Language‟s definition varies in the literature. One of the most accurate definitions of language is that the language is the voice through which people express their purpose, it is a tool for communication, understanding and interaction between people, and this is a phenomenon that reflects human knowledge and culture. At the same time, it is a powerful factor that animates people and helps them to develop and thrive. The beauty of the language is reflected in examples of poetry and prose (...) of folk literature. It is one of the most famous and widely spoken languages in the world. Arabic is the language of science and culture and helps to transmit religious, scientific and literary knowledge throughout history. There is no doubt that Arabic literature emphasizes the beauty of the Arabic language from preIslamic times to the present day. Arabic literature attracts the attention of the whole world, both ancient and modern. One of the countries where the Arabic language and its literature is taught is Azerbaijan. There are universities and institutes that contain faculties of Arabic literature and its departments. One of the scientific institutions that study the Arabic literature is the Institute of Oriental Studies named after Ziya Bunyadov of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. It should be noted that the most important results of scientific research and books of the Institute are used in educational institutions within the country and abroad. (shrink)

Henry David Thoreau’s defense of John Brown has been interpreted as an inconsistency in his political philosophy. Since Thoreau was best known for his commitment to civil disobedience, his critics argued that his support for Brown constitutes a break in Thoreau’s political thought. However, I argue that "A Plea for John Brown" should be seen as a radicalization of Thoreau’s transcendental politics rather than an inconsistency in his writings. To understand this decade-long process of radicalization requires an analysis of Thoreau’s (...) four main essays from "Resistance to Civil Government" in 1849 to "The Last Days of John Brown" in 1860. I argue that Azerbaijani universities are a façade masking an ulterior motive. I examine the difficult relationship between authoritarian power and the university in Azerbaijan through the study of coercive policies put in place by university administrators preventing free thought and hampering the freedom of academics. My central thesis is that the university is a place where researchers should be able to teach and conduct their research freely, without any hindrance from their administrators. However, in authoritarian countries, such as Azerbaijan, (...) academic freedom suffers from regular interference and restrictions on the part of those administrators who, arguably due to the nature of the regime, assume that academics are not supposed to criticize the society, politics or universities in which they work. These administrators, who are often academics themselves, mistakenly believe that university priorities should be at the service of the regime at the expense of knowledge. I submit that the rigid discipline of Azerbaijani universities and the unfree relationship between high-ranking administrators and scholars – a relationship based on the domination of the former over the latter – do not only stymie academic discussions and development, but also squelch the liberty and creativity of scholars. Some argue that republican freedom is impossible because since it is always possible that a person or a group of persons possesses arbitrary power to interfere with individuals, no one is free to do anything. To avoid this challenge, in their recent article, Sean Ingham and Frank Lovett invoke the notion of ignorability in terms of which they offer a moderate interpretation of republican freedom. On their view, B is free from A to φ if A’s possible types who prefer (...) to intervene with B’s φ-ing are ignorable. They also try to show that freedom is not determined by the probability of an intervention. However, we argue that they fail to do this and that freedom as non-domination is not entailed by ignorability. (shrink)

In the article the issue of singling out some systemic criteria of differentiation between the fundamental and applied terminologies is considered. The authors point at the fact that each terminology has its own individual peculiarities, which mark it out against a general background of the terminological fund of a certain language. It is asserted that one of the most important and effective criteria that can be the basis of the approach to the study of sublanguages for special purposes is a (...) fundamental or applied character of the sphere of professional or scientific knowledge verbalized by a certain terminology. Such terms, as ‘fundamental terminology‘, ‘applied terminology‘ and ‘terminology of transition type‘, are introduced for scientific use. The fundamental terminology is understood as a sublanguage for special purposes that verbalizes the notions, forming the totality of fundamental knowledge, serving for the description of phenomena and processes in reality and in science, in the framework of which the fundamental research is carried out. The applied terminology is the name for the sublanguage for special purposes representing the notions, in which the results of human being’s practical scientific-industrial activity for changing the reality, forming the artificial habitat, are conceptualized. The terminology of transition type is the terminology that verbalizes the fragments of the field of scientific knowledge in which the research can have both a fundamental and applied character. The authors come to the conclusion that pure applied or fundamental terminologies are quite rare, that it is rational to speak about the degree of manifestation of the applied or fundamental character within the limits of this or that terminological system. We argue that while the new opposition in Azerbaijan between 2005 and 2013 did not realize all the goals set, it influenced a new generation of young activists who became the loudest supporters of democratic and secular values in Azerbaijan. This grassroots activation of the youth brought noticeable changes to some parts of Azerbaijani society by questioning the authority of traditional values. Many young people, especially students found a platform to discuss their problems concerning everyday basic issues such as intimate (...) relationships as well as their freedom to live in accordance with their personal choices and desires without the family interference in the light of theoretical questions such as the importance of liberal democratic values, individual liberties, and the rule of law. The successfully established connections between material problems and transcendental ideals encouraged some young people to participate in the open discussions and seminars organized by the new opposition. Because of the emergence of this new generation of active youth, the government was forced to incorporate some elements of this new discourse at least by making some cosmetic changes within its structures. The government became successful in its attempts of weakening the new opposition by hijacking its ideas and creating similar but pro-government organizations; neutralizing or buying some well-known opposition figures such as writers and journalists; and finally, persecuting the leading members of the youth organizations. Bu çalışma ilkin, ütopyacı düşünceye karşı istikrarlı bir muhalefet yürüten liberal düşüncenin sağ kanadındaki Karl Popper ve Francis Fukuyama gibi kanonik isimlerin yaklaşımlarının, zamanın sosyo-ekonomik gelişmelerinin katkısıyla genel siyaset düşüncesinin ana akımına bürünmesi sürecini ve ütopyaya ilişkin fikirlerini değerlendirecektir. Bir kez müesses nizam haline geldiği vakit menşeindeki ütopyacı niteliklerin hilafına değişimin ancak tedricen olması gerektiğini ve aksini savunan siyasal tavır alışların da yersiz radikalizmle malul siyaset dışı yönelimler olduğunu iddia eden ana akım liberal çizginin savunucuları olarak Popper ve Fukuyama, (...) bu çizgilerini radikal bir antikomünizmle taçlandırmışlardır. Aynı çizgide bu kez liberal düşüncenin sol cenahındaki sol-sosyalist fikri inkişaf döneminin ürünü çaplı toplumsal değişim taleplerini, radikal diye tabir ederek neredeyse affedilmez birer kusur gibi kabul eden kimi sol liberal feminist yaklaşımlar ile yenilginin sözde faturasını bu radikalizme keserek siyasal faaliyetini melankolik bir yazıklanmanın ötesine geçiremeyen birtakım liberal sol tavırların bu süreçteki rolü tartışılacaktır. Sonuç itibarıyla bu çalışma, çoğunlukla itham biçiminde zikredilen ütopyacılık tabirini, bu menfi kullanımın nesnesi olmaktan kurtarmak için alternatif ve daha iyi bir yaşama dair yolların çeşitlenmesinin önemli bir başlangıç noktası olarak bir paye gibi kabullenip sahiplenen Ernst Bloch’un umut mefhumu üzerinden yepyeni bir ontolojik ve epistemolojik inşaya tabi tutarak, ütopyacılığın bir tür iade-i itibarına odaklanacaktır. Thomas Aquinas Orta Çağın en üretken filozoflarından biridir ve onun felsefi görüşleri kendi döneminin yanı sıra birçok çağdaş düşünürü de etkilemiştir. Aquinas’ın düşünce erdemleri ve ahlak erdemleri konusundaki görüşlerinin Aristotelesçi temelleri sıklıkla tartışılmasına karşın ilahi erdemler sınıfında yer verdiği erdemlerin incelenmesi göz ardı edilmiştir. Çağdaş erdem tartışmalarında kural temelli erdem anlayışını savunanlar Aquinas’ı kaynak göstermezler. Oysa bu çalışmada göstereceğimiz gibi, kural temelli erdem yaklaşımının en açık, ayrıntılı ve tutarlı biçimini Aquinas’ta görmekteyiz. Çalışmada ilkin Aquinas’ta erdemin özü, tanımı ve nedenleri (...) incelenerek genel eylem kuramı çerçevesinde ahlaki eylem olarak erdemin ortaya çıkışı gösterilecektir. İkinci olarak, düşünce ve ahlak erdemleri ile ilahi erdemlerin kaynağı ortaya konacaktır. Bu inceleme ile Aquinas’ın erdem anlayışının Aristoteles’in anlayışından farkı ortaya konarak kural temelli erdem anlayışının temelleri gösterilecektir. (shrink)

Klasik İslam siyaset geleneği üzerine inceleme yapmak için bu geleneği siyasetin temellendirilmesi ve siyasal olanın merkezi ve en yüce değerini ele alarak başlamak pek çok başka çalışmaya ön ayak olması bakımından büyük bir önemi haizdir. Martin Heidegger’e göre temel ve en yüce değere dair bir soruşturma metafizikten başka bir şey değildir ve bu sebeple metafizik onto-teolojidir. Heiddegger’in düşünsel mirasından hareketle Jacques Derrida, onto-teolojinin bir mevcudiyet metafiziği olduğunu söylemekte ve bu metafiziğin temel argümanlarından hareketle kendini akamete uğrattığı durumları gösteren okuma stratejileri (...) – ki `yapıbozum´ olarak adlandırılmıştır. – ile metafiziğin olanaklarını incelemektedir. Bu çalışmada ilkin klasik İslam siyaset geleneğine ait siyasetnameler bu okuma stratejileri üzerinden ele alındığında geleneğin hükümdar-merkezli (monarchocentric) bir metafiziği olduğu ortaya konacaktır. Ardından hükümdarı merkeze alan bu söylemin merkezi yerinden ederek bağlamından çıkardıktan sonra onu yeni bir bağlama nasıl oturttuğu metinler üzerinden gösterilmeye çalışılacaktır. (shrink)

İbn Sînâ, sonrakilerden bazılarının kâide-i vâhid veya “bir kuralı” (BK) olarak adlandırdığı şeyin sıkı bir savunucusudur. BK’nın ana fikri şunu ifade etmektedir: Birden, doğrudan, yalnızca bir ortaya çıkar. İbn Sînâcı bu kuralın ikincil literatürdeki tartışması genellikle onun hususi bir uygulama alanı yani, sudûr meselesiyle sınırlıdır. Sonuç itibarıyla, BK’nın ne anlama geldiği ve İbn Sînâ’nın onu neden savunduğu kesin değildir. Bu yazıda ben bu meseleyi iki şey yaparak çözmeye çalışmaktayım: Bunlardan biri tasavvur, diğeri ise tasdik açısındandır. İlkin, sadece BK’nın terimlerinin, yani (...) onun özne ve yükleminin ne anlama geldiğini açıklamaktayım. Bunu yaparken, BK’nın dar ve geniş anlamları arasında ayırım yapmakta ve İbn Sînâcı bakış açısından BK’nın kapsamının geniş olduğunu; bunun ise BK’nın fail nedenliğin temel ilkesi olduğu anlamına geldiğini göstermekteyim. Bu sebepledir ki, farklı bağlamlarda önemli felsefî tezleri inşa etmede bu kurala başvurulmuştur. İkinci olarak, İbn Sînâ’nın el- Mübâhasât’ta BK’na dair sunduğu argümanı değerlendirmekteyim. Bu argümanı açıklarken onun bazı gerçekçi varsayımlarını ortaya çıkarmaktayım. Sonrasında, ilk olarak Behmenyâr tarafından öne sürülen ve daha sonrasında Fahreddin er-Râzî tarafından yaygınlaştırılan bir eleştiri ışığında bu meseleyi daha açık hale getirmekteyim. Devamında İbn Sînâ’nın, söz konusu argümanın öncülleri içerisinde, gündeme getirilen itirazları karşılayacak dayanaklarının olup olmadığına bakarak bir sonuca varmaktayım. (shrink)
