This study aims to explore librarians’ motivating styles in virtual information literacy instruction sessions based on participating students’ perception. The research method use a quantitative approach, involving a survey method was applied for this study. The survey was conducted involving a sample of 250 students who had attended the virtual information literacy sessions at the selected library. The questionnaire was distributed electronically using Google Form and it comprised of open-ended questions to provide responses regarding the motivation provided by librarians in (...) virtual literacy instruction. The study identified three stages of the virtual information literacy instructions in which librarians applied different motivational styles. The three learning processes: Greeting and Welcome, Core, and Wrap up, each provided evidence of motivating styles. The findings of this investigation are useful to practicing librarians as they can focus on motivating students during the virtual information literacy instruction. (shrink)

Integrating local wisdom into the English learning process is essential to preserve cultural identity and promote a more meaningful and relevant learning experience for students. This study aimed to explore students' perceptions on the importance of integrating local wisdom of the Malay community in English language learning. A qualitative approach was applied, which involved a survey of 27. The results showed that most students believe that the integration of local wisdom of the Malay community in English language learning is important. (...) They recognized the potential benefits, including increased cultural understanding, better language learning motivation, and development of 21st century skills. However, the students also identified some challenges, such as the limited availability of learning resources that integrate the local wisdom of the Malay community and the need for better teacher training in this area. The findings of this study indicated that students were generally open to the integration of Malay local wisdom in English language learning, but there needs to be a more systematic and comprehensive effort to address the identified challenges. Internet memes, as artifacts of digital culture, quickly spread political ideas and critiques, transcending traditional media. Despite their prevalence, understanding how memes use semiotic elements and (de)legitimization strategies to shape political narratives on social media is limited. This research investigates how semiotic representations and (de)legitimization processes materialize in political discourse through social media memes. Using Van Leeuwen's (2005, 2007) framework of social semiotics and (de)legitimization strategies, we analyzed the visual and textual elements of 47 memes collected from January to July (...) 2024; we selected 11 memes that represent Van Leeuwen's (de)legitimization strategies. The study revealed that memes convey complex political messages using semiotic resources, including color, gesture, and text. Intertextuality, humor, irony, rationalization, and moral evaluation are commonly used to criticize or support political figures and ideologies. This highlights the dynamic role of social media in political communication, where memes rapidly influence public perception. The findings emphasize the importance of understanding semiotic and rhetorical strategies in political communication analysis. The study contributes to the discourse of digital political communication by showing how memes, as cultural artifacts, shape political narratives and legitimacy. The research has significant implications for political strategists, communicators, and academics interested in the intersection of media, politics, and culture. (shrink)

Early childhood stunting is a significant global health issue with profound implications for children's physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development. While factors like nutrition, environment, and genetics have been extensively studied, the role of gut microbiota diversity in the mechanisms underlying stunting remains not well understood. This multi-center longitudinal study aimed to evaluate the relationship between gut microbiota diversity and the incidence of stunting in early childhood. The analysis of stool samples revealed that stunted children exhibited lower gut microbiota diversity compared (...) to their non-stunted counterparts. Longitudinal growth tracking further demonstrated that children with higher initial gut microbiota diversity experienced more favorable growth trajectories. The study also found that gut microbiota diversity remained an independent predictor of stunting, even after accounting for socioeconomic, dietary, and environmental factors. These findings suggest that strategies to enhance gut microbiota diversity, such as probiotics or prebiotics, could be integrated into existing nutritional programs to combat stunting. The study's implications highlight the need for holistic approaches that consider the complex interplay between gut health and early childhood development. (shrink)

This article aims to look at adult learning models (andragogy), which are innovative learning models that can be applied to adult learning. The meta-analysis in this study used PRISMA. There were 56 articles analyzed from 2020 to 2022 published in international conferences and journals. The articles were collected using Publish and Perish application. The findings show that the learning model using the androgogical model is most widely used. Then the research model that is widely used is the development research model.

Despite ongoing social progress, criminal acts remain unpredictable, and the rise in various offenses has heightened public concern. Criminality forms a cyclical challenge to legal norms, often creating a sense of permanence. Criminal law must adapt as societies evolve, necessitating continuous legal reform and contextual alignment. Sexual violence, particularly prevalent in Indonesia, profoundly impacts families, communities, workplaces, and educational institutions. A high incidence of Online-Based Sexual Violence (OBSV), harassment, and rape disproportionately affects women. The legal ambiguity surrounding the interpretation of (...) “power relations” and the concept of grooming in sexual violence cases leads to an unclear legal framework, diminishing justice for victims. This study employs a conceptual approach and hermeneutic analysis to clarify these terms, aiming to enhance understanding of how gender inequality and social constructs shape interpretations of power dynamics and grooming in physical sexual harassment cases. By addressing these complexities, the study seeks to advance authentic comprehension of the power imbalances at play in sexual violence incidents. (shrink)

This article explores the (contested) concept of political representation in Urdu during the colonial period to address “deceptive familiarities” and highlight multilingual and transnational influences on contemporary Indian Muslim claims. Drawing on official documents, letters, speeches, and newspapers from the late 1850s to 1919, it argues that the “politics of presence”—or descriptive representation—of “Old Party” leaders stemmed from their aristocratic concept of representation as trusteeship (wakālat). Despite changes in terminology, the concept was only challenged in the 1910s by the “Young (...) Party” and by the embracing of democratic values. Conceptual change was then materialized by the appropriation of the Persian numā’indagī in Urdu—a term that might have consecutively accredited descriptive claims and the use of religious symbols in election campaigns. Buku ini dikarang untuk pembaca “awam” (seperti saya) oleh dua ilmuwan yang masing-masing sudah memiliki nama tersendiri karena banyak publikasi: Brian Thomas Swimme, seorang profesor kosmologi evolusioner di San Francisco, dan Mary Evelyn Tucker, seorang lektor dalam bidang studi lingkungan hidup di Yale, New Haven. Diilhami oleh mentor dan sahabat mereka, almarhum geolog dan teolog Thomas Berry, mereka bersama-sama menyusun suatu “kisah (epos) tentang munculnya alam semesta dan berkembangnya komunitas hidup, dengan menawarkan suatu visi baru tentang cara kita dapat menumbuhkan (...) semangat komunitas bumi.” (cover). Bab 1-4 mengisahkan kurang lebih sembilan milyar tahun perkembangan alam semesta, mulai dari Big Bang, eksplosi terang dan materi yang senantiasa meluas dan melalui suatu proses kreatif menggembleng materi yang kemudian akan menjadi miliaran galaksi. Dengan bahasa yang umumnya non-teknis, dan sangat indah, disertai dengan kepekaan terhadap tradisi-tradisi bangsa-bangsa manusia yang bermenung tentang alam raya, para pengarang berhasil menampilkan deretan kejadian yang dahsyat dan jauh itu menjadi suatu proses yang terasa menyangkut kita juga. Fokus mereka pada proses pembentukan bintang-bintang serta eksplosi-eksplosi bintang yang, baru sesudah 8-9 miliar tahun, memunculkan solar system kita, yakni matahari dengan planet-planet di sekitarnya, khususnya bumi kita yang mengalami suatu proses penyejukan dan pemadatan yang unik. Dalam proses jutaan tahun terbentuk atmosfir di sekitar bumi dan lautan-lautan yang menutupi sebagian besar permukaannya. Dengan energi yang berasal dari terang matahari dari jarak yang menguntungkan, dipersiapkan pentas untuk suatu tahap baru yang menakjubkan: munculnya hidup di bumi..................... Dalam bab 10-11 para pengarang mencari jalan keluar dari ketidak-seimbangan destruktif yang telah terjadi di bumi. Mereka mempermasalahkan pemikiran materialistis deterministis yang sejak Galileo, Newton, Descartes, dan lain-lainnya, menyerahkan materi yang dianggap mati begitu saja kepada kontrol manusia yang berakal budi. Apakah materi memang sepasif seperti dipikirkan filsafat itu? Kita sekarang dapat melihat dari miliaran tahun pembentukan alam semesta bagaimana di dalam materi pun ada dinamika mengatur diri (self organizing) dengan cara-cara yang tidak dapat diprediksi. Di tengah proses besar yang penuh kreativitas ini umat manusia ditantang mencari tempat dan perannya ke depan. Seperti bintang-bintang dan lautan-lautan telah memberi sumbangan tersendiri untuk jagat raya dan bumi, demikian juga miliaran manusia—sebagai garis depan evolusi sekarang—akan dapat membantu membuka jalan bagi sesuatu yang kini belum dapat diduga, asalkan manusia mau melepaskan genggaman kontrolnya atas yang lain dan dengan sikap kekaguman mau menjadi bagian dari komunitas bumi dan menyelaraskan diri dengan iramanya Ini cuma beberapa benang dari sebuah buku yang sangat kaya, inspiratif, dan mampu mengubah pandangan pembaca. Menurut hemat saya, buku ini juga secara mendalam bersifat religius, kendati tidak meminjam bahasa agama apapun. Kalau belum ada teerjemahannya dalam bahasa Indonesia, hendaknya diadakan terjemahan tersebut, dan bila mungkin dengan tetap menjaga keindahan bahasanya.
