The History and the Present State of American Chinese Plays
Abstract
Chinese-American drama, about a hundred years of history, its development can be roughly divided into three stages: in the 1920s as the initial stage; in the 1970s as the rise of the stage; since the 1980s as a period of prosperity and development. In the course of development in recent years, Chinese-American theater in terms of creative theme, dramatic form, or sphere of influence, has changed a lot, there have been many excellent writers and works. For the study of Chinese-American plays the construction of overseas Chinese theatrical traditions, explore the Chinese culture and literature on the impact of overseas Chinese drama, and to understand the acceptance of overseas Chinese drama, has important practical significance. The history of American Chinese plays can be divided into three stages in the past about one hundred years: the initial stage in 1920s, the rising stage in 1970s, and the prosperity stage in 1980s. The American Chinese plays have been changed greatly both on the topics, styles and their influence and many prominent playwrights have published many excellent plays.
