Boolean chaos

Abstract

The article discusses the deterministic chaos that occurs in a simple digital circuit consisting of logic gates that are not synchronized by an external signal. The pulses at the output of the circuit have an ultra-wideband spectrum in the range from DC to 2 GHz or more. The behavior of the circuit is qualitatively described using a Boolean model, which is updated autonomously. The signal transit time in the model depends on the set of previous states of the elements. The model filters short pulses, the presence of which has been confirmed experimentally. Chaos in digital circuits can be used as a source of ultrawideband radio signals.
