Acknowledging separable factors underlying negative symptoms may lead to better understanding and treatment of negative symptoms in individuals with schizophrenia. The current study aimed to test whether the negative symptoms factor (NSF) of the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) would be better represented by expressive and experiential deficit factors, rather than by a single factor model, using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Two hundred and twenty individuals with schizophrenia spectrum disorders completed the PANSS; subsamples additionally completed the Brief Negative Symptom (...) Scale (BNSS) and the Motivation and Pleasure Scale—Self-Report (MAP-SR). CFA results indicated that the two-factor model fit the data better than the one-factor model; however, latent variables were closely correlated. The two-factor model’s fit was significantly improved by accounting for correlated residuals between N2 (emotional withdrawal) and N6 (lack of spontaneity and flow of conversation), and between N4 (passive social withdrawal) and G16 (active social avoidance), possibly reflecting common method variance. The two NSF factors exhibited differential patterns of correlation with subdomains of the BNSS and MAP-SR. These results suggest that the PANSS NSF would be better represented by a two-factor model than by a single-factor one, and support the two-factor model’s adequate criterion-related validity. Common method variance among several items may be a potential source of measurement error under a two-factor model of the PANSS NSF. (shrink)

Spinoza expounds the doctrine of self-preservation (conatus) in such a profound way that suicide seems incomprehensible. However, this affirmation contrasts with the frequent references to suicidal acts in his works. To address this contrast and thus support the compatibility between suicide and conatus, I refer to a new reading of Proposition 5 of Ethics III on contrariety. I reveal the complexity of every individual, the existence of conflictuality between their parts and the conatus of each part, which, depending on relationships (...) with external things, enjoys a degree of independence from the conatus of the individual as a whole. 이 글에서 나는 스피노자 『신학정치론』의 히브리 신정 분석이 알튀세르의 이데올로기론에 어떻게 활용되는지를 다룬다. 이는 단지 알튀세르의 이데올로기론의 원천이 스피노자임을 밝히기 위해서라기보다, 알튀세르가 이 사례를 부분적으로만 활용하면서 스피노자 분석의 핵심 중 하나를 누락시키기 때문이다. 나는 스피노자의 히브리 신정 분석이 알튀세르의 이데올로기적 국가장치 개념을 예증하는 탁월한 사례라는 것, 그러나 스피노자의 분석에서 호명은 개인보다는 대중에 대해, 그리고 대중의 감정을 통해 이루어지며, 마찬가지로 대중 감정의 메커니즘에 의해 작동을 멈출 수도 있다는 것을 보여준다. 이를 통해 알튀세르가 이 사례를 철저하게 활용했더라면 그의 이데올로기론에 가해지는 주된 비판인 (...) 기능론의 혐의에서 벗어날 수도 있었음을 주장하고자 한다. The role of nursing faculty members in charge of ethics education is important. Although all nursing students receive the same bioethics education, their experiences differ, related to ethical qualification, which depends on the personal socialization process. This Korean study aimed to provide nursing faculty members with the basic data to help them develop as bioethics experts and provide nursing students with knowledge to improve their ethical decision-making abilities. We used a survey design to assess recognition of bioethical issues and ethical (...) qualification in nursing students and faculty members. A total of 1225 undergraduate students and 140 faculty members participated in this study. The results revealed that nursing students and nursing faculty members generally understood the seriousness of various bioethical issues and both considered the most serious issue to concern abortion. Ethical behavior can be improved by education, and accordingly, nursing ethics should be a mandatory subject, rather than an elective one. (shrink)
