Adi Da argues that no solutions currently proposed are sufficient to righten the present unsustainable trajectory of life on Earth, because there is no integrated approach to the ordering of society and use of the planet. The presumption of separateness—manifesting collectively as separate “tribes” vying for control—characterizes human affairs, rather than the prior (“a priori”) unity of existence. The struggle for dominance is the “stave in the wheels” of the Earth-system's inherent capacity to self-correct. A new institution, “the Global Cooperative (...) Forum,” is proposed—invoked by “everybody-all-at-once” (a global populace awakened as a single force, capable of cooperatively effecting global change). (shrink)

The last positive statement I made about Da's work was in 1985, when I wrote a very strong endorsement for his major book, The Dawn Horse Testament. This is one of the very greatest spiritual treatises, comparable in scope and depth to any of the truly classic religious texts. I still believe that, and I challenge anybody to argue that specific assessment.

L'A. confronta due commenti su quello che nel mondo arabo viene considerato il primo libro della Metaphysica di Aristotele: alpha Elatton. Dopo averne delineato i contenuti e la penetrazione nel mondo arabo grazie alle traduzioni di Ustat e Ishaq ibn Hunayn, l'A. esamina due importanti commenti a quest'opera: Yahyá Ibn 'Adi, un commentatore cristiano della scuola di Baghdad e Averroè . I due autori leggono il testo in modo molto diverso: questo suggerisce una grande differenza tra Averroè e la scuola (...) di Baghdad, sebbene il filosofo andaluso abbia ammirato e seguito il lavoro di al-Farabi. In particolare è naturale il rifiuto da parte di Averroè di introdurre un'inchiesta puramente teologica nella trattazione, punto accettato invece da Ibn 'Adi, secondo il proposito di Averroè di rimarcare il fondamento fisico della metafisica, come è possibile comprendere soprattutto grazie alla lettura del Trattato. Neste estudo, procura-se mostrar, através de um autor cristão do século 10, como comentários às obras de Aristóteles foram continuamente feitos, desde os gregos até Averróis. Por meio de alguns textos da Metafísica, é possível perceber que, mesmo sem ter contato direto com o original grego, foram cotejadas pelo autor diversas traduções, tanto do grego como do siríaco. This paper claims that the ultimate issue confronting transpersonal theory is that of nondualism. The revelation of this spiritual reality has a long history in the spiritual traditions, which has been perhaps most prolifically advocated by Ken Wilber , and fully explicated by David Loy . Nonetheless, these scholarly accounts of nondual reality, and the spiritual traditions upon which they are based, either do not include or else misrepresent the revelation of a contemporary spiritual master crucial to the understanding of (...) nondualism. Avatar Adi Da not only offers a greater differentiation of nondual reality than can be found in contemporary scholarly texts, but also a dimension of nondualism not found in any previous spiritual revelation. No livro Homo Modernus: para uma ideia global de raça (= HM), Denise Ferreira da Silva fornece uma interpretação do pensamento de Hegel no contexto de uma narrativa que visa explicar as condições de possibilidade filosóficas daquilo que ela chama de analítica da racialidade, a saber, um conjunto de ferramentas científicas (tais como "diferença racial", "diferença cultural", "miscigenação", "hibridagem"), nas quais está assentada a opressão racial. Contudo, esta não é a única dimensão da relação de Ferreira da Silva com o (...) pensamento de Hegel, e no presente artigo me proponho a destacar um outro aspecto da confrontação da autora com a obra do filósofo alemão. Se HM pode ser interpretado como uma grande análise dos pressupostos teóricos da analítica da racialidade, de sua configuração, e de seus efeitos no atual cenário de opressão racial/global, o livro A dívida impagável (= ADI) me parece delinear uma tentativa de fundamentação de um projeto que ao mesmo tempo denuncie o horizonte teórico que originou a atual opressão racial/global e forneça as bases para um "pensar outra-mente" – entendendo com este conceito, ao mesmo tempo, pensar a subjetividade fora da tese da transparência e da distinção entre Eu transparentes e Eu afetáveis (pensar "uma outra mente", ou melhor, além do conceito de mente), bem como pensar em geral uma outra configuração ontoepistemológica, um outro mundo que possa abrigar tanto as demandas para a emancipação racial/global como projetos emancipatórios eficazes. O conceito hegeliano de Ding (= coisa) – figura entre as referências centrais para este projeto. Os objetivos deste artigo serão, portanto, I) traçar as linhas fundamentais do "pensar outra-mente", II) compreender a apropriação do conceito hegeliando de Ding da parte de Ferreira da Silva, e III) destacar a relação entre estes dois pontos. As part of a continuous process to explore the factors that might weaken or corrupt traditional peer review, in this paper, we query the ethics, fairness and validity of the request, by editors, of authors to suggest peer reviewers during the submission process. One of the reasons for the current crisis in science pertains to a loss in trust as a result of a flawed peer review which is by nature biased unless it is open peer review. As we indicate, (...) the fact that some editors and journals rely on authors’ suggestions in terms of who should peer review their paper already instills a potential way to abuse the trust of the submission and publishing system. An author-suggested peer reviewer choice might also tempt authors to seek reviewers who might be more receptive or sympathetic to the authors’ message or results, and thus favor the outcome of that paper. Authors should thus not be placed in such a potentially ethically compromising situation, especially as a mandatory condition for submission. However, the fact that they do not have an opt-out choice during the submission process—especially when using an online submission system that makes such a suggestion compulsory—may constitute a violation of authors’ rights. This paper is concerned with the particular problems raised by observations of phenomena outside the common course of nature for their validation as knowledge. It examines to what extent the content of the reports and, in particular, their lack of intrinsic plausibility affected the methods used in their authentication and the assessment of testimony at the Royal Society in the first half of the eighteenth century. I show that literary strategies were usually necessary but not sufficient for the validation of (...) these kinds of observations. Next, I discuss why visual representations were especially useful in establishing the singularity of the observations, but I point out that their high costs and other restrictions meant that they were not so widespread. In contrast I show that, for a long period of time, testimony was used in the majority of the reports as the true stamp of authenticity. I note, however, that the Royal Society accepted reports by authors of varied social status, level of education and occupation, and I discuss some of the factors responsible for the complexity of the handling of testimony at the Society. I argue against Shapin that in the case of reports of extraordinary phenomena, the competence of the reporter and witnesses was often more important than their social status. Spatial cognitive abilities, including mental rotation and visuo-spatial working memory are correlated with mathematical performance, and several studies have shown that training of these abilities can enhance mathematical performance. Here, we investigated the behavioral and neural correlates of MR and vsWM training combined with number line training. Fifty-seven children, aged 6–7, performed 25 days of NL training combined with either vsWM or MR and participated in an Electroencephalography -session in school to measure resting state activity and steady-state visual evoked potentials (...) during a vsWM task before and after training. Fifty children, aged 6–7, received usual teaching and acted as a control group. Compared to the control group, both training groups improved on a combined measure of mathematics. Cognitive improvement was specific to the training. Significant pre-post changes in resting state-EEG, common to both training groups, were found for power as well as for coherence, with no significant differences in rs-EEG-changes between the vsWM and MR groups. Two of the common rs-EEG changes were correlated with mathematical improvement: an increase in coherence between the central frontal lobe and the right parietal lobe in frequencies ranging from 16 to 25 Hz, and an increase in coherence between the left frontal lobe and the right parietal lobe ranging from 23 to 25 Hz. These results indicate that changes in fronto-parietal coherence are related to an increase in mathematical performance, which thus might be a useful measure in further investigations of mathematical interventions in children. Quasi-set theory is a theory for dealing with collections of indistinguishable objects. In this paper we discuss some logical and philosophical questions involved with such a theory. The analysis of these questions enable us to provide the first grounds of a possible new view of physical reality, founded on an ontology of non-individuals, to which quasi-set theory may constitute the logical basis.

In the present paper, i propose, first, to present some aspects of what we may call a type of "phenomenology" of the image contained in the Berlin lectures on transcendental logic – notably, in the second of these courses in Berlin. Second, i would like to return to the problem of the relationship between logic and philosophy, starting from these indications with regard to the "image", and, if possible, outline some parallel with certain theses on the same subject from the (...) Jena years. Finally, in what i consider a novelty concerning these lessons, i would like to conclude my exposition by raising the question of the foundational character of Fichte’s project. (shrink)

O artigo apresenta duas contribuições para o interessante debate sobre a qualidade de vida,a subjetividade e os riscos na área de Meio Ambiente e Sociedade. Por um lado permite um melhor conhecimento da importância dos sujetos. E por outro lado contribui para uma forma sistemática de trabalhar com dados da América Latina.

El texto presenta una conversación entre la profesora Edna Olimpia da Cunha y el profesor Wanderson Flor do Nascimento, celebrada en la histórica Pedra do Sal, en Río de Janeiro, en la que se habla de la infancia desde la perspectiva de las tradiciones africanas y las formas de pensar de los terreiros. El diálogo trata del tiempo en espiral y de la figura de Exu, que, representado como un niño, es portador de la memoria colectiva y juega con el (...) tiempo, conectando pasado y presente. Esta perspectiva rompe con la visión lineal y occidental de la infancia, reconociendo a los niños como manifestaciones vivas de la ancestralidad. La noción de comunidad ocupa un lugar central en la conversación, describiéndose como una entidad histórica y relacional que precede y sostiene al individuo. La educación, a su vez, se aborda como un proceso continuo, relacional y colectivo, enraizado en las prácticas comunitarias, la oralidad y la ética. En los terreiros, la ancestralidad se vive en el presente, desafiando las lógicas neoliberales y coloniales que fragmentan la colectividad y priorizan el individualismo. El profesor destaca el papel político de los terreiros como espacios de resistencia y formación, que integran tradición, pertenencia y transformación. Las prácticas valorizan la interdependencia entre los miembros de la comunidad, creando formas alternativas de existir y de educar. La continuidad de este modelo formativo, que cuestiona paradigmas hegemónicos, depende del compromiso político y comunitario capaz de sostener estas formas ancestrales de convivencia, memoria y educación. Is the dream of EU endangered? This book reviews classic and modern values and virtues, and uses them in order to rethink Europe's present politics and its future. The idea of the Republic was born with the political ethics of ancient Greece. The current international crisis obliges Europe to face the mirror of truth: What has become of the European Idea and how fares the European Constitution? It has been a long road from the Greek Politeia to the present lack (...) of values and financial monomania in Europe, who seems to have lost any harmony between the spirit, the soul and the body of her Constitution: the will and values of the people (material constitution), the text of the Lisbon Treaty (formal constitution) and its current political interpretation and action (real constitution), making Europe a two-tier or three-tier club, far from the dream of the founding fathers. Without republican values and virtues, and failing to uphold the European social model, the European Union would devolve into moral, social and democratic bankruptcy. (shrink)

Embora a expressão ‘neologismo’ nos dê a impressão de uma palavra exótica, que causa uma certa estranheza ao usuário da língua, ela, na verdade, refere-se a qualquer palavra recém-criada que entra em uso num idioma. Toda língua, em seu estágio inicial, é simples, rudimentar e refere-se, principalmente, ao concreto. Conforme a sociedade vai-se aprimorando e tornando-se complexa, também a língua usada por essa sociedade vai-se aprimorando, refinando, atendendo às necessidades de seus falantes. Com o latim não foi diferente. Para se (...) transformar numa língua capaz de expressar a grandeza da civilização romana, o latim teve que, dentre outros processos, ampliar seu léxico, criando novas palavras. E é esse processo de produtividade lexical que este trabalho se propõe a observar, ainda que superficialmente. (shrink)

Essa libertação supõe, em Antero, a Moral e o Sentimento Religioso que estão portanto no centro da sua filosofia e que aqui se analisam desde a reacção contra Hegel até à formulação da sua moral que tenta explicar o sentido final da vida humana como "o momento último e mais verdadeiro". /// La philosophie de Antero de Quental se résume (...) par la célèbre phrase: "le drame de l'être s'achève avec libération finale par le lien". Cette libération suppose, chez Antero, la Morale et le Sentiment religieux, que se trouvent donc en centre de sa philosophie et que l'on analyse ici daprès la réaction contre Hegel jusqu'à la formulation de sa morale, qui s'efforce d'expliquer le sens final de la vie humaine comme "le moment ultime et le plus vrai". /// The philosophy of Antero de Quental can be resumed in his own words: "The drama of being ends in the final liberation by the good". For Antero, liberation implies Moral and Religious Sentiment, which occupy a central place in his philosophy.
