Abstract

In dealing with the problem of the interrelations between mathematical logic and formal logic, we must first of all make clear just what mathematical logic is. In our opinion, the concept "mathematical logic" is employed in two different senses in mathematical and logical literature. A successful approach to our problem necessitates a clear differentiation between these two senses. Therefore we shall speak hereafter not of mathematical logic in general, but of mathematical logic in the narrow meaning and in the broad meaning of the term
