Abstract

If it alights on the doorstep I hear a gentle clack! when its claws touch the metal. An accidental sound, which nevertheless serves to establish contact, and which over the years has become a sort of signal: I look up from my computer screen and see the tit looking at me. That is all it needs to do in order to address me.
