De manière générale, la formation de mots implique les opérations de dérivation et de composition auxquelles s'attachent les marques de flexion. En pulaar, la flexion, liée à l'affixation des marqueurs de classe et la dérivation, obtenue par conversion ou par suffixation d'un morphème, aboutissent à la formation d'unités monolexématiques, alors que la composition construit des unités polylexématiques.

L’atlas linguistique finnois de Lauri Kettunen (1940), accessible en ligne, a été initialement conçu par son auteur en fonction de variables de phonologie diachronique. Cependant, en raison de l’intrication de la phonologie dans la morphologie flexionnelle nominale et verbale du finnois, ces données se prêtent aisément à une lecture en termes de taxinomie morphologique. Le finnois apparaît alors comme bien moins « agglutinant » sur le plan typologique, et bien plus inférentiel, ou de type fusionnel. Nous appliquons le (...) modèle PFM (Paradigm Function Morphology) dans cette perspective, en proposant une modélisation diasystémique des classes flexionnelles du finnois. L’approche diachronique de Kettunen, fondée sur des étymons et des schèmes concaténatifs « agglutinants » invite par ailleurs à remonter plus haut dans l’histoire de la langue. On voit alors, comme d’un système somme toute simple de bipartition entre radicaux thématiques et athématiques, de disyllabes et d’imparisyllabiques, le diasystème finnois a évolué vers une complexification croissante, tout en préservant les structures fondamentales héritées. Depuis la fin des années 1970, le programme NALC-BDLC collecte des données dialectales auprès de locuteurs natifs dans l’ensemble de la Corse et dans le nord de la Sardaigne. Les enquêtes ethnolinguistiques de terrain sont menées sous la forme d’entretiens semi-dirigés avec l’aide de questionnaires thématiques. Cette entreprise au long cours a permis de rassembler un matériel linguistique riche, mais a parallèlement connu diverses évolutions – méthodologiques et technologiques – rendant la version actuelle partielle. Avant de décrire l’analyse menée pour (...) combler ces déficits, les possibilités offertes aujourd’hui sont exposées et mises en perspectives par rapport à celles de la version historique. Notre démarche dépasse cependant la « simple restauration » du système et s’envisage en deux directions : d’une part la mise en œuvre d’un projet de recherches qui renforcera les dimensions morphologie et syntaxe de la base, d’autre part l’application des techniques du Traitement Automatique du Langage (TAL) pour le développement du programme. Ernst Cassirer’s (1874–1945) lecture ≫Structuralism in Modern Linguistics≪, given in 1945, not only represents a kind of late return to his intellectual origins in thetradition of Leibniz, Kant and Humboldt. It also provides a diagnosis of the importance of linguistics in his time. This diagnosis should prove far-sighted from the vantage point of both the history and philosophy of science. The thesis presented in this article is that for Cassirer, modern linguistics represents a scientific paradigm that encompasses various fields in (...) academia and even transcends the divide between the humanities and the sciences, i. e. Geisteswissenschaften and Naturwissenschaften. In order to verify this thesis, the present essay analyzes Cassirer’s lecture and places him in a dialogue with the most important addressee of Cassirer’s: the linguist Roman Jakobson (1896–1982), who lived in New York at the same time as Cassirer. The comparison of Ernst Cassirer’s philosophy of symbolic forms and Levi-Strauss’ structural anthropology requires a clarification of their definitions of morphology, transformation and translatability. We will expose the morphological field where Cassirer’s aesthetics emerges in relation to Goethe, who represents an important source for Levi-Strauss as well. Defining the concept of transformation is supposed to follow his modifications of the key ideas of the German poet and biologist, by taking account of the new point of view provided by the theory (...) of groups of transformation which the mathematician Felix Klein developed in the »circle of Erlangen «. Then we will show how Edgar Wind, a brilliant student of Cassirer, invents a kind of morphological aesthetics to provide art history with a methodology, and we will give some examples for the application of the concept of building series of pictures in the field of art history. We will examine the global function of the tables of Aby Warburg’s Atlas Mnemosyne, Erwin Panofsky’s wellknown iconological interpretation of Durer’s Melencolia I and then, by contrast, the creation of a virtual series of masks through an imaginative variation which Levi-Strauss creates to give sense to a particular Ameridian mask found during his investigations. Finally, we will investigate the problems appearing by the definition of transformation as translatability in both Cassirer’s and Levi-Strauss’ semiologies. We will ask for their uses of the model of translation in linguistics to compare different forms of structural homologies. (shrink)

Forscher aus Philosophie, Kulturwissenschaften, Wissenschaftsgeschichte, Ästhetik, Literatur, Anthropologie, Mathematik und Biologie untersuchen aus historischer und theoretischer Perspektive den Zusammenhang zwischen der Aktivität des Denkens und den Konzepten von Bild und Form.

Though the relationship between Goethe, Cassirer and Levi-Strauss has been explored extensively, the focus usually lies on questions of genealogy. This article aims for a different course: Building on the notable similarities between Goethe’s discussion of morphology, Levi-Strauss’ structuralistic approach and Cassirer’s philosophy of symbolic forms we will investigate the epistemological similarities between the three authors. They can be found in a specific form of humanism (or anti-humanism) which connects questions on the conditions of the world and its accessibility with (...) the more global question of humankind and its place within the natural world, thus, by virtue of a specific interpretation of the concept of transformation, opening the door for new approaches which have recently been discussed as ontological turn. Although Goethe s Morphology drew little notice from natural scientists, his way of conceptualizing the innumerable forms that occur in nature as organic variations of a few basic archetypes was received with immediate interest by scholars in the humanities. This volume compiles studies on Droysen, Dilthey, Simmel, and Wittgenstein, who relied on Goethe s Morphology trying to master a modern age experienced as increasingly confusing.".

Certain problems about the autonomic nervous system — as f.i. those about the development of ortho- and parasympathetic system — have to be seen in the light of synthetic morphologic-functional considerations. As for the origin of the vegetative nervous elements, the phylogenetic dates show, how the theory of ectodermal descent is one-sided from functional synthetic point of view. Every intercellular function has her place. Therefore the principle of “holosynaptic toponomy” conditions the possibilities of morphological development of every tissue conducting stimuli. (...) In the case of the autonomic system this principle stresses the meaning of the importance of the mesoderm as a base of differentiation to certain nervous elements. Histological, comparative anatomical facts as well as the theory of neurobiotaxis are shown to be very well in harmony with the developed conception. (shrink)

L’article présente les premiers résultats de l’analyse de la plus récente version des n-grammes de Google italiens et français (GN, 2020), dans le cadre d’un projet qui vise à construire, à partir des données brutes, un ensemble de dictionnaires électroniques disponibles en libre accès qui faciliteraient l’utilisation des GN pour la recherche diachronique en morphologie lexicale. L’analyse de dizaines de millions de n-grammes révèle que les GN italiens et français contiennent respectivement 2,7 et 3,7 millions de formes de mots (...) uniques avec l’information sur leur fréquence dans les livres publiés, en fonction de l’année de publication du livre correspondant sur une période d’environ 500 ans.
