Abstract

This chapter examines evidence for the role of conditioning and learning in aggressive responses in lower animals and human beings. The results indicate that conditioning and learning can decrease aggression. It explains that conditioning can limit an individual's exposure to noxious stimuli while leaning can help avoid noxious stimuli or gain rewarding stimuli. It also describes the process by which the so-called negative reinforcement increases aggression.
