This is a summary and brief explanation of many of the key principles of the economic system called solidarism, developed by Fr. Heinrich Pesch, S.J. in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, which was explicitly grounded on Christian and traditional natural law principles.

Lonergan's Early Economic Research delves into the origins of Bernard Lonergan's economic theory through his own writing on the subject. Michael Shute provides transcriptions of many of Lonergan's private files on economics for a deeper understanding of his groundbreaking macroeconomic theory. An introduction by the editor contextualizes the works, which also serve as archival materials relevant to the companion volume Lonergan's Discovery of the Science of Economics. Organized around specific themes such as dialectic of history, methodology, economic history, and price (...) equilibrium, the book makes available a substantial amount of previously unpublished texts. Materials include Lonergan's earliest notes on economics prior to his move to Rome in 1933, the complete surviving portion of 'An Essay in Fundamental Sociology, ' and notes on economists Heinrich Pesch and Lionel Robbins, among others. These early works show that Lonergan built his economic discoveries on the methodological developments that he founded in his writings on the philosophy of history. (shrink)

Celem pracy jest wstępne przebadanie oddziaływania myśli Heinricha Pescha SJ (1854–1926), a w szczególności jego koncepcji solidaryzmu chrześcijańskiego, na kształtowanie się poglądów społeczno-ekonomicznych czołowych polskich myślicieli katolickich XX wieku. Podstawowy materiał źródłowy stanowiły kluczowe monografie, stanowiące podsumowanie poglądów autorów na zagadnienia społeczno-gospodarcze. Badanie uwzględniało aspekty ilościowe, ale koncentrowało się głównie na analizie logicznej oraz semantycznej tych fundamentalnych prac. W rezultacie wykazano znaczący wpływ idei Pescha, postrzeganego jako jeden z czołowych chrześcijańskich myślicieli społecznych oraz twórca solidaryzmu chrześcijańskiego, na prace autorów takich (...) jak ks. Antoni Roszkowski, Czesław Strzeszewski, Leopold Caro, a także ks. Jan Piwowarczyk. Poprzez analizę porównawczą prac ks. Piwowarczyka oraz Karola Wojtyły, poświęconych katolickiej etyce społecznej, poddano krytycznej ocenie recepcję solidaryzmu Pescha przez Karola Wojtyłę, dochodząc do nieoczywistych wniosków oraz rzucając dodatkowo światło na powiązania pomiędzy obydwu tekstami. Imagination has recently attracted considerable attention from epistemologists and is recognized as a source of belief and even knowledge. One remarkable feature of imagination is that it is often and typically agentive: agents decide to imagine. In cases in which imagination results in a belief, the agentiveness of imagination may be taken to give rise to indirect doxastic control and epistemic responsibility. This observation calls for a proper understanding of agentive imagination. In particular, it calls for the development of a (...) semantics of imagination ascriptions. In the present paper an earlier suggestion by Ilkka Niiniluoto for a logic of imagination is considered. This proposal does not capture the agentive nature of imagination, and an alternative semantics is suggested. The new semantics combines the modal logic of agency with the neighbourhood semantics from alethic modal logic. (shrink)

A version of strong negation is introduced into Categorial Grammar. The resulting syntactic calculi turn out to be systems of connexive logic.
