Forced-choice procedures

Abstract

In a forced-choice design, the observer is presented with two stimuli, one of which contains a signal and one not, and they must decide which is which. This chapter describes how to apply the signal-detection model to the situation and relates it to the single-signal procedure in the area theorem.
