Engaging students in ethical decision-making: a case study from an undergraduate geoscience course.Carl-Georg Bank & Anne Marie Ryan - 2020 - International Journal of Ethics Education 5 (1):51-65.
The teaching of ethics in science within the disciplines provides an avenue to deepen students’ scientific understanding and to develop their critical thinking skills. This study showcases a module which connects ethics to science within a large introductory geoscience course. The module components, a tutorial plus homework assignment and an exam question, require students to decide on ethical issues using a 5-step approach that mirrors the scientific decision-making process. The assignment is graded using a developed rubric. An analysis of exam (...)

On the Foundation of the Indigenous Psychologies.Carl Martin Allwood - 2011 - Social Epistemology 25 (1):3-14.
Scientific indigenous psychologies have been developed mostly in non‐western countries. Indigenous psychologies, seeing mainstream psychology as too western in its cultural foundation, are based on the culture of the society being investigated. In this article I critique the concept of culture used by representative researchers of indigenous psychologies in the English‐language literature and contrast it to current concepts of culture in the social sciences. Furthermore, I argue that the concept of culture used in this literature has implications for the cultural (...)

    Enhancing police integrity.Carl B. Klockars - 2006 - Dordrecht: Springer. Edited by Sanja Kutnjak Ivković & M. R. Haberfeld.
How can we enhance police integrity? The authors surveyed over 3000 police officers from 30 U.S. police departments on how they would respond to typical scenarios where integrity is challenged. They studied three police agencies which scored highly on the integrity scale: Charlotte-Mecklenburg, North Carolina; Charleston, South Carolina; and St. Petersburg, Florida. The authors conclude that enhancing police integrity goes well beyond culling out "bad apple" police officers. Police administrators should focus on four aspects: organizational rulemaking; detecting, investigating and disciplining (...)

Ausführlicher Entwurf einer vollständigen Historie der Wolffischen Philosophie.Carl Günther Ludovici - 1977 - New York: G. Olms.

Economic Evil and the Other.

    Spontaneous disorder : conflict-kindling institutions in virtual worlds.Carl David Https://Orcidorg191X Mildenberger - 2018 - .
This paper analyses the emergence and persistence of disorder due to bellicose (i.e. ‘conflict-kindling’) institutions. It does so relying on a novel empirical approach, examining the predatory and productive interactions of 400,000 users of a virtual world as well as its institutions. The paper finds that while there are many cases of spontaneous order in that virtual world, and while the users are not more conflict-loving as such, bellicose institutions sanctioning suicidal attacks in a supposedly safe region spontaneously emerged and (...)

    Testimonial Injustice and Prediction Markets.Carl David Https://Orcidorg191X Mildenberger - 2022 - Social Epistemology 36 (3):378-392.
This essay argues that prediction markets, as one approach for aggregating dispersed private information, may not only be praised for their epistemic accuracy. They also feature characteristics that are morally desirable from the point of view of epistemic justice. Notably, they are a promising approach when we are trying to address testimonial injustice. The impersonality of market transactions effectively tackles the issue of identity prejudice, which underlies many forms of testimonial injustice. This is not to say that prediction markets do (...)

  48. De Technologia: On Beginning to Think About Technology in a Philosophical Way.Carl Mitcham - 1988 - Dissertation, Fordham University
This study aims to identify the stance and distinctions proper to beginning to think about technology philosophically. It begins with a personal background and some historical events that have influenced the philosophy of technology. Chapter two then considers the historico-philosophical traditions of engineering and humanities philosophy of technology . With EPT, technological activity is primary, and other aspects of human experience are explained as aspects of a technological monism. With HPT, technology itself is placed within a pluralistic framework. Following arguments (...)
