This paper recalls a less known aspect of Hegelian philosophy of religion consisting in the radical critique of Christendom. Hegel criticized first of all Roman Catholic Church unlike Protestantism. Hegel underlined no biblical legitimization of church institution and therefore interpreted Christianity as a voluntary association but not as a mass institution. He also indicated negative implications of positive religion’s ethics. His views were characteristic for critical philosophy of religion developer since the 17th till the 19th century. Today Hegel’s views may (...) be relevant in debates on political secularization explaining genesis of important stream in Western Europe which questions meaning of authorities especially religious. Artykuł przedstawia studium konstrukcji konceptualizacji w instrukcyjnych dialogach zadaniowych (IDA). Celem studium jest opis różnych form odwzorowań znaczeń w IDA. Materiał badawczy pochodzi z korpusu nagrań komunikacji multimedialnej w polskich dialogach zadaniowych. Do modelowania multidmodalnych odwzorowań znaczeń zastosowano teorię stapiania pojęć. Analiza przykładów pokazuje jak Podający Instrukcje konceptualizuje przestrzenie mentalne i w jaki sposób przyczynia się do budowania przestrzeni mentalnych u Odbierającego Instrukcje. Zakończeniem artykułu jest propozycja multimodalnego modelu mentalnego aktu dialogowego.

W tekście rozważane są zagadnienie realności i związana z nim tematyka epistemologiczna w trzecim okresie filozofii Fryderyka Nietzschego. Analizując ten obszar filozofii Nietzschego, autor zwraca szczególną uwagę na problem życia. Opisuje go za pomocą metafory pnącej się wzwyż spirali. Metafora ta rozwijana jest przez autora w kontekście koncepcji „ekstatycznego tańca kratofanicznego” Zbigniewa Kaźmierczaka. Autor rozpoczyna rozważania od interpretacji stanowiska Nietzschego na temat trzech władz poznawczych: świadomości, rozumu i języka metafizycznego. Następnie stara się opisać wpływ, jaki — zdaniem filozofa — wywierają (...) one na powstanie koncepcji realności. Z tego powodu przechodzi do analizy struktury woli. W ostatniej części tekstu autor dokonuje analizy koncepcji realności, zestawiając wyniki badań z metaforą spirali. (shrink)

Celem artykułu jest przeanalizowanie, na przykładzie wyborów 2016 roku, roli, jaką w kampaniach prezydenckich w USA mogą odgrywać debaty. Debaty prezydenckie od czasu, gdy w 1960 roku zorganizowano pierwszą z nich, stały się spektaklami przyciągającymi przed telewizory dziesiątki milionów widzów. Występy kandydatów komentowane są w mediach na całym świecie, a komentatorzy prześcigają się w analizowaniu, kto wygrał debatę. Wydawałoby się więc, że biorąc pod uwagę całą tę otoczkę, znaczenie debat jest bardzo duże. Przykład z 2024 roku, kiedy po słabym występie (...) w debacie Joe Biden wycofał się z wyścigu, może tę konstatację potwierdzać. Jednak gdy analizuje się kampanię 2016 roku, można z kolei dostrzec, że debaty nie przełożyły się na zmianę poparcia. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest odpowiedź na pytanie, co sprawiło, że realne znaczenie debat w 2016 roku było niewielkie, pomimo że cieszyły się one ogromnym zainteresowaniem. W artykule autor rozważa, jak fenomen debat wpasowywał się w przeszłości w kampanie wyborcze, wpływając na sondaże i wynik wyborczy, a następnie przechodzi do analizy kampanii z 2016 roku, opisując jej kontekst, przebieg debat oraz ich odbiór społeczny. Następnie, opierając się na porównaniu realiów kampanii 2016 z kampaniami wcześniejszymi, wyciąga wnioski dotyczące tego, dlaczego w przypadku kampanii 2016 roku znaczenie debat było nieduże. Autor identyfikuje dwie grupy czynników, które mogły mieć na to wpływ – czynniki strukturalne związane z ewolucją amerykańskiego systemu politycznego oraz czynniki specyficzne dla kampanii 2016 roku, czyli głównie aspekty związane z samą osobą Donalda Trumpa oraz kontekstem kampanii. Wywód prowadzony w artykule oparty jest na analizie materiałów źródłowych, w tym głównie transkryptów z debat, analizie danych statystycznych dotyczących poparcia dla kandydatów oraz literaturze przedmiotu dotyczącej komunikacji politycznej, debat i amerykańskiego systemu wyborczego. Artykuł określa kategorie aspektu oraz wskazuje dwie odmiany stanowiska filozoficznego odnoszące się do tegoż pojęcia. Następnie przeprowadza ich krytykę w odniesieniu do współczesnej kognitywistyki.

This article is an attempt to answer the question about possible philosophical (non-mathematical) sources of antinomies revealed in mathematics at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Mathematical Platonism seems to be one of such sources. Is it possible, in Plato’s way of thinking, to really find the problem of the existence of objects, which in the context of the infinite set theory was mentioned by Georg Cantor? And if so, how does this problem solve Plato himself?

An ideal vision model accounts for behavior and neurophysiology in both naturalistic conditions and designed lab experiments. Unlike psychological theories, artificial neural networks (ANNs) actually perform visual tasks and generate testable predictions for arbitrary inputs. These advantages enable ANNs to engage the entire spectrum of the evidence. Failures of particular models drive progress in a vibrant ANN research program of human vision.

Hegel's philosophy of religion is typical for critical philosophy of Enlightenment. Hegel treats about religion as an earlier and less developed form of human mind. Religion is product of culture, society and mythological mind, which is connected with emotions and imagination.

Religious beliefs and religion are usually interpreted in terms of their social functionality and motivating social cooperation, as well as in terms of their alleged truthfulness. Here I suggest interpreting religious beliefs and religion with regard to their psychological function. I claim that their pro-social function is an accidental property, reducible to some mechanisms of tribal psychology, rather than a feature of religion itself. I emphasize that the epistemic function is not the main function of religious beliefs and religion. Investigators of animal behavior since the eighteenth century have sought to make their work integral to the enterprises of natural history and/or the life sciences. In their efforts to do so, they have frequently based their claims of authority on the advantages offered by the special places where they have conducted their research. The zoo, the laboratory, and the field have been major settings for animal behavior studies. The issue of the relative advantages of these different sites has been a (...) persistent one in the history of animal behavior studies up to and including the work of the ethologists of the twentieth century. Just as biologists have their favored places for doing research, so do historians. As someone who likes working in archives, the most surprising thing the present author ever found was a particular letter that had been written to him by the ethologist Niko Tinbergen—but that Tinbergen had never sent. The letter included a detailed critique of the intellectual style and conceptual shortcomings of Tinbergen’s career-long friend and colleague Konrad Lorenz. The present author first saw the letter 3 years after (...) Tinbergen’s death and 10 years after the letter was composed. Here we discuss the contents and historical context of that letter. (shrink)

The article presents Konrad Zacharias Lorenz\'s views concerning man\'s axiological space. According to Lorenz the origin of the cognitive apparatus is defined by the need to maintain orientation in the world. The apparatus is determined (ambiguously) by the biological and cultural factors. Also tendencies to accept a given type of values are dependent on inborn instincts. The harmony of mutual coexistence of biological and cultural norms is a manifestation of a \'healthy functioning of the world of values\'. In recognizing (...) values an important role is attributed to emotions. The specificity of the act of valuation results from its subjectivity outside a direct control of acts of consciousness. The article presents the conception of biological conditionings of language in Konrad Z. Lorenz\'s approach. In Lorenz\'s works the category of fulguration is the main philosophical category. It means the creation of \'something new\' as result of the process of a sequence of phenomena that are causally related. Viewing the human race from the historical perspective Lorenz differentiates two important fulgurations, called superfulgurations. One of them is the transition from the \"experiencing I\" to the \"conscious I\". Development of man\'s (...) mental sphere made it possible to form \"verbal speech\". More broadly, in Lorenz\'s approach, also culture has its subjectivization in nature. Cognition is an element of an organism\'s behavior, and what is more, every mechanism of learning evolved phylogenetically. However, this does not result in strict determinism - various cultures are developed independently of one another. In the process of development of culture a special role is played by symbolization. Lorenz differentiates two types of symbols: symbols of a group (e.g. emblem) and language symbols. Language symbols were created in the regularity formed in the process of phylogeny, that is in conceptual thinking. In his philosophical explanation of the language structure Lorenz uses the data supplied by particular sciences. Moreover, language behaviors of particular people are conditioned by their personal experiences, and by the definite social and cultural milieu they live in. (shrink)

This article explores book of poems entitled Requiem for Saddam Hussein and Other Poems for the Poor in Spirit by Konrad Góra in the light of animal studies. Looking at the poetic and beyond poetic activity of its author, this work reffers to Joanna Żylińska's question about ethical living founded on understandig of life both as zoe and bios. Think of the special opposition of village and city is trying to read this book in connection with mentioned vision of (...) life. These both areas shows presentifications and redefinings of persona in poems from Requiem and beyond poetic activity. By concentrating on poems specific for „nature” and „civilization this research will show how the mechanism of subordinating bare life (la nuda vita) works and how it concerns to both sides of the opposition of village and city. This article ask also for non-victims community, position and power of modern literature and involvment. (shrink)

Spanning pivotal years in the historic democratization of South Africa, this analysis provides a trenchant reflection of higher education in transition. Penned by one of South Africa’s foremost philosophers of education, the critique grapples with very real concerns in higher education policymaking and practice, including stakeholder politics, institutional cultures, and curriculum transformation and interrogation of the function of higher education institutions in modern societies. Exposing the tensions between egalitarian principles and the nature of higher knowledge, the essays raise questions to (...) which there are no simple answers. With characteristic rigor, the analysis looks into the assumptions underlying much of the thinking about these questions and concludes that a failure to sharpen thinking around higher education is a failure to recognize the epistemic value of academic practice in a developing democracy.
