Abstract

ABSTRACTAmong the various paths to be avoided when attempting to comparatively evaluate the legacy of one's own culture are those, Lloyd argues, which would lead to anachronisms, permanent suspension of judgment, dichotomies as well as to theories of realism or of relativism. A further analysis of such procedures to be avoided show, I argue, that similar objections have been raised by Popper in his epistemological theory of conjectures and refutations. Following my analysis of both approaches I underline the apparent differences in their respective use of temporality.
