The Question of Balancing in Moral Practice
Abstract
In this paper, Xunzi, Han Fei Zi and Mo Zi to explore their ideas for the: Why weigh? Method of how to weigh? The basis for such trade-offs? Issues of perception; and try to include the same virtual three situations in order to view the source of their values, moral principles; then applied to modern life, in-depth analysis of "balance" of operational steps. Mexico, Xun, Han thought the value of three roots are basically appealing to authority, Xun Zi's "Dao," Mo's "Heaven", Han Fei's "law" has its place can learn from today. The principle of survival, self-preference principle, moral principle, the principle of utility, the principle of fairness, but also has its own in different situations, based on the kind of motivation can refer to. This paper is intended to explore how Xun Zi, Han Fei Zi and Mo Zi thought about the following questions: Why is balancing necessary? How to do we balance? And what is balancing based on? Then we try to incorporate the three thinkers' doctrines into one and the same imagined situation so as to examine their sources of values and moral principles before we apply them to modern life and analyze the operative steps of "balancing" in a profound way. The sources of Xun Zi's, Han Fei Zi's and Mo Zi's values are basically appealing to authorities, while all of Xun Zi's "Dao," Mo Zi's "Heaven" and Han Fei Zi's "Law" are what we can refer to in order to see our condition today. The principle of survival, the principle of self before others, the principle of virtue, the principle of utilitarianism, the principle of fairness are all what we, based on the motivation of kindness, can refer to in different situations.
