This article deals with developments of Shinto in the seventeenth century, focussing on the school of Yoshikawa Shinto. It is presented as an example of the coalition between Shinto and Neo-Confucianism intellectuals typical for that time. Pointing out the medieval predecessors of this coalition, the article argues that the theological ideas of Yoshikawa Shinto were much more indebted to medieval Shinto than is generally assumed. This is demonstrated by a doctrinal comparison as well as by a historiographical sketch of the (...) relations between Yoshikawa Shinto and Yoshida Shinto. Both schools regarded themselves as legitimate representatives of Japan's original Way of the kami. The article examines the internaljustifications of these claims as well as their acknowledgments by thepolitical authorities. (shrink)

The goal of the following study is to investigate whether first-year students in STEM fields that have a low proportion of females (STEM-L) show vocational interests that fit their vocational aspirations. To place our investigation into a broader context, we compared students in STEM-L with students of STEM subjects with a medium proportion of women (STEM-M) as well as with other subjects with a medium or a high proportion of females. We analyzed their vocational interests, vocational aspirations and their interest (...) congruence. In both the comparison regarding interest profiles and the comparison of vocational aspirations, we focused on the things-orientation and people-orientation, all while taking respective gender differences into account. Following the suggestion from previous studies, in a further step we differentiated between subjects within STEM-L. Using data from the German National Educational Panel Study (NEPS), we analyzed the interest congruence of 5530 male and 7406 female students in STEM majors (with a low or medium proportion of women) and non-STEM majors (with a medium or high proportion of women). Students from different subjects showed different magnitudes regarding their things- and people-orientation. STEM-L students had a high things-orientation and a low people-orientation regarding both their interests and aspired occupations. Students of STEM-L and STEM-M showed a lower interest congruence than students from other subjects. With the exception of education, gender differences regarding the people- and things-orientation also existed within most of the subjects. Gender differences partly remain when distinguishing between the different subjects within STEM-L. And so, the result that not all STEM-L subjects are “created equal” is discussed in the context of their theoretical and methodological aspects. (shrink)

We extend Moss and Parikh’s modal logic for subset spaces by adding, among other things, state-valued and set-valued functions. This is done with the aid of some basic concepts from hybrid logic. We prove the soundness and completeness of the derived logics with regard to the class of all correspondingly enriched subset spaces, and show that these logics are decidable.

En este artículo utilizaré términos como “responsivo” y “responsividad”. Estos términos no forman parte de la filosofía tradicional. Se hicieron indispensables para mi propio pensamiento cuando intenté desarrollar una teoría de la extrañeza (Fremdheit) radical. En este artículo desarrollo los rasgos básicos de esta responsividad en la que están implicados los otros. Metodológicamente, me guío por una variante de la fenomenología responsiva que ha de entenderse como una fenomenología fundada en el cuerpo. Para ello es crucial el descenso a una (...) forma radical de experiencia que precede a todos los constructos y modelos, así como a su propia teoría. Procederé en tres pasos. En el primer paso, intento mostrar cómo una experiencia de extrañeza radical exige el concepto clave de responsividad (secciones 1-3). En el segundo paso, describo las características básicas de la responsividad y sus desviaciones patológicas (secciones 4-6). This article explores the received version of Huang Kan's (488–545) Lunyu Yishu and a Tang manuscript fragment that stems from it, with a view to investigating residues of the oral transmission of glosses and interpretations of the Lunyu (the Analects). The discussion is based on close readings of passages that display remnants of the oral transmission of interpretations and attest to pedagogical techniques applied by Huang Kan during the Liang Dynasty (502–557) and by an unknown tutor in Dunhuang toward the (...) end of the Tang Dynasty (618–907). The two versions of the Lunyu Yishu are read as texts of oral utterances that bear evidence of two distinct layers of recognizable oral vestiges. (shrink)

In einer meisterhaften Re-Vision seiner Methodologie arbeitet Schaeffler die traditionelle Lehre vom »vierfachen Schriftsinn« zu einer transzendental-hermeneutischen Kriteriologie der religiösen Erfahrung aus. Mit dieser werden alle klassisch fundamentaltheologischen Themen rekonstruierbar. Die Glaubensgeschichte Israels wird als »Schule des Glaubens« verständlich, welche entscheidende Kriterien für eine angemessene oder unangemessene Transzendenzbeziehung ausbildet. In his transcendental and hermeneutical reflection he points out criterias for an objective understanding of religious experience by which all fundamental theological subjects are reconstructable. The history of the faith of Israel can be comprehended as a “school of belief” that forms decisive criteria for an adequate or inadequate relation to God. In this paper the co-responsibility of the North for the development of the South, the chance of an authentic developmentand Rawls’s maximin rule are indicated as the ethical perspectives from which the financial integration of developing countries will beevaluated. It follows a brief economic analysis of possible problems of high inflows of portfolio investments for developing countries. They become more vulnerable to financial and monetary crises and their domestic banking systems are weakened by a higher risk of devaluation. This will (...) lead to an outline of the goals for reshaping the financial integration: among others limitation of capital inflows,strengthening of the domestic banking system and further development of the country’s particular economic style. Finally someregulations of external financial relations and the proposal of a cooperative monetary arrangement between the South and the Northare discussed as possible measures to improve this integration. Grounding on Holland’s RIASEC model of vocational interests and the respective assumptions on person-environment fit, this paper focuses on how congruence is related to study outcomes, especially students’ persistence, performance, and satisfaction. The paper distinguishes the measure of congruence with respect to social congruence and aspirational congruence and also distinguishes the effects of congruence for gender and six different study areas including Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, medicine, economics, education, and languages. The paper analyses 10,226 university freshmen of the German National (...) Educational Panel Study and follows them longitudinally with respect to their study outcomes. The results show that students’ persistence was more related to SOC than to ASP, especially for male students. Furthermore, SOC was particularly important for students in STEM areas. Regarding performance, however, ASP was more important. Here, we notably found correlations for STEM subjects with a balanced proportion of female students. Regarding satisfaction, mainly marginal correlations could be found. The results indicate conceptual differences between social and aspirational congruence as well as specific effects for gender and study area. While research might take this into account by specifically developing their models for different study areas, career counseling may reflect on the different significance of the interest-based person-environment fit for different study areas. Initiatives for raising young people’s participation in STEM should therefore specifically focus on students that have high chances to develop interest profiles that are congruent to STEM rather than students who show profiles which already indicate a low congruence. Besonders anschaulich wird diese Geschichte beim grossen Philosophen Platon. Dort liegen die Wurzeln fur eine erregende Spiritualitat auf der einen und fur die technisch-wissenschaftliche Welteroberung auf der anderen Seite. Mit didaktischem Geschick entfaltet der Autor mit zahlreichen (...) Ausblicken auf kulturgeschichtliche Hintergrunde die faszinierende Denkwelt Platons. Die Frage nach dem Menschenbild im Praxisfeld der Kunst ist neben anderen mit zwei Problemen konfrontiert. Einerseits gibt es nach wie vor keine normierte Definition dessen, was Kunst ist. Andererseits überlagern mit Blick auf die Anfänge der Kunst – vor allem angesichts der Tatsache, dass Kunst eine die Welt deutende kulturelle Erzählung ist – anthropologische Konstanten die Frage nach einem hinter der Kunstproduktion stehenden Menschenbild. Was die Kunst betrifft, werden im Folgenden zwei wesentliche Kennzeichenpaarungen unterschieden: Mimesis und Ausdruck sowie Werkästhetik (...) und Rezeptionsästhetik. Was die anthropologischen Konstanten angeht, scheint in den meisten kulturellen Erzählungen das Muster von Ermächtigung und Entmächtigung des Menschen in seiner Stellung zur Wirklichkeit eine zentrale Rolle gespielt zu haben. In dieser Spannung kristallisiert sich das Bild eines Menschen heraus, der sich einerseits heterogenen und einschränkenden Sinngebungen unterwirft, andererseits um seine Emanzipation und Souveränität ringt, wie es die lange Geschichte der Genieästhetik dokumentiert. Was tun mit arbeitsunfähigen Zwangsarbeitern? Die Lösungen, die dafür gefunden wurden, reichten von der Betreuung durch Werks-, Lager- oder niedergelassene Ärzte über Krankenstuben, spezielle Ausländerkrankenhäuser bis hin zur Abschiebung „in ihre Heimat“, wobei ungewiss war, ob sie jemals zu Hause ankamen. Im Verlauf des Krieges radikalisierte sich der Umgang mit ihnen. Spätestens 1944 sollten „geisteskranke Ostarbeiter und Polen“ in Heil- und Pflegeanstalten eingeliefert werden, wo über ihr weiteres Schicksal entschieden werden sollte. Dies wurde teilweise als Freibrief für Morde auch an (...) tuberkulösen Ausländern genutzt. Die Anstalt Pfafferode im heutigen Thüringen war ab September 1944 „Sammelstelle“ für die Länder Thüringen-Land und Provinz Sachsen, Anhalt. An ihrem Beispiel wird dargestellt, wie auch osteuropäische Zwangsarbeiter Opfer der dortigen Krankenmorde wurden. Detaillierte Aussagen des Personals belegen den Umgang mit Patienten auf den von Direktor Theodor Steinmeyer persönlich betreuten Stationen 17 und 18, auf denen auffallend viele Patienten ums Leben kamen. In unserer Gegenwart der unwiderruflichen Globalisierung und digitalen Technifizierung, in welcher wir zum ersten Mal in unserer menschlichen Geschichte konkret die Mittel zu einem Gattungssuizid in der Hand haben, ist keine Frage für ein ernsthaftes philosophisches Denken so fundamental wie jene von Kant unter dem Titel „Alles Interesse meiner Vernunft“ am Ende der „Kritik der reinen Vernunft“ gestellte: Was aber sollen wir mit dem, was wir dank unseres Wissens tun können, in unserer Freiheit aber tun? (Vgl. KrV A 805). Husserls (...) Methode kritisch aufnehmend, selbst aber von Heideggers „Sein und Zeit“ ausgehend, dessen Hermeneutik der Zeitigung des Daseins zum Tode jedoch aufbrechend und überschreitend in die Frage nach dem Heil unseres Daseins angesichts des Anderen, hat sich kaum ein Denker des 20. Jahrhunderts dieser Frage so intensiv zugewandt wie Emmanuel Levinas. Das vorliegende Werk umfasst eine Reihe von Studien zu Levinas, die diese Frage als ihren Mittelpunkt haben und sich insbesondere auch auf die in Deutschland noch kaum bekannten Schriften aus dem Nachlass von Levinas stützen. Zusammen mit ihnen wird im deutschen Original ein bereits auf Tschechisch, Italienisch und Spanisch publiziertes Gespräch zugänglich gemacht, welches der Verfasser 1981 mit Emmanuel Levinas in Paris führte. Aus ihm stammt der Titel des Werkes. Was in ihm zur Sprache kommt, sucht nach einer Antwort philosophischen Denkens auf die Frage: Menschlichkeit – schaffen wir das? (shrink)

Dans ses Carnets de captivité, Levinas fait parler le fond intime de sa pensée : la vérité humaine trouvée dans l’expérience de l’inhumanité du Stalag. Mais cette « épochè » la plus radicale oblige à se détourner du Dasein heideggérien compris comme être-au-monde. Le problème existentiel devient : « Pourquoi ai-je le droit, tout simplement, d’être, d’être moi-même? ». C’est dans cette possibilité du Néant, dans cette solitude orpheline de monde, propre au « Je suis », que réside l’accès à (...) l’origine de l’historicité. Le chemin hors de la différence ontologique et de l’athéisme présupposé par le concept de l’Être conduit hors de la tentation métaphysique de l’être fermé monadologiquement sur lui-même, vers l’extériorité salvatrice. Le nouveau commencement de la pensée qui donne une orientation à l’être-soi mortel est trouvé en Autrui, plus précisément dans l’événement d’une rencontre avec Autrui, qui parle en son propre nom et me parle. L’être-pour-la-mort reçoit un nouveau sens : répondre à Autrui depuis une solitude devenue surnaturelle, pour commencer un nouvel avenir où je suis pour moi, en tant que mortelle liberté, moi-même. La réalisation salvatrice d’une histoire humaine repose donc sur cette compréhension infinie du Temps, car la relation à Autrui crée une certaine passivité, dans laquelle l’Infini se laisse éprouver. Qu’il soit impossible que le salut vienne de moi seul, qu’il doive se produire par l’entremise d’une relation religieuse au visage d’Autrui, prouve que nous sommes « élus » pour vivre. Amour et pardon, structures authentiques de l’humanité, remplacent « l’Être ». « Salut n’est pas l’être », écrit Levinas! (shrink)
