Lao Zi's View of Consumerism
Abstract
This paper studies the philosophy of Lao Tzu of China's environmental significance: "Contentment", "to luxury" and "not perilous weeks OK 'and other perspectives have to reduce production, consumption, consumption of resources in the content; but I's just a return to nature good intentions, is the reaction progress of human civilization. Combined with contemporary and complex social phenomenon, this article discusses how to use the new achievements of science and technology, I learned the essence of consumer attitudes, excluding its feudal dross, so that consumers become a driving force for environmental protection. This article investigates Lao Zi's environmental philosophy. Some notions in Lao Zi's philosophy, such as "contentment" , "frugality" and "zhou xing er bu tai" carry the connotation of reducing production and preserving resources. It seems, however, that Lao Zi's notion of a "return to nature" stems merely from optimism. It, in fact, goes contrary to the advancement of human civilization. This paper attempts to examine how to fuse the advancements of today's technology with the wisdom of Lao Zi's inherent environmental conservatism. It tries to strip the Lao Zi of its feudal tendencies and use it as an impetus for today's environmental protection movement
