The purpose of this paper was to provide an example from phenomenological research of moving from rich descriptive interview data to coherent revelatory descriptions employing empathic bridges within the narrative structure of storytelling. We used transcribed data from two interviews concerning recovery from severe mental illness: one with an American woman in her early thirties, and the other with a Swedish man in his mid-thirties. Five investigators analyzed the transcribed data into individual first-person narrative descriptions according to existing empirical phenomenological (...) methods including an independent reading, identification of themes relevant to processes of recovery from severe mental illness, temporal ordering of themes meaningfully reflecting the sequence of the recounted events, and consensus development. Our findings support the use of empathic bridges as a methodological tool with the narrative structure of firstperson storytelling, as well as the viability and importance of employing this tool to better understand processes of recovery for persons with severe mental illness. We describe a new way to construct large subdirectly irreducibles within an equational class of algebras. We use this construction to show that there are forbidden geometries of multitraces for finite algebras in residually small equational classes. The construction is first applied to show that minimal equational classes generated by simple algebras of types 2, 3 or 4 are residually small if and only if they are congruence modular. Ce texte propose une définition de la conscience de soi et explique en quoi cette capacité naît du monde social. Il est postulé que ce dernier permet un mouvement de recul - une «distanciation » - par rapport à soi, et que le cerveau reproduit ce mouvement grâce à certains processus cognitifs qui en ont été imprimés. Parmi ceux-ci, on retrouve le langage intérieur, qui, par analogie, agirait comme un miroir interne capable de confronter l'expérience subjective à elle-même; de cette (...) confrontation naîtrait le soi. Un argument est présenté en faveur de la supériorité du langage intérieur sur d'autres processus cognitifs impliqués dans la conscience de soi. Le problème de la conscience de soi chez les primates est abordé, et l'article conclut sur diverses réflexions ayant trait à la schizophrénie, la prière, la méditation, et les drogues psychodysleptiques.This text proposes a definition of self-awareness and explains its social origin. It is postulated that the social milieu permits a movement to a more objective perspective for self- perception, and that this movement is then reproduced in the brain by specific cognitive processes. It is suggested that inner speech represents one such cognitive processes, which acts like a mirror to reflect subjective experience back upon itself-, the self would be generated by this reflective activity. It is argued that inner speech has a pre-eminent position among the cognitive processes implicated in self-awareness. The problem of self-awareness in primates is discussed, and the article concludes with ideas concerning schizophrenia, prayer, medi- tation, and psychodysleptic drugs. (shrink)

En los inicios del tercer milenio, ¿abre la humanidad la puerta a una nueva era: la del vacío, la de un mundo que ya no canta? ¿El hombre estará condenado a permanecer como un lobo para el hombre? ¿La relación hombre-mujer no sería más bien una dialéctica de dominio y servidumbre? En este artículo nos proponemos sintetizar rápidamente las dos primeras etapas de las doctrinas clásicas sobre el matrimonio y luego, explicitar más extensamente lo que nos parece ser una «nueva (...) doctrina», la de los «dones del matrimonio». Finalizaremos mostrando la originalidad y las implicancias de esta novedad. A través de los riesgos históricos del desarrollo de estas doctrinas quisiéramos manifestar la coherencia propia de cada una de ellas, subrayar también una cierta continuidad histórica y teológica a la vez, particularmente en el paso de la una a la otra. Las tres doctrinas del matrimonio: la de los «bienes», la de los «fines» y la de los «dones» son tres doctrinas que están en continuidad y cada una de ellas trata de descubrir el misterio del sacramento del matrimonio. At the beginning of the third millennium, does humanity open the door to a new era: the era of emptiness, the era of a world that no longer sings? Is man doomed to remain a wolf to man? Is the relationship between man and woman rather a dialectic of domination and servitude? In this article we propose to quickly synthesize the first two stages of the classical doctrines on marriage and then explain more fully what seems to be a «new doctrine» of the «gifts of marriage». We finish explaining the originality and the implications of this development. Through the historical risks of the developing of these doctrines we would like to express the coherence of each of these, also to underline some historical and theological continuity while, particulary in the transition from one to the other. I learned there was an enormous range of possible transformations inside capitalism, as we would demonstrate with the research program of the Regulation School. As a politician, I have always upheld this radical reformism.

Quelle interaction y a-t-il entre l’engagement éthique des sujets et leur appartenance à une communauté chrétienne ? Dans cet article, A. Thomasset tente de mettre en évidence le fait que ces sujets usent d’un langage qui invite à articuler à la fois une expérience spirituelle propre, et le souci d’un discours éthique commun. La particularité chrétienne la plus propre ouvre paradoxalement au service le plus universel. Plutôt que de monter la plausibilité théorique de cette proposition il s’agit de mettre en (...) lumière la figure concrète qu’elle prend pour des chrétiens qui cherchent à rendre compte de leur expérience. A partir d’une vingtaine de témoignages, sont traitées plusieurs questions : comment la position éthique des personnes sollicitées rejoint-elle et entre-t-elle en dialogue avec les communautés chrétiennes, leurs croyances, leurs récits et leurs pratiques ? En quoi l’appartenance à une Eglise chrétienne détermine-t-il leur mode de relation aux autres et leur engagement dans la société ? En quoi cette détermination chrétienne apporte-t-elle une spécificité dans leurs comportements et ouvre-t-elle sur une position qui peut être qualifiée d’universelle ?What is the interaction between the ethical commitment of subjects and their membership in a Christian community? In this article, A. Thomasset tries to show that these subjects use a language that leads at once to a particular spiritual experience and to the concern for a common ethical discourse. The most distinctively Christian characteristic paradoxically opens onto the most universal service. Rather than show the theoretical plausibility of this proposition, the aim here is to shed light on the concrete significance it has for the Christians seeking to give an account of their experience. A number of questions are addressed based on twenty or so accounts: how does the ethical position of the persons questioned agree with and enter into dialogue with Christian communities: their beliefs, their stories, and their practices? How does belonging to a Christian church determine their way of relating to others and their involvement in society?
