In this contribution, the author engages in a conversation with Christopher Southgate on the relationship between social evil and what is called natural “evil.” Theologically, this centers around an understanding of creation and fall. It is argued that Southgate typically treats soteriology and eschatology as themes pertaining to an evolutionary theodicy, whereas an adequate ecotheology would discuss the problem of natural suffering under the rubric of the narrative of God's economy. The question is then how that story is best told.

A formulation of Full Lambek Calculus in the framework of natural deduction is given.

The paper introduces a new type of rules into Natural Deduction, elimination rules by composition. Elimination rules by composition replace usual elimination rules in the style of disjunction elimination and give a more direct treatment of additive disjunction, multiplicative conjunction, existence quantifier and possibility modality. Elimination rules by composition have an enormous impact on proof-structures of deductions: they do not produce segments, deduction trees remain binary branching, there is no vacuous discharge, there is only few need of permutations. This new (...) type of rules fits especially to substructural issues, so it is shown for Lambek Calculus, i.e. intuitionistic non-commutative linear logic and to its extensions by structural rules like permutation, weakening and contraction. Natural deduction formulated with elimination rules by composition from a complexity perspective is superior to other calculi. (shrink)

Primero: que la acción depende de mi voluntad no es libertad de voluntad, sino de acción, Segundo: recientemente se ha mostrado en la fisiología cerebral que cada vez que uno quiere mover (...) su mano, este acto de la voluntad es anticipado una fracción de segundo por un movimiento en el cerebro. Pero aún si eso no fuera así, tendríamos que suponer que el acto de la voluntad está determinado por antecedentes sicológicos, 'la que la alternativa sería que la persona produce el acto de voluntad mágicamente desde la nada. "El ente se dice en varios significados". Este renombrado enunciado preside el proyecto del tratado central en la Metafísica, que se extiende desde E2 hasta 810. La parte del texto en la que Aristóteles dice lo que opina con este enunciado, es, como se sabe, el capítulo 7. Aquí se nombran cuatro significados de ov eivat, y el segundo de estos cuatro se distingue a su vez en ocho significados, tantos como hay categorías. En el tratado E2-81O se vale Aristóteles, (...) cuando se remite al capítulo 7, según la necesidad y el contexto, bien sea la cuádruple y amplia distinción (1026a33ss, 1045b32, 1051a33ss.) o bien, a la óctuple subdivisión interna del 2° significado (1028a10ss.).
