The paper aims to present a critical analysis of the phenomenon and notion of exceptionalism in bioethics. The authors demonstrate that exceptionalism pertains to phenomena that are not (yet) entirely familiar to us and could potentially bear risks regarding their regulation. After an overview of the state of the art, we briefly describe the origins and evolution of the concept, compared to exception and exclusion. In the second step, they look at the overall development debates on genetic exceptionalism, compared to (...) other bioethical debates on exceptionalism, before presenting a detailed analysis of a specific case of early regulation of genetic screening. In the last part, the authors explain the historical background behind the connection between exceptionalism and exclusion in these debates. Their main conclusion is that while the initial stage of the discussion is shaped by the concept of exceptionalism and awareness of risks of exclusion, the later development centers around exceptions that are needed in detailed regulatory procedures. This paper presents a short analysis of the so-called ‘conservative turn’ in contemporary Russia. This ‘turn’ is examined in the context of the previous development of Russian conservatism, particularly its degradation into imitational bureaucratic conservatism in the second half of the nineteenth century. I argue that this ‘new conservatism’ in contemporary Russian politics reflects this degradation and is, in fact, a pseudo-conservatism which has no conservative core but rather an ad hoc (tactical, pseudo-historical, anti-intellectual) character. Scholars usually distinguish between testimonial and hermeneutical epistemic injustice in healthcare. The former arises from negative stereotyping and stigmatization, while the latter occurs when the hermeneutical resources of the dominant community are inadequate for articulating the experience of one’s illness. However, the heuristics provided by these two types of epistemic predicaments tend to overlook salient forms of epistemic injustice. In this paper, we prove this argument on the example of the temporality of patients with drug dependence. We identify three temporal (...) dimensions of epistemic injustice affecting drug-dependent patients: the temporal features of their cognitive processes, their individual temporal experience, and the mismatch of social temporality. Notably, the last aspect, which highlights the disparity between the availability of care and its accessibility, does not fit neatly into the categories of testimonial or hermeneutical injustice. (We should note that the International Network of People Who Use Drugs (INPUD) and The Asian Network of People who use Drugs (ANPUD) consider the term “drug addiction” to be associated with disempowerment and negative stereotyping. Instead, they suggest the expression “drug dependence” (INPUD 2020). However, the concept of “drug addiction” is still being used in the current public health, philosophy, and sociology debates that concern the specific field of addiction studies. Replacing the notion of drug addiction with “drug dependence” would not eliminate existing epistemic injustices or allow us to avoid creating new ones, such as those related to ignoring pain claims (O’Brien 2011). Still, for the sake of clarity we will use the notion “drug dependence” when speaking of people while retaining the term “drug addiction” for labelling healthcare practices and the topic for philosophy of healthcare.). Obwohl es in der bisherigen Nietzscheforschung detaillierte Untersuchungen separater Aspekte von Nietzsches Homerdeutung während der Leipziger und Baseler Periode gibt, fehlt ein Überblick über die gesamte Perspektive von Nietzsches philologischen und philosophischen Beschäftigungen mit Homer. In diesem Buch wird der gesamte Entwicklungsprozess von Nietzsches Homerinterpretation von den frühen philologischen Schriften und Vorlesungen bis hin zu den spätesten Erwähnungen Homers in den Werken und Nachlassfragmenten von 1888 rekonstruiert. Zugleich widmet der Autor den philosophischen Ansätzen Nietzsches besondere Aufmerksamkeit, u.a. seiner Interpretation der (...) Figur des homerischen Odysseus, seiner Deutung des homerischen Polytheismus sowie dem Gegensatz Homer/Platon. Durch die Untersuchung der philosophischen Dimension der philologischen Kontexte schließt das Buch eine wesentliche Forschungslücke und bereitet die Grundlagen für weitere Interpretationen von Nietzsches Bild der griechischen Archaik. In the course of the last 20 years, the problem of Kant’s view of races has evolved from a marginal topic to a question which affects his critical philosophy in general, including the anthropology and its influence on contemporary social studies. The goal of our paper is to examine the anthropological role of Kant’s concept of race from the largely overlooked or underestimated perspective of his Lectures on Anthropology. Taking into account the differences between Kant’s approach in the early lectures (...) of the 1770s and early 1780s and the lectures of the late 1780s in the light of the development of the idea of race in Kant’s works, we will demonstrate that several key elements of Kant’s 1780s theory of race presented in his published works can be found in his early lectures. On the other hand, we will prove that Kant gradually abandons racial hierarchies and moral characteristics of races in his anthropological lectures of the late 1780s and in the Anthropology from the Pragmatic Point of View, shifting his focus to more nuanced descriptions of morals of different nations.
