Naturalness and conservation in France.Annik Schnitzler, Jean-Claude Génot, Maurice Wintz & Brack W. Hale - 2008 - Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics 21 (5):423-436.
This article discusses the ecological and cultural criteria underlying the management practices for protected areas in France. It examines the evolution of French conservation from its roots in the 19th century, when it focused on the protection of scenic landscapes, to current times when the focus is on the protection of biodiversity. However, biodiversity is often socially defined and may not represent an ecologically sound objective for conservation. In particular, we question the current approach to protecting a specific type of (...)

A Nordic Perspective of Corporate Social Responsibility.Siri Granum Carson, Annik Magerholm Fet & Christofer Skaar - 2011 - Etikk I Praksis - Nordic Journal of Applied Ethics 1 (1):3-8.
This introduction points to the divergent factors relevant to the topic of CSR, clearly indicating the need for multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary approaches to this research area. This is reflected in the way CSR has developed at NTNU. For the past 10 years, there has been a focus on CSR in different ways; in course curricula, research projects, and strategic activities across faculties and department and as the focus area within two of the six overall research strategic areas at NTNU: the (...)

Baker's yeast, the new work horse in protein synthesis studies: Analyzing eukaryotic translation initiation.Patrick Linder & Annik Prat - 1990 - Bioessays 12 (11):519-526.
The possibility of combining powerful genetic methods with biochemical analysis has made baker's yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae the organism of choice to study the complex process of translation initiation in eukaryotes. Several new initiation factor genes and interactions between components of the translational machinery that were not predicted by current models have been revealed by genetic analysis of extragenic suppressors of translational initiation mutants. In addition, a yeast cell‐free translation system has been developed that allows in vivo phenotypes to be correlated (...)

German Laypeople’s Willingness to Donate Toward Insect Conservation: Application of an Extended Protection Motivation Theory.Lara Dörge, Milan Büscher, Jasmin Drews, Annike Eylering & Florian Fiebelkorn - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
It is essential to engage the public in conservation measures to conserve insects. We investigate the Protection Motivation Theory, as well as knowledge, attitudes, and sociodemographic variables as predictors of willingness to donate and actual donations to insect conservation for a representative German sample. The PMT subcomponents severity, self-efficacy, and response efficacy, as well as attitudes toward insects, income, and education level, significantly predicted WTD. In contrast, severity, response barriers, age, gender, and the WTD significantly influenced actual donations. Overall, components (...)

    Meanings of “Embodied Experience”: A Response to Anik Waldow’s Book.Hynek Janoušek - 2023 - Hume Studies 48 (2):305-317.
The text first briefly summarizes the contents of Annik Waldow's book and then attempts to highlight the diverse meanings of the concept of bodily experience in eighteenth-century philosophy, especially in the philosophy of David Hume. After a brief distinction between subjective and objective bodily experience in Descartes, I point to six different meanings of this concept in David Hume's Treatise of Human Nature. One of these notions, the body as a center of reference, turns out to be important for interpreting (...)

    Die betekenis van ritueelteorie vir rousmartpastoraat.Santie Bothe-Smith & Yolanda Dreyer - 2014 - HTS Theological Studies 70 (3):01-10.
In this article the focus is on ritual theory and its relevance for pastoral care during the grief process. For these purposes the first task at hand is finding an appropriate description of what ritual implies, especially in the context of pastoral care. It includes studying different descriptions from different study fields to provide a broad theoretical view of ritual and to identify relevant perspectives. This view is narrowed to ritual as performance as well as legitimisation of experience. Concerning the (...)
