Abstract

This volume "is designed primarily as an exposition of Sellars’s philosophy, and criticism has been kept to a minimum so that an initial understanding of his overall view might be achieved." Given this limited objective, The Synoptic Vision is a success. Sellars’s views on epistemology, ontology, philosophy of science, philosophy of mind, and ethics are put forward chapter by chapter in a way that is accessible to philosophers who have not labored long and hard over Sellars’s work. The volume has Sellars’s approval and endorsement; it is a reasonably faithful and sympathetic presentation of his views. It offers a complete list of his published work and a long list of books, articles, and dissertations about his work.
