Abstract

La notion de juste mesure est particulièrement importante dans l'économie du Timée. A partir de la recherche du vocabulaire qu'emploie Platon pour désigner l'équilibre tant physique que moral, il s'agit de dégager l'enjeu de la summetria, à savoir le respect d'une juste proportion d'une part entre les parties de l'âme d'un côté, entre les composants du corps de l'autre, et d'autre part entre l'âme et le corps. La mise en place de la juste mesure passe alors par un certain nombre de moyens (thérapie, gymnastique…) pour permettre l'influence de la morale sur le sensible. The notion of « right measure » is particularly important within the framework of the Timaeus. Based on the terminology Plato uses to designate physical and moral equilibrium, this article will try to show the importance of the notion of summetria, that is the maintenance of right proportion between the various parts of the soul, and between the parts of the body, and between the soul and body. The establishment of right measure makes use of a variety of means (for instance, therapy and gymnastics) in order to enable moral values to influence life in this world
