Assessment of Energy Efficiency Level on UiTMPP’s Dewan Besar Building

Abstract

The Malaysian Ministry of Education and The Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education have urged staffs and students to save energy in education’s building. In line with the government’s initiative to reduce energy usage in government buildings, this study will focus on energy efficiency level at Dewan Besar, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Pulau Pinang. This study presents energy efficiency level and provides the solution to reduce electricity cost at UiTMPP’s Dewan Besar. Building energy index is a tool to calculate the energy performance of a building. Gross floor area and power usage at UiTMPP’s Dewan Besar are required to calculate BEI. This will be compared with Malaysia Standard MS1525 requirement that it should be below than 220 kWh/m2/year. The BEI of UiTMPP’s Dewan Besar is 156.2 kWh/m2/year. Several suggestions have been given in reducing electricity cost. It estimated that it reduces 5% electricity at UiTMPP’s Dewan Besar.
