Abstract

Koheleth 1,12-18 is a text free of commentary (gloss), well delimited and structured in two symmetrical parts : 1,12-15 and 1,16-18. The thought behind this pericope can be resumed as follow : Koheleth parodies the legendary texts about Salomon and the propagandist praise of the royal autobiography of the Ancient Near Eastern, in order to relativise the value of wisdom and knowledge, and to emphasize the impotence of the people to modify, to improve or to enrich the work that God has made crooked.
