Western and Indian Feminism: A Comparative Study of Journey

Abstract

‘Feminism’ is a socio-political movement that generally aims to establish women's rights and equality. It is an intellectual commitment to providing the actual position of women. Feminism is a violence against the patriarchy system, slavery system etc.. This movement was widely spread during 18th century. It was started to establish equality and women's right in social and political sphere, and after, it extends its area towards economical, educational and scientifical spheres of society. As a result, this movement appear in three waves in the society. The impact of this feminism movement affected the Indian communities, which evidence can be found from the data of women's securing highest marks, involving in the business area and the development of the state. This attempt of women helps to demolish such superstitious believes like child marriage, burning widows, killing girl infants, and unliterarcy of girl child. It brings a revolution not in the western but also in Indian thought and activities. The influences of feminism brings a change in the Indian society. It destroys the barriers that was setted by the society. The activation of Indian females in the flim industries, fashion field and also in military field shows how feminism impact in the Indian thoughts. Hence the succession of feminism, as a movement, of women's rights can be consider by its practices in the society.
