Abstract

Nicholas Rescher, University Professor of Philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree by the university of his native city of Hagen in Germany, the Fernuniversitaet, which has grown into Germany’s second largest institution of higher learning. With this award, made “in recognition of his contributions to philosophy and to philosophical collaboration between Germany and the USA,” Dr. Rescher has now received six honorary degrees from universities on three continents.
