Abstract

The paper uses a clue taken from the work of Ingenieros to construe his own thoughts: there exists a clear tendency in these texts to “erase”, from the historical experience, the political meaning of certain social chances. Two complementary aspects make this erasure possible: the tendency to adopt explanations closely related to a naturalistic social reductionism; the unacknowledged utopian nature of these explanations, that is, the adoption of an ideal of civilization that focuses on work and culture, and which would be possible through the first point. KEYWORDS: Medical-legal Approach, Positivism, Social Engineering
