Prediction of the RFID Identification Rate Based on the Neighborhood Rough Set and Random Forest for Robot Application Scenarios.Hong-Gang Wang, Shan-Shan Wang, Ruo-Yu Pan, Sheng-Li Pang, Xiao-Song Liu, Zhi-Yong Luo & Sheng-Pei Zhou - 2020 - Complexity 2020:1-15.
With the rapid development of Internet of Things technology, RFID technology has been widely used in various fields. In order to optimize the RFID system hardware deployment strategy and improve the deployment efficiency, the prediction of the RFID system identification rate has become a new challenge. In this paper, a neighborhood rough set and random forest combination model is proposed to predict the identification rate of an RFID system. Firstly, the initial influencing factors of the RFID system identification rate are (...)

Engagement Mediates the Relationship Between Emotion and Achievement of Chinese EFL Learners.Enhao Feng & Gang Hong - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
Since the coming of Positive Psychology in the field of second language acquisition, the significance of emotion, especially positive emotion, has been well recognized by researchers. Educational research has indicated that both emotion and engagement play fundamental roles in learning process and psychological wellbeing, but research on their relationship is scant in SLA. The present study contributed to the development of Positive Psychology in SLA by investigating the relationships between achievement emotions, behavioral engagement, and self-reported English achievements. 633 students from (...)

The effect of simultaneous exposure on the attention selection and integration of segments and lexical tones by Urdu-Cantonese bilingual speakers.Jinghong Ning, Gang Peng, Yi Liu & Yingnan Li - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
In the perceptual learning of lexical tones, an automatic and robust attention-to-phonology system enables native tonal listeners to adapt to acoustically non-optimal speech, such as phonetic conflicts in daily communications. Previous tone research reveals that non-native listeners who do not linguistically employ lexical tones in their mother tongue may find it challenging to attend to the tonal dimension or integrate it with the segmental features. However, it is unknown whether the attentional interference initially caused by a maternal attentional system would (...)

Combining Conformist and Payoff Bias in Cultural Evolution.Ze Hong - 2022 - Human Nature 33 (4):463-484.
Most research on transmission biases in cultural evolution has treated different biases as distinct strategies. Here I present a model that combines both frequency dependent bias (including conformist bias) and payoff bias in a single decision-making calculus and show that such an integrated learning strategy may be superior to relying on either bias alone. Natural selection may operate on humans’ relative dependence on frequency and payoff information, but both are likely to contribute to the spread of variants with high payoffs. (...)

    More than a bystander: RNAs specify multifaceted behaviors of liquid‐liquid phase‐separated biomolecular condensates.Hui Zheng & Hong Zhang - 2024 - Bioessays 46 (3):2300203.
Cells contain a myriad of membraneless ribonucleoprotein (RNP) condensates with distinct compositions of proteins and RNAs. RNP condensates participate in different cellular activities, including RNA storage, mRNA translation or decay, stress response, etc. RNP condensates are assembled via liquid‐liquid phase separation (LLPS) driven by multivalent interactions. Transition of RNP condensates into bodies with abnormal material properties, such as solid‐like amyloid structures, is associated with the pathogenesis of various diseases. In this review, we focus on how RNAs regulate multiple aspects of (...)

Evaluating the individual, situational, and technological drivers for creative ideas generation in virtual communities: A systematic literature review.Xin Zhao, Chunzhen Wang & Jianzhong Hong - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 13.
The setting in which people generate ideas and work collaboratively to solve problems is gradually shifting from traditional face-to-face communities to virtual communities. Virtual communities are, therefore, becoming a new source of creative ideas. Nevertheless, online creativity is not without challenges. The main obstacle seems to be a lack of active engagement from participants within these virtual communities, resulting in a low quality and quantity of creative content when compared to traditional methods of creation. Research suggests that successfully generating creative (...)

We searched PubMed, the Cochrane Library and Embase for observational studies on risk factors for delirium after TJA. Review Manager 5.3 was used to calculate the relative risk or standard mean difference of potential risk factors related to TJA. STATA 14.0 was used for quantitative (...)

The life and production of the peasants in Huizhou from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China: The analysis based on 5 day-to-day accounts in Wuyuan County.Huang Zhifan & Shao Hong - 2009 - Frontiers of Philosophy in China 4 (3):460-469.
The Pairizhang (day-to-day accounts) found in Huizhou were mostly written by the pupils in old-style private school. They seem similar to a dairy in some way with the activities of family members (mostly male) as the main contents. However, they differ from modern diaries in many ways. It was a common practice in Wuyuan County to keep day-to-day accounts in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. By analyzing the 5 accounts found there, many underlying facts can be (...)

Exploring Product Design Innovation through Repair Techniques: Insights from Knowledge and Experience.Ju-Joan Wong & Hong-Wei Huang - forthcoming - Evolutionary Studies in Imaginative Culture:96-105.
Repair has been a longstanding activity in human society. However, in modern times, the production strategy of “planned obsolescence” has led to a decline in product quality and lifespan, resulting in closed and non-repairable products. Additionally, advertising manipulates consumers' desires, leading them to prefer replacing old items with new ones rather than repairing them. This has resulted in issues such as overconsumption, massive waste, and recycling challenges. Nevertheless, many DIY repair enthusiasts promote repair activities through communities and online media, highlighting (...)

Unfaithful offspring? Technologies and their trajectories.Sungook Hong - 1998 - Perspectives on Science 6 (3):259-287.
: Several recent studies in science and technology studies (STS), and in the history of science and technology, have highlighted the stochastic and uncontrollable nature of technological trajectory. In this paper I will examine three technologies--the Triode, the numerically controlled (NC) machine tool, and the Internet--each of which reflects a different aspect of technological uncertainty. I will argue that the Triode's seemingly unpredictable evolution is partly caused by limitations in our present historical knowledge about it. The NC machine's mysteriously unpredictable (...)
