Abstract

This introductory chapter explains the coverage of this book, which is about the causes of aggression. This book provides a working definition of aggression as being a behaviour that is directed by an organism toward a target, resulting in damage. It discusses classifications of aggression, the use of an animal model in aggression research, and various attempts to measure aggression in humans. It examines the influence of biological, environmental, and social factors on aggression.
