Abstract

Sociologist Raymond Murphy points out how humanity's success in manipulating nature destabilizes the natural support system of society on a planetary scale and, in turn, destablilizes all of society's institutions. In response to this "ecological blindness", Murphy proposes the reconstruction of sociology that situates social action in its natural context.
