The unthought means that which it is possible to think, but which has not yet been thought, and also what we are prevented from thinking. Philosophical systems can prevent us from thinking otherwise and restrictions on women’s access to knowledge can prevent women from thinking apart from what is prescribed as suitable. The unthought is both what hasn’t been thought and what could be thought if there wasn’t a barrier of some sort. Michèle Le Dœuff directs us towards the unthought (...) as a measure of the extent to which writers on women’s education have allowed the possibility of women’s access to the unthought, not just to received knowledge to date. This unthought is also connected to creativity and originality, and philosophy that is not systematic. In this paper, I elucidate the nature of Michèle Le Dœuff’s project and the structure of her argument in The Sex of Knowing (2003) through the idea of the unthought. (shrink)

There are few problems to which legal philosophers have devoted more attention than the relationship between morality and law, or, said in different terms, between the “good” and the “obligatory”. One might think that all that should and could be said about it has already been uttered or written. Nevertheless philosophy — and legal philosophy is no exception — is just this: rethinking old problems which are in fact always new,1 and for which no definitive solution is given — nor (...) is possible, I would add — and which need a permanent effort of reassessment. At the outset of _Marx for Cats_, Leigh Claire La Berge declares that “all history is the history of cat struggle.” Revising the medieval bestiary form to meet Marxist critique, La Berge follows feline footprints through Western economic history to reveal an animality at the heart of Marxism. She draws on a twelve-hundred-year arc spanning capitalism’s feudal prehistory, its colonialist and imperialist ages, the bourgeois revolutions that supported capitalism, and the communist revolutions that opposed it to outline how cats have (...) long been understood as creatures of economic critique and liberatory possibility. By attending to the repeated archival appearance of lions, tigers, wildcats, and “sabo-tabbies,” La Berge argues that felines are central to how Marxists have imagined the economy, and by asking what humans and animals owe each other in a moment of ecological crisis, La Berge joins current debates about the need for and possibility of eco-socialism. In this playful and generously illustrated radical bestiary, La Berge demonstrates that class struggle is ultimately an interspecies collaboration. (shrink)

Le cerveau en feu de M Descartes revisite ces rêves, où le jeune philosophe entrevoit le fondement matriciel qui relie tous les êtres, et propose un quatrième songe dont il ne serait pas revenu. Nous avons voulu comprendre comment, à l'issue de cette nuit, Descartes entreprend de fonder le cogito (...) contre tous les vertiges entrevus. Un délire philosophique a décidé du destin de l'Occident, a provoqué un durcissement de la raison. Aujourd'hui, alors que la raison de la technologie et de la finance est remise en cause, que nous remettons en doute la Raison des raisons, il importe de revisiter cette vision fondamentale et d'établir un dialogue avec l'écologie intuitive des cultures autochtones : c'est le cinquième songe. ¿Qué es lo que salta a la vista en el objeto fotográfico? ¿Cuál es ese fondo sin fondo que constituye toda superficie fotográfica y que nos interpela, nos enfrenta y sobre la cual se sigue el desconcierto? Este artículo ensaya una perspectiva posthumana de acercamiento a un conjunto de artefactualidades fotográficas que desafían los órdenes de un constructivismo cultural imperante como paradigma de interpretación de dichos objetos y traza ciertos caracteres de una aproximación más allá de lo humano al medio (...) fotográfico. En función de esto se aventurará un itinerario de vinculación con estos objetos técnicos desde la noción derridiana del subjectil como el lugar de nacencia de toda fotografía, su materialidad como horizonte y facticidad desde la cual toda fotografía se expresa. Trazar este recorrido implicará describir las intensidades de ciertos soportes fotográficos, la huida de la fotografía de un antropismo consustancial, de su condición de imagen cultural y visual para, finalmente, delinear los alcances de una materialidad fotográfica en los términos propuestos por la inflexión posthumana contemporánea. Het besef onderdeel te zijn van een ontwikkelde, beschaafde en commerciële periode schiep een nieuwe verhouding tot het verleden. Veel geschiedschrijvers schreven een historisch verhaal van vooruitgang - van de klassieke oudheid via de barbaarse middeleeuwen naar het moderne Europese statensysteem - om deze verlichte eeuw te verklaren. Hoewel dit fungeerde als een gedeeld Europees verleden en gedeelde Europese identiteit, ontstonden er al gauw nationale (...) varianten. Eleá de la Porte onderzoekt de achttiende-eeuwse Nederlandse verlichte verhalen vanuit dit internationale perspectief. In de Republiek botste het verhaal van Europese vooruitgang op een gelijktijdig debat over nationaal verval en een sterke traditie van humanistische geschiedschrijving. Bovendien moesten Nederlandse schrijvers hun nationale identiteit heroverwegen. De Bataafse mythe, gedurende twee eeuwen de historische fundering van de nationale identiteit, werd steeds vaker beschouwd als 'barbaars.' A escolha teórica foi por Cossutta, que aponta para uma cena filosófica e para um núcleo definicional de conceitos como elementos que fazem um texto ser filosófico, mantendo uma unidade mínima coerente de sentido que expressa o estilo do filósofo que se quer estudar. O artigo apresenta recortes operados pelo autor em sua experiência didática.

A summary is presented of the subquantum kinetics ether methodology, a type of unified field theory that successfully predicts a large number of physical phenomena. This utilizes a new approach to theory development that emphasizes the use of system theory and places theory development as primary and observation as secondary.
