing fresh readings and important insights about representative texts in the literary canon, two new books—Carrie Rohman's Stalking the Subject: Modernism and the Animal and Philip Armstrong's What Animals Mean in the Fiction of Modernity —illustrate how this challenge is being addressed. Strategically, Rohman works (...) within established textual forms of modern humanity to expand the parameters of who counts as a subject in literature. Armstrong takes a more tactical approach, extending ideas of nonhuman agency in order to frame this very discourse of representation itself as a problem that modern narrative forms bring to a crisis. What thus emerges is a range of textual actions and actors that exceed traditional humanist calculations of the subject. Together these studies frame questions with broader implications for humanistic scholarship: how do textual forms of subjectivity, even of discourse, become historical, and historically flexible, through animal involvements in literary representations?
